Hope when all is Hopeless is a maze runner fanfic written by me
Please do not steal it as I placed a lot of effort into it
Updates may be slow but yea

Though I still didn't published it there

They stood side by side

Watching another day fade

They watch the doors to the maze close

And thats when they hear it

The noise that is all so familiar to them

The noise of someone being brought up

Little did they know that it could mark as their new dawn into a life better than what they had before them

Newt's POV

My feet echoed throughout the entire maze as I ran back towards the Glade. I only have one objective in my mind. And that is to get back alive.

I burst into the daylight and slumped to the grass. I was panting heavily as sweat covered my entire face. A face loomed above me.

Tommy

He smiled "Found anything interesting?"

I shook my head "Besides all the cracked walls and moss? Nope"

My turn as a runner had passed and only a close encounter with a griever had happened

Thomas helped me to my feet and helped me walk towards the homestead

"Why are you helping me?" I mutter

"I know your limp has gotten worse" he whispered

Well that may be true though I denied it

"Im fine" I say as I yanked my arm from him

He chuckled "Whatever you say"

I rolled my eyes and walked towards my hammock

I laid down and tried to ignore the pain in my leg

I ran madly and made a sharp turn and found myself facing a dead end. I whirled around and found myself face to face with a slug like creature with metallic parts.
A griever
It moved towards me and I dove to my right and got up and started running again.
Think Newt Think I told myself
I need to get back
I made another turn and almost cried in happiness when I saw the door. I ran towards it and burst into daylight

I sighed and got up to join the others for dinner.

I walked towards the campfire where we sit around to just waste time.

I sat in my usual spot

Always at the back of the group where nobody can see me.

I stared at the doors of the maze which were already closed and felt someone sit beside me

Thomas

"How come you're silent?" He asked

I just shrugged and started to think on how can he be in a good mood until now

"Not in the mood to talk eh?"

I sighed and said "I just had a near death experience with a griever, Tommy"

I saw him cringe and I told him about it

"You're lucky you got out" he said after I told him

I nod

After a few moments of silence I dare to ask

"Is there even a way out of here?"

He sighed and said "I don't even know. I just...wish I could.."

"Do something?" Someone suggested

Both of us turned around and saw Minho standing

"Yeah" Thomas said

Minho walked over and sat beside me

"I say we do a better job tomorrow shall we?" Minho said

I groaned

I almost forgot

I was part of the ones who will go into the maze again. Along with Thomas and Minho

Thomas nodded

"Perhaps tomorrow will be different"

We all walked back towards our hammocks in the homestead and I started to drift into an uneasy sleep

I was in a glass box
Water was surrounding all over me
I banged on the glass as my lungs fought desperately for air
A lady in all white stood in front of me and said in words I could hear very clearly
"Your lives will all change,forever"

Newt's POV

I woke up to be greeted by the smiling face of Thomas

"Almost time to go" he said

I groaned

"Can't I go next year?" I said

He shook his head "Nope"

I sighed and stood up

The three of us, Me,Minho and Thomas prepared to get an early start in the maze

We sprinted to the entrance as the doors started opening

"I hate this bloody place"I mutter

"You speak too much bloody and too much negativity" Minho teased

"True that" Thomas pointed it out

"Shut up you shuck faced shucks" I spat

The doors opened with finality and we all ran inside

We ran with Minho leading as he was the one who spent all night in the map room

Normally it would be me who would be in there studying but I was too tired too even get out of my hammock

"This way"Minho said

We followed him and heard something

"Wait"

We looked around but saw nothing

"Here" Minho said quietly

We changed directions and went the opposite way

Several hours passed and we were forced to give up or else we would be trapped in the maze tonight

I don't even know if we could find a way out then

We walked out and stood side by side

Watching another day fade

We watched the doors of the maze close

And thats when we hear it

The noise of something or someone being brought up by the box

We looked at each other

"New month?" Minho asked

"Guess so" I said

We ran towards it and saw that a crowd has begun to form and that the lids of the box were opening

I jumped inside,wincing as the impact hurt my foot

"Hello?" I called out

Nothing

"There's no one-"

I stopped when I felt something cold pressed against my neck

"Don't move or else I'll kill you" a voice with a british accent said

"What do you want?" I said, surprised to hear a british accent in his or her voice

"To know where I am. To know how I ended up here. To know why I cannot remember a single,bloody thing?"

I saw Thomas jump in "What's taking so... oh"

I rolled my eyes

"You can't get answers to your questions if you kill me, greenie"

I felt the grip loosen and I turned around to face the greenie

It was a girl

She was slightly smaller than me. Her long and slightly curly hair were in the same shade of blonde as mine. Her eyes were my eyes too. She looked as if she was about 16

"What's your name?" Thomas asked

I saw her struggle. Struggling to get pieces of her memory back

"I...can't remember.." she said

"You'll get it later. By the way Im Thomas" Thomas said "And this is Newt" he said gesturing to me

She nodded

I went back up followed by Thomas and the newbie

"It's a girl" Thomas said

They all just nodded their heads

"Her name?" A 14 year old girl asked

"We still don't know yet" I replied

I turned to face her

"Tomorrow you'll be oriented on what to do and what not to do-"

"Nicka" She said

"Sorry what?" I said

She took a deep breath and said with confidence

"My name is Nicka"

Newt's POV

"My name is Nicka"

Hearing that sent a slight pang to my chest

It felt all too familiar

I looked at her and nodded

Somebody started making their way to us

Alby

"Welcome to the Glade, Nicka. This will be your new home. Now before anything else I need to set some rules.

One don't ask questions until tomorrow. Two NEVER go inside those walls-"

"Why?" Nicka asked

"Rule one greenie" Alby said "And three not a rule but just an advice, try not to make too much enemies. Okay no questions? Of course none. Ok then bye see you tomorrow" he said and walked away

"Weirdo" I heard her mutter

I rolled my eyes and looked at her. She seemed to be taking the situation well.

"You okay?" I asked

"Besides taking a nasty ride in a bloody box, not knowing your past,being tossed into some unknown place and having no idea on what to do, yea Im fine. Actually, Im doing great!" She said sarcastically

I sighed "Look I know its a lot-"

"Uhmm Newt, Minho is calling you to proceed to the uhmm 'Place of Awesomeness?'" Said one of the gladers

I almost laughed

Place of Awesomeness is basically the map room but we all have code names for it just in case

Nicka turned to me,confusion written on her face

"Uhh yea alright just a sec!" I told the glader

"Chuck!" I called

A slightly fat boy with brown curls came towards me a smile written on his face "Yes Newt?"

"Can you lead Nicka as to where she's sleeping?"

Chuck nodded "Sure! Come Nicka" he turned to her and smiled

I smiled at them and made my way to the map room

I opened the door and went inside and closing the door swiftly once Im in

"I might have found something"

My head turned to see Minho staring at sector 7 of the Maze

I made my way towards him and asked "What?"

"See these walls?" He said while pointing two walls side by side

I looked at it for a moment and then I saw it

A passage that could admit a fairly thin person

"Oh there" I say pointing it out

Minho nods "I believe we might have missed it while we were searching for clues on that sector before"

I nod but the question is...

"Who could fit into the space between them?" Minho said voicing my thoughts

I looked at it

"Im okay I guess..." I say slowly because to be honest, I really hate going into that kind of passage ways. Horrible thoughts go into my mind as I picture my self being crushed by those walls or having a griever at the top and at the left and right side of me

Minho studied me carefully "Alright then. We'll see to it tomorrow. You can go now"

I nodded at him and exited the map room

I made my way to the hammocks and saw Chuck and Nicka laughing
Well, at least they're getting along well I thought

I went to my own hammock and laid there thinking on what tomorrow holds for me

I sigh and started to close my eyes when I felt someone tap my shoulder

I opened my eyes and saw Nicka's face above me

"Just wanted to say thank you and good night" she said, her warm breath spreading across my face

I smiled "Yeah sure no problem"

Nicka gave me half a smile and went back to Chuck

I laid there just watching the sky

Nicka

It seemed so familiar

Could she be a friend? Family?

Could she be my lover?

Nicka's POV
I woke up in a cold rising box
Fear and panic gripped my brain, stopping me from thinking straight
All I saw was darkness
I started suffocating as I hate being in closed and tight places
I made my way to the back of a box and closed my eyes
"Just STOP!" I screamed
And it did
Well, the box did
I heard voices outside but I was unable to make out what they're saying
A moment later I heard something land in the box and a groan which may suggest that it hurt
"Hello?" Someone called out
Silence
I found a small knife and picked it up
I crept towards it and made my way nearer
"There's no one-"
I pressed the knife onto his throat and I whispered to him
"Don't move or else I'll kill you"
"What do you want?" He said in his thick english accent
"To know where I am. To know how I ended up here. To know why I can't remember a single, bloody thing"
I saw someone jump in and heard it say "What's taking so...oh"
"Killing me won't help you, greenie" the boy whom I was holding said
I gritted my teeth and released him
I saw him look at me
Everything about him from his eyes,hair,voice and face screams to be remembered
That I may have known him
Does he feel the same too?
"What's your name?" The boy with brown hair said
I struggle to remember. But all I can remember are foggy bits of pieces from my memory, as if it was blocked by mist or something
"I...I can't...remember" I said
"You'll remember it later. By the way Im Thomas" he pointed to himself "And this is Newt" he pointed to the blonde boy
Newt
The name echoed around my head
And Im so frustrated that I can't remember anything
I just nodded
"Tomorrow you'll be oriented on what to do and what not to do-"
Then I heard it
Nicka
As if someone was calling me
Nicka
It repeated all over my head and I blurted it out
"Nicka"
"Sorry what?"
I took a deep breath and said with confidence
"My name is Nicka"

Chuck and I were laughing about something

He was the very first to make me laugh

I saw Newt make his way towards his hammock

I can't help but notice his limp

I wonder what happened

Chuck looked at Newt

"You better thank him. You're lucky he didn't get mad at you for having that knife on his throat"

I sighed

"Yeah,maybe I should" I say slowly

I walked over to him and tapped his shoulder

I saw him look up

I took a deep breath and said "Just wanna say thank you and good night"

He smiled at me

A smile that made me warm all over

"Yeah sure its no problem"

I gave him half a smile and walked back to Chuck

I laid down beside him and watched the sky

Remembering something, I turned to Chuck

"What's the 'Place of Awesomeness'?"

Chuck laughed again his laughter sending echoes throughout the Glade

I can't help but smile too
Maybe, just maybe
I could get used to this

Newt's POV

A week has passed and Nicka finally got used to the Glade

She is currently working in the gardens as that is what we think is best for her

Everything seemed fine

But there is one thought that kept bugging me

"What if we pressed that button?.."

"Newt wake up we have to go" Minho said as he shook me awake
I blinked
ThenI remembered
I was about to slip into the narrow passageway Minho discovered
I sigh and got up
I grabbed the stuff I need and we ran towards the Maze
Minho stopped and motioned for me to follow him
We turned again
Left
Right
Right
Stop
Turn
Left
Right
Dead end
Back
Left
Right
Until...
"This is it" Minho said
And he was right
The walls could admit both of us, fortunately
I turned around and said "You're coming with me"
Minho shrugged and followed me
I squeezed my way into the spaces between the walls
I tried to focus on my breathing
We finally got out and stared in a new part of the maze we found
I stared in awe at it
"What the shuck is this place?" I heard Minho say
Everything was covered in metal the floors were tiles
Nothing were made out of rocks
"Greetings Gladers" said a cool female voice
Minho and I whipped our heads in search for whoever is talking
"I see you found this part of the maze. And no this isn't a way out"
A pedestal with a button appeared
"You have a choice to make" the speaker said "Push that button and have reward brought upon you or walk away"
I dare say "But there is a catch, right?"
It paused then continued
"Why yes of course, pushing that button can give you supplies every day,much more products and a larger variety of weapons. But the catch is the doors of the maze won't close for a week"
Minho and I looked at each other
"Oh and did I mention you will slowly gain your memories?"
"What do you think?" I asked Minho
"We really don't need weapons and we already have supplies... But man, the memory part is really tempting"
I sighed
"We'll think about it" I said loudly
After that we exited the maze
We never spoke about it to anyone
Well except to Thomas and a few others
We never went back to press it
But what if it's right to go back?

Newt's POV

I made my way across the Glade

I saw Nicka doing her work in the gardens

Someone had sent me a message saying that Gally needs to talk to me

I snorted

I entered the gathering room to see he was there alone

"What?" I asked

Gally looked at me "I need you to tell me what you discovered in the maze yesterday"

I took a deep breath

"Nothing,well nothing important really" I lied

Gally squinted his eyes at me and I stared at him back calmly

I wasn't gonna let him win this time

"Im gonna repeat my question. What did you-"

"Nothing" I cut him off

"You're lying" he said

"Oh yeah? Alright then! If that's all, I'll be going back now"

I turned but I felt Gally pull the hem of my shirt

He pulled me and made me face him

"Look shuck, I don't care if you're second in command or anything. The person who made you second in command must have been really stupid"

I felt furious

"Well, at least he isn't stupid enough to appoint you as second in command!"

I stormed out of the room
What the shuck did he want? I thought
Could he have found out about it? Only Minho and I know...Unless he followed us which seems unlikely

"Hey Newt!"

I looked up and saw Nicka

"Oh hello there"

"You seem deep in thought. Whatcha thinking about?" She asked

"Nothing much really" I said
I slowed my pace down to let her catch up with me
What if Gally had found out about our discovery? I thought
I needed to talk to Minho
"I have to go, I'll talk with ya later Nicka" I sprinted towards the map room where I know where the shank will be
I entered it
"Minho!" I yelled
"Shut your arses shuck!" Minho yelled followed by a thud and a groan
I looked down to see him below the table
"What're ya doin' down there?" I questioned
"Certainly not having a cup of tea with the floor" Minho said sarcastically
"Look I need to tell ya somethin'" I say and told him everything
Minho thought about it for a moment
"We should be careful next time"
"Duh" I say

I went back to my hammock and watched the sky turn dark
I heard the rumblings of the doors of the maze closing
I sighed and rolled to my right
"What did Gally want?"  The question repeated itself over and over again in my head
I was too tired and fell asleep

And as usual the dreams come back
I saw someone hunched over and talking to a baby boy who looked 4 years old
"Im..sorry" the woman said
"I tried my best to stop them..But I failed"
More tears
"I promise I will find you..Remember I..love you.." the woman paused and cried "I love you too mommy" the child said as it stood up
I had a clear look at what the boy looked like
My heart skipped a beat
Because that boy there
Had a tag around his neck saying
"Property of WICKED
Newt
