/pay attention to which words are in italics and which are bolded!/

Gasping breath, falling falling falling to a false death
Heart beating, mind racing, snatched from a dream's fleeting
embrace - embrace the warmth beside him, cling to her like she couldn't cling to him
Worried voices, faces blurring together until one, haunting choices
Past love and present lover, the one who broke him and the one he hoped wouldn't discover
his shattered mind, his fragile heart, eyes with tears that blind
He missed her, he loved her, guilt eating him when they blur
He cried, and she kissed away his tears, always gentle beside
Looking into her eyes, it felt right, and once again he could make it to the sunrise
He missed her, but he loved her and she loved him

not long enough

The entire stable woke gently just before the break of dawn, each horse nosed out of their slumber by the timid new foal, Dove. Too groggy to question the mare, they gathered in the biggest paddock on the estate. Finally, Jay, the foal's mother, spoke up to ask the question they'd all been wondering.

"Darling, why have you brought us out here? And so early?" The roosters hadn't even woken yet, the chilly air sleepily silent.

"E-eggs." She murmured, kneeling her spindly legs next to a dip in the ground. Upon close inspection, the indent was revealed to be a nest, with a sleeping hen and three eggs tucked gently into the grass. Peeping could be heard from under the hen's feathers, and Dove pressed her velvet nose to the bird's side.

The hen woke with a start, confused as to why so many horses had been gathered around her, but her attention was quickly taken by the cracking of another egg hatching. She stood, turning to watch as the remaining eggs popped open and out tumbled little yellow chicks.

A round of 'awws' and coos swept through the few horses that had stayed to watch, and Dove nickered softly at her new friends.
