An Angel's Charms
Word Count: 801 | Point Total: 28

The storm was fast rising overhead, a crack of thunder striking somewhere in the distance. it did nothing to put off these two stallions and while the mares and foals had removed to the safety of the shelter Hunter had something different on his mind. Why should he waste his time indoors when there was a perfectly good storm brewing? The owner of the ranch watched the stallion from the end of the fence, even he knew what the large, boisterous stallion was thinking. He wanted out. It was like magic before the mans wise eyes; While he thought he knew of all the tricks that a horse would pull he had never seen one so quickly performed. A flash of thunder striked down closer, naturally his eyes glancing to ensure all the others were infact inside. When he looked back for the stallion though... He was gone without a trace. No broken fence, no moving body, Gone.
Hunter had done it and he knew it, shaking his mane out proudly he ran to the beat that the weather was creating, the mountain area being his main aim as he galloped up hill and across the nearest field. It was only when around halfway up that he chose to stop for a break. While many horses preferred the company of others Hunter didn't, not all the time anyway. He liked the power and knowing he had the ability to do as he pleased, he disliked to be controlled and once he had his freedom he would do anything to keep ahold of it.
Danny and Carlo's were sleeping in the hayloft of the barn as usual, always doing so to ensure no one ever tried to break in during the night to steal or harm the horses whenever the boss, Trigen's voice was heard, "Boys! He's out again, get up!" The man yelled up , both other men looking over the edge, "Which him?" They said together, all three rolling their eyes. It was true that the tolters of Tilting ranch had quite the habit of escaping, many learnt tricks which they taught to the others which then seemed to run in the bloodlines. "Hunter is gone, he can't have gotten far." Of course, Trigen had no idea how far he would be, or what direction he had taken off in. Everytime the stallion had escaped he had taken off in another direction, it didn't help that many trail rides had been set out on the paths around Tilting Tolter Ranch in order to enable visitors to explore the landscape without having to worry about becoming lost.
------------------------------------
The sun was rising over the hills before the men came down to their last resource; Angel. The mare and stallion had a past of trail rides together and over the time had became closer, and even now as they unleashed her -since she was much more trustworthy and had yet to try and run away from anyone- It only took a matter of sitting around and waiting until the stallion came out from where he had been hiding, his ears flickering cautiously as the two moved to be standing side by side. Slowly, so slowly that not so much as a twig snapped Carl nudged the ever silently moving Nature's Radio on through the trees, the mare watching both unleashed horses with a predatory look to her eyes. Hunter's gaze locked onto theres, but the second the stallion tried to bolt Angel's mouth closed on his hair had enough to yank a bit out as she whinnied in an annoyed way at the stallion having just left her so abruptly again, Danny bursting from the trees on Chao's who, like the wild horse he was, ran with large uneven strides but none the less brought Danny close enough that he could practically slide the rope over Hunter's neck since it wasn't worth the risk of unbalancing the stallion if he had have thrown it; Not to mention he wasn't exactly a rodeo kind of worker. Trigen only chuckled at Angel when the pretty, usually affectionate mare moved to nip at Hunter's side only to trot to stand at the otherside of Chao's with a snort as if to confirm that she wasn't over being abandoned quite so easily, the mare even seeming rather happy that the boosted stallion had just been captured, "Lets get this lot home before any more incidents occur, Afterall, the ladies will be on our backs for trying to skip work." Trigen said, smiling fondly at the idea of the little family they had running back at the ranch. If anything it was a shared ownership between many, while he was the boss, he tried to treat everyone fairly, never letting anyone fall behind or be left out too much.

The Bonfire Night

Postby Freedom! » Thu May 14, 2015 8:42 am

The Bonfire Night
Word Count: 1014 | Point Total: 40
Includes; Travellers Curse and Rider, Danny.

Danny glanced around the corner of the stable door to ensure Trigen wasn't awaiting outside, of course with it being the party season many others had already taken it off, but with all the horses tended to what was the problem in Danny going off to have some fun? Waiting until the coast was clear the boy cautiously led Traveller's Curse from the barn, the horse throwing his head around proudly, making all the noise he could to ensure everyone knew they were going somewhere. Great. "Come on boy, your going to get us caught." Danny whispered, throwing himself up onto the stallions bareback. He thought he was away without being seen until he heard Trigen's voice ringing out above the usual noises around the place, "Where do you think your goi-" The man was cut off as Curse took the hint, the horse taking off in an action which had Danny almost unseated, "Well then, glad we're finally on the same boat." A glance over his shoulder had him laughing at Trigen left in the dust, not looking amused at all but at the same time walking calmly towards the stables.

It was the eleventh of July, a night of celebration before the parades of the twelfth, and it was definitely something which had Danny excited for more than the clear reasons. It was his first year he was chosen to not march, but ride in the parade, and for natural reasons he had chosen one of his favourites Curse to do it with. Him and the stallion had formed an extraordinary bond in the time since his birth, while many may have enjoyed the tolters of tilting tolter ranch for their loud appaloosa markings or their beautiful eyes Danny had found Curse far better company. Afterall, with the others a few too many apples or sneaky carrots from guests had let them to think they were rather more like royals. Curse on the other hand had the qualities which a real horse should have, he is quirky, enjoyable company, and had never let Danny down when he needed him. He loved trail rides and ever since he was young had enjoyed to be in the water, a perfect companion for Danny who also loved a dip in the stream or a swim through the ocean.

When they arrived just intime for the bonfire being lit the celebrations were already well underway, people who may have never knew each other before talked and sang together, working as a team to get the bonfire lit. The pallets lit slowly, the excess furniture hidden inside putting a burning smell into the air. Rather than spook the few horses around even they seemed to enjoy the freedom, not one wore a saddle as they grazed a safe distance from the rising flames. The snort which Curse give made Danny jump down off of his back, leaving the reins over him and giving his rump a gentle pat as a sign he was free to go. Of course, the young stallion didn't need told twice before he was running down the hill with the speed of a racehorse, giving the rising bonfire a large circle but he wasn't aiming for the other horses, no. Curse ran a clean circle around the bonfire, rising onto his hind legs in a semi rear once done. Children who were watching him made a move to get closer to which the stallion was happy to stand by and receive the attention.

The night went in quickly, it seemed that one minute the bonfire had only been lit and the next it was crumpling into a barely there pile. It was only when more people were beginning to walk away did Danny decide to go as well, it had been a good night and as ever, one to remember. With new friends for both the boy and the stallion he began walking towards Curse who trotted to meet him halfway, Danny rubbing behind his ears, "Good boy Curse, better get back before Trigen shows up." He murmured, hopping back onto his back. Rather than rush home though Danny purposefully took the long way, slowly moving around the back fields and probably only teaching Curse bad habits by showing him the small gaps or lowered parts in other farmers fences.

Arriving back at tilting tolter ranch Danny dismounted to lead Curse more quietly back towards the stables, creeping around the corner and putting him in his stall. He hadn't even got it shut before a hand came down on his shoulder, Danny wincing a little at knowing exactly who it was as he turned his head slowly to see Trigen, "Hey Trigen, Beautiful night for a ride, yeah?" The slightly older man only raised an eyebrow, "Sleep. Four hours and I expect you up and cleaning these stalls again, if you want to make it to the parade tomorrow, I advise you start now." Danny watched as he went away before rolling his eyes, "Yeah right, we won't be missing that parade for anything boy, I can promise you that." Curse whinnied lowly as if in agreement. A few of the other horses peeked their heads out to see what was happening as Danny made his way up the steps into the hayloft, moving through the stacks to get to where he called home in the back. After an exciting day and an even better night he flopped down on the hay made bed, falling asleep practically as soon as his head hit the pillow. A final call out from Traveller's Curse as if to say goodnight which let to others such as Casino Roar who just had to get the last noise in of the night answering back, the usual barn sounds floating upwards from the cats rustling in the hay to the dogs scratching at their collars, all caused because of Curse wakening them. The thought of it brought a smile to the mans lips, "I love that horse." He mumbled to himself, cuddling further under the old knitted blanket comfortably.

The Official Meeting

Postby Freedom! » Sun May 17, 2015 2:41 pm

The Official Meeting
Word Count: 1508 | Point Total: 60
Includes; Halo's Last Spin, Hakuna Matata, Street Boy
Guests; Shadow Lurker, Skater Boi, Training Wheels

Trigen led the two colts, Halo and Hakuna in large circles, anytime either tried to pull ahead stopping, remaining dead still until they both were standing as peacefully as they ever would at his sides. Watching as the large horse trailer began to pull up the man reached out to rub a hand down Halo's neck in praise, repeating the action to Hakuna. Already he knew who it was, with expecting a visit from Woof Neigh stables both of the owners had arranged to meet and let their horses spend more time together, purely for the fun of it, and helping them get better prepared. By doing this, it was enabling them to become more used to the travelling first by boat -since Woof Neigh was based in England and Tilting Tolter Ranch was based in Northern Ireland- then for the car journey. This was a trial run, and for it, Michelle who is the owner and head trainer of Woof Neigh had chosen to come and visit them.

After having left Halo and Hakuna in the decent sized field for the time being until he had helped Michelle get sorted he began to make his way down towards the car park, just in time for her getting out and coming around the back of the trailer. "Have a nice journey?" Trigen asked, although he had never been the overly social kind. He preferred his own company and at times, found it difficult to strike up a conversation, especially since he was so used to only speaking over the phone with Michelle to start with. "Great! Although I must say, I think the horses will be happy to get out of there." The women admitted while undoing the latches, bringing the ramp down. Trigen waited at the bottom until she had settled the still young horses. Only when he was handed a leadrope with a beautiful, buckskin appaloosa on the end did Trigen crack a small smile, leading the colt on outwards into the sunlight to look him over better, admiring the black, chimera marking on his face. "He has grown beautifully, I am sure Chao's and Radio will love to see their son again." Stroking a hand down the colts back Trigen ran his hands onwards down his legs, searching for any signs of injury from the journey and thankful enough when he found none. At straightening to his full height again his gaze found the two others Michelle was now holding, "Two chimeras?" Trigen questioned, seemingly a little surprised by this. Michelle only chuckled, "Yep, This is Skater Boi, and that's Shadow Lurker." The women said with a simple gesture to show the two other colts apart. Despite Pearl being the mother of Bo this was the first time Trigen had ever seen the other colt, since at the time of birth he himself had been away on other business, and it had been arranged that Pearl would be staying at Neigh Woof stables until the foal had been nursed. After Pearl had came back Trigen had been all too eager to meet the little one, but again lack of time had made it impossible.

"I take it as he is the surprise you were telling me about then?" The pair began to lead the three colts upwards, moving on to where Hakuna and Halo had been left as both moved over to whinny happily at the new arrivals. Upon first entering the field they let the colts sniff at each other first, unclipping Lurk, Bo and Scooter to enable the five to run around with each other a bit, since of course, introductions should always come first and when it came to future stallions it was definitely a good idea to get them used to a range of other horses being around them; Including unfamiliar stallions. "How is the appaloosa breeding program coming along?" Trigen asked while leaning back on the fence, keeping an eye on the colts to ensure they weren't playing too rough, although all seemed to be showing their true personalities as while Halo and Scooter raced each other across the field Hakuna still appeared more interested in his actual surroundings than who he was with, even Lurker was living up to his name by staying away to watch from a safe distance. "Good, We're up to four as of now. These three boys and Steam Train, He doesn't like enclosed spaces or travelling, so there was no way we could have gotten him over here." Michelle replied with a light shrug of her shoulders. "Well seems to be your a little stallion heavy, you know you are always free to use any of our mares anytime you would like." Trigen said it almost like it was a question, with the bloodlines they had going at Tilting Tolter Ranch he was all too eager to help other ranches when it came to things such as appaloosas, or even if they were looking to try and breed a certain personality into a foal. "Your always helping those around you Trigen, you need to think about yourself a little more." looking up at the taller man who only smiled Michelle rolled her eyes at him, "I mean it! When you come out to England, I forbid you from so much as lifting a finger. You will sit down, and sip tea so slowly it will be cold by the end." Her words got a chuckle from him, and even now it was his turn to roll his eyes in return, "If you say so, Michelle." By the way he said it it showed that he knew she couldn't make him, or, at least he thought she couldn't... "You got it right I say so." The two were probably as bad as eachother for needing to get the last word in.

When Bo and Hakuna were the first two to move towards them when the pair moved towards the gate they took the time to clip the leadropes onto them, Trigen biting his lower lip slightly as he did so to Halo when the remaining three came over, "Do me proud boys." He murmured quiet enough for Michelle not to hear as she sorted out her own three. Although, typical boisterous colts they walked fine as he had been practicing as they walked further down the lane before finally deciding to misbehave, Trigen not having any further option than to stop and try to manage them although at seeing Michelle was dealing with her own struggles with her three it at least didn't make him feel all that bad about their misbehaving. A loud, earth shattering whinny came across from the nearest pasture, the familiar tone to it telling Trigen it was Rico before he even turned to see the aging stallion. If horses could glare, he was definitely doing so. It was as if all of the youngsters knew they had pushed their limits and therefore stopped immediately, although Rico could definitely be scary when he wanted to be. In this lot of five, Rico was related to three of them. Being Scooter and Hakuna's Great Grandsire and Bo's Grandsire, it was as if the three could tell that when around him, he deserved their respect for being one of Tilting Tolter Ranches foundation stallions.

With a much less eventful tour of the ranch they eventually led the colts back to one of the bigger fields to give them space to move more freely, releasing them out one by one to let them spend the night there since the weather was supposed to be good and, if it became bad Danny was always around to move them inside again. "Now I believe its my turn to make you your tea to sip slowly." Trigen joked lightly, repeating the words Michelle had told him earlier, "We both know not you or anyone else here can keep me from doing my work. I am looking forward to this training agreement, Trigen, and I just know it will do nothing but good for all the horses involved." The women replied genuinely, Trigen giving a slow nod of thoughtful agreement, "It will definitely be good, a great chance for horses to get used to being around strangers and in strange surroundings before they are dropped into their showing career.." Of course, by the horses being used to moving from Northern Ireland to England, being used to having strange horses around and even different people in the long run it would make them better and more bombproof as they got older. "We can talk more about the terms later, for now, lets just relax." As if his body knew the word Trigen yawned on queue, opening the door to the ranch house to hold it for Michelle, "A true gentleman, are we?" The women teased in a friendly manner, Trigen once again rolling his eyes, letting the door close quietly behind them as the Icelandic sheepdog Ratchet rushed to meet them at the door with his ever wagging tail.

Sibling Rivalry

Sibling Rivalry
Word Count: 1356 | Point Total: 54
Includes; Casino Roar, Flickering Charms

Ever since Casino had met his younger full sister, Sapphire the two had been in competition for their mother Truth's attention. Truth was the kind of dam who had taken care of her babies a little too much, having always been protective, kept an eye on them, and babied them even when they should have been old enough to take care of themselves. So when not only does any new horse come around and steal the attention, but a sibling, Casino is definitely not a happy horse. Any chance he got he tugged on Sapphire's hair or bit her rump until eventually Tilting Tolter Ranch had no choice but to separate him away from the pair again, but on the brightside, the separation did give the stallion the chance to learn that his Dam wouldn't always be there to take care off him and his problems.

Ever since Sapphire and Casino were separated no more was done to try and push the pair to get along, afterall it wasn't the first case of jealousy they had dealt with, and they had always found it easier to leave it if it had sorted. With Flickering Charms becoming an older filly herself they made the decision to move her into a pasture of her own once a week in order to slowly but surely get her used to living without the constant company of other tolters or moreso her Dam to take care of her, ensuring they didn't end up with another case like Casino who remained in a foal-like state of mind even when he was a full grown stallion.

With the rare hot, summer nights arriving in Northern Ireland Danny and Rebekah chose to take the horses out, against Danny knowing that Sapphire and Casino didn't exactly get along that well it was still the two they chose. The competitive nature was quickly learnt though. "Lets race! One two three go!" Rebekah yelled as a laugh soon followed, nudging Sapphire onwards, neither of the horses wearing saddles. Danny barely had the chance to get onto Casino fully before he was taking off in a determined way, not about to let his sister beat him again. Storming through the small amount of forest which would eventually lead towards the opening to the beach by the time the two were halfway there and jumping over the strong, but relatively small river Danny still didn't suspect anything other than they were more behind than he had originally thought. That was, until they came out at the beach still to no sign of Rebekah or Sapphire, Casino snorting in a seeming proud way of having won.

A matter of minutes passed before Danny began to make his way back in search of them, worried encase something had happened, "Rebekah? Its not funny anymore." He called at not having been answered the first few times, the silence only opened by the sound of the birds singing to the early morning light and the sound of the river rolling. Even Casino seemed tense, his head moving around more. Suddenly the stallions head jerked upwards, his ears flickering while his head turned. Letting out a high pitched whinny he jumped into action, storming down the rocky area which ran by the stream, Dani having no choice but to hold on for dear life and begin to rethink his growing habit of not saddling a horse fully before riding it. Eventually he was thrown from the determined stallions back who didn't seem to even notice, "Casino! Wait!" Danny yelled desperately, getting back to his feet and ignoring the pain in his leg to run after the stallion to try and catch up.

The boy got a renewed energy when he seen Rebekah though, climbing down the small ledges. Casino had had no choice but to stop at the top but, when the headstrong stallion seen no other way he did what hopefully no other horse would have by moving back and taking the jump, "Casin-" Knowing it was too later when the stallion's front legs collided with the muddy ground Danny winced as they slid in the wet mud, and while it may have broken the fall a little it didn't help the fact that his whole body turned into a darkened mess. "What happened?" Danny asked in a panic towards Rebekah as both moved towards the stallion who had gotten to his feet and stopped momentarily, "Sapphire didn't jump over the river, she pulled us down into it! I couldn't get her out... When we finally made that drop I lost her." They moved turned to look towards the small waterfall, luckily, it wasn't the typical kind that was full of rocks at the bottom, it was the perfect place to dive from... Just not with a horse. "You have no idea where she went?" Danny glanced over Rebekah to ensure she hadn't been hurt, reaching behind him for Casino only to find himself feeling thin air, turning to see the stallion had completely disappeared. The boys jaw dropped open while he looked in the mud to see the hoofprints which led to the right; Further away from the ranch and into the trees. "Lets go!"

The clinging branches which swung back to hit them in the face weren't easy to run through, not to mention the multiple hidden rocks which led to a lot of tripping, so much so that by the time they were even getting close to a clearing both had fallen multiple times. "Worst thing about all of Truth's babies, they all love the damn water too much." Danny huffed while running, out of breath, "Could you not have told me that before we started to come out to the beach?" Rebekah questioned in an annoyed tone, Danny shaking his head in disbelief, "That was the whole reason for bringing them to the beach!" Of course, it was in their nature to argue over the stupid things, especially over who's fault this was. "Oh well look whe-" Rebekah started, but was quickly cut off when they came through some final bushes, surprised to see them at a different part of the beach. What was more surprising for Danny anyways was the sight of Casino and Sapphire, not only not fighting each other, but if anything getting along as they trotted through the shallows of the morning sea, both horses didn't seem to have noticed they were there yet. "They.... are getting along...." Danny said rather hesitantly, it rolling off of his tongue like a sentence which should never be spoken. "Aren't they brother and sister? Aren't they supposed to?" Rebekah questioned cluelessly, Danny moving on out of the hidden area to lift his hand to his mouth and let out a loud whistle which made both turn their heads to look, "Yeah... I guess so.." The boy was clearly in shock by the pair who were moving at a slow walk, side by side of each other without any biting, kicking, or anything else for that matter. "Well I don't know about you, but I change my mind about the beach. I say home, bed, and we promise to never wake up early to go riding again." Rebekah cleared up her thoughts, leaving Danny to stand there like the awestruck person he was to feel over Sapphire's legs to ensure there was no injury, feeling some tension and heat as she frowned, "Looks like we're walking back." She mumbled, patting the fillies shoulder.

Danny finally awoke from his trance with a smirk, "No... Your walking back!" He corrected, running forward to hop onto Casino, urging the stallion back across the beach. The morning seemed full of surprises though as when Casino stopped suddenly only for him to go flying over his outstretched neck onto the ground infront Danny moaned in pain at being dropped on his back again, merely lying there until Rebekah's laughing face came back into view, "You know what they say, Danny. Sisters before misters." The girl teased with an amused laugh, glancing to Casino who was now moving side by side to Sapphire once again.

Word Count: - | Point Total: -
Includes; Casino Roar, Street Boy, Who Do Voodoo, Hakuna Matata, Gonna Get You, Wartime Saviour

On the far side of Tilting Tolter Ranch, there was a long line of open ground, it had simply been called 'the hill' because of how the gentle slopes eventually led to one, tougher climb upwards. With the rainfall, it was made slippery with mud, but thanks to the Icelandic horses sure footing often even when most others would fail to get to the top they succeeded. Well, unless it was Corner Shop or Hugging Suit you asked of course. With those, you would just be asking to end up deeper in the ground than you started. The workers all had their favourite horses here and the ones who they got along with the most but one thing that had caused many arguments was the speed of the tolters at tilting tolter ranch. Who was the true fastest tolter? "It has to be Hakuna Matata. He lives to run!" Rebekah pointed out, the buckskin appaloosa stallion rising his head, snorting as if in agreement with her. "I think Wartime Saviour is pretty fast... Gonna Get You was a real fast guy when he escaped that time, yeah I think him. Rico would have won them all, if he was still in his prime." At least that was one thing everyone could agree on, or, most. Trigen gestured at Street Boy, or Rico for short, "Age works a charm, This boy has another twenty years of Speed before he even begins to slow down!"

The argument could have went on for another entire day before Trigen gestured to the small, tree area which rested beyond the highest hill, "Speed is nothing in a horse unless it has the endurance and steadiness to go with it. What good is speed if the horse is going to fall or slow?" Trigen reasoned, as usual, the other workers knowing better than to question the bosses reasoning so just nodding slowly to show they were actually listening. "So we are going to have a race. Rico, Plague, Hakuna, Hunter, Casino. A-" Being cut of rather quickly by Carlos who was already running up with an eager Who Do Voodoo Trigen raised an eyebrow at the others argument, "That's only stallions! This mare has enough speed to beat them all twice over, trust me! I am the one who has to catch her to get her in everyday, she runs like a charm!"
