~Are you part of the Inklings Community: No, I haven't been very active on CS, but just came across this thread. And because I am literally sitting at my table with a bunch of my novel developing papers sitting infront of me, thought I should/could join.
~Writing Experience: I have participated in NaNoWriMo (and won) two years in a row now. I write full length stories (200+) pages when school is not a problem. Nothing posted on the internet though. My parents want me to publish, but I got a weird phobia of people reading my work. Ironic considering how much I like writing though. ~Character/Plot Ideas:
To add on to The_Amazing plot that is being discussed:
- It sounds very interesting, almost like a large game of capture the flag per say. However, as a right of passage means, does that mean everyone must do this ordeal, or is just for the main character(s) because they are special (royal blood or something). If it is just the one character who must do this task. I suggest perhaps raising the stakes. Making this a race against time for one reason or another. That this relic must be returned to its rightful island, or the island in the sky falls. Perhaps it is only one relic to share between the two islands, so one is always in constant danger, sending their chosen one out. It would really drive your main character to get this object, probably putting his life on the line, if he knows his whole homeland will collapse if he fails. A nice twist to this story if what if, he fails? What if the blue moon arrives and he still has not his goal? What happens if the character learns, that all this time, the centuries of this transition of the relic back and fourth did not keep the islands afloat?! It was all a rhuse for some royal's game. Or it is an old tradition. But perhaps, it is something else that is keeping them afloat.....
If you take the other way and have multiple characters and multiple relics, then I see this story more as a team work game. That people could, yes, try alone to get this relic. Or make groups, factions, teams to work together. Perhaps the antagonist will not be even the opposing team, but someone in your hero's own team that for some ulterior motive, is trying to hold everyone back.
