Roll says... 5: Keep moving.
"We should go," you say. "Dipperpaw, just stay with Pipitpaw and keep him calm for now. We can't afford to get left behind."
Dipperpaw doesn't seem pleased with this, but they just nudge Pipitpaw up and begin walking with him. Darkpelt comes up beside you and together you lead the youngsters through the darkness.
Normally, you would be able to see, but the rain is getting heavier and heavier, and now you're almost having Darkpelt find the path. The irony is not lost on you.
It's a long walk thanks to your slow pace and having to push through a lot of grass, but finally Darkpelt stops and says, "We're clear. This is the spot, right?"
You shake your head to clear the rain away from your eyes and look out. "Yes. I can't see anyone, though."
"We'll wait, then." She trots into the clearing and sits down, completely ignoring the rain. You sigh and just nudge the apprentices to sit next to her so you can examine them to see if they're wounded.
The white one, Hollypaw, is somehow only nicked on her ear and just above her eye. The rain and her wiping the spot off have kept it clean, so you don't have to worry. Dipperpaw and the quaking Pipitpaw are both uninjured, though the tiny tom seems about ready to shake himself apart. Words don't reach him.
"Don't you have any poppyseeds or whatever they're called?" asks Hollypaw.
"I left all my herbs behind," you say dejectedly. "I wish I hadn't. But Goosefur would have noticed if I brought a bunch with me."
"Looks like we were noticed anyway." Hollypaw glances out across the road, where the fighting can still be heard. "D'you figure everyone's gunna come out of there?"
"Maybe. Maybe not." Darkpelt's whiskers twitch. "I'll bet you a mouse we lose someone."
"Darkpelt!" you hiss.
"Two mice if it's one of our leaders," she continues blithely.
Hollypaw gives her a funny look. "I'll pass on that," she says slowly.
"If you say so."
The group falls to silence. Pipitpaw is slowly beginning to breathe steadily. Time wears on and your feet get colder and colder.
After what seems like an eternity, you hear someone coming. You stand up just in case it's an enemy, but to your relief, it's Mudstream. She's helping one of her cats along, and you can see several cats behind her. But you don't think there's anyone else.
Let me see who's hurt.
Where's everyone else?
You're all okay!
Say nothing.
