Prologue - Petrichor.

Postby Todd. » Fri Jul 24, 2015 9:25 am

    Petrichor (n.)
    - The smell of earth after the rain.

When you hear about accidents that happen in the jungle you never think that something like that will happen to you. You always bet that it all happened because of some explorer imprudence or something like that, which really is the main reason for things. You never believe that something like this will happen to you or someone you know, and in my case it wasn't different.

I bet that if there is a higher power it probably is laughing at me right now, saying how weak and useless we are against things like destiny. -Mhn...- what was that pain in the back of my head? Actually, where was I at all? I could feel the cold wet earth underneath me and now that I was recovering my senses, I could feel cold rain drops pouring over my body too. -D**n...- I wasn't one to curse, not at all, but find yourself in a situation like the one I was on, with a nasty headache and a sore body shivering with the cold in the middle of apparently nowhere. Except that there wasn't nowhere.

    - Hello? - I finally pushed myself up, looking around and searching for any signs of the group that was walking with me. Any efforts to remember what happened only made the headache worst and lead me into giving up the almost same second. Slipping a hand through my hair I found that one sore spot, a warm liquid oozing out of there. -"Great."- That explained a lot. So I fell down, probably, and was knocked out until then. The question was, when it was 'until then?'. With a grunt I got to my feet, finding my pack on the floor a few feet away from me, some of my material scattered on the ground, probably the work of any monkeys or curious wild animal that lived on this woods.

-"Despise all I must thank the fact that the hearing aids are water proof and still working."- Gosh, even thinking hurt. The sensation was like that of having a knife pushed into your skull. The world spun for a moment and the sour taste of bile reached my tongue. -"This is bad."- If that was the only thing that came up then it meant my stomach was empty, which meant I was there for some time already. A few seconds were needed for me to come back to normal and so I finished shoving the scattered things back into the pack. Checking the camera a relieved sigh escaped me. It wasn't broken and still had some battery left. The previously taken pictures though didn't offer me the help I needed.

I made way over under a few trees were the floor was dry and looked around, all I could see was a dense forest. It was dark down there so I couldn't tell exactly what hour of the day was, my watch was broken and now that I was staring at my wrist I could see a purple spot on it, probably from an impact which also occasioned the broken glass. Lifting my eyes towards the canopy I noticed a rock wall, and by all meanings I probably fell down from up there. It was a nasty fall, pretty much explained the soreness, the gash in the back of my head and the broken device.

Placing my bag back on the floor I set up, hugging my knees to my chest. I wasn't stupid, wouldn't simply fall from such a height and apparently I wasn't taking any pictures at the moment, so I had no idea why I fell down. -"Either way, people always tell you to seat and wait and considering my empty stomach I've been here for a while."- Twisting in place I rummaged through my bag, searching for any food I had in there. I remembered packing up a lot, after all we were going in a long walk...

Night 1

Postby Todd. » Sun Aug 16, 2015 8:07 am

So, apparently I stayed a day and half unconscious on the floor under the rain. I feel the signs of a flu catching up and I have no medicine. I still have no idea of were I am and my current plan is to search for a river or any kind of waterbody . I still have food left in my pack, however I don't think it'll last long enough. I had marked the trees around with a Swiss Knife in hope someone will see it, or if no one does at least I know that I had already been there.

So far I miss my family. I wish I could tell them I am okay and that, I know this is not the kind of situation to say this but, well, I'm taking awesome photographs. It seems like this place hasn't been touched by anyone and I feel like one of those old times explorers, seeing everything for the first time and being seen by the first time either.

Anyway, the whole purpose of writing this kind of journal is to have something to give to my family if helps arrives too late, or in case I hit my head again, after all we never know.

Day two

Postby Todd. » Sun Aug 16, 2015 8:29 am

My intentions when I began writing this was to write only at night when I found somewhere to stay, however I guess there are things we should write right away so we never forget. I left the cave I had spent the day on yesterday as soon as the sun was up. Though I know we shouldn't leave 'human made' damages behind I guess leaving those are give me more chances to get found sooner or later.

Anyway, it's around mid-day by now, which means I have been walking for at least a couple of hours. Six I think, since I left when the sun was just rising.  So, it's hot here, very hot and I decided to take a break and stay still in a shadowed place. This is one of the moments where I do thank myself a lot for watching tons of documentaries about life in the jungle. If it wasn't for those I guess I would have kept walking, would have finished with my water and would be entirely dehydrated by the time I got somewhere to rest.

But this is not what I wished to tell. I'll get straight to the point since there is no reason to keep holding up things. I took quite sometime to all asleep last night, I had this feeling of being watched the entire time and since I couldn't see a feet in the darkness I preferred to stay right there where I was safe. This morning I had the same feeling, and I began paying attention to what was going on around me, this is when I saw this entire group of little monkeys, they were small and quite noisy and I guess they were curious with me just as I was with them.

I took some pictures of them and I wish I had a book about mammals with me, but the only thing I brought was a bird about one, since they were the main point of the entire trip. Those monkeys actually helped me quite a lot and right now my stomach if full thanks to them. The rules are, if they eat we do. I have no idea of what kind of fruit that one was, but it was juicy and sweet and now I have a whole load of them in my pack. I think those helped with the thirst too to speak the truth.
