And about them have being friends before, i think that would be a bad idea, personally. I think they should just be in a class together or something because she's pretending to be a demon....? And he's annoying and obnoxious on the outside, so she hates him, but they do some sort of project together and she realizes eh's nice when not around other groups, like of popular kids.
And the war/idol thing I think should have been going on for a long time, like decades before she was born.
That's just me, personally.

Sounds really good, it would give a bit of depth to both characters.
