Authors Circle

Postby tide. » Fri Jul 09, 2010 3:17 am

Hi! I'm a very avid story writer/author/person, so I felt that this would go nicely in here for a place to share both my own and others creations! I have around 40-50 unfinished stories that have yet to be published, (Yeah, I know. Pathetic, right? xD  ) Here's an excerpt from my most recent one. (Yes! I liked my own story... Yes, I know that's pathetic. x3)
(Story name)Change-
"I accept." I replied. Lezri gave a cold smile, and the floating holographic image of the vial solidified and dropped into her hand. She passed it over to me, and I clasped it gingerly. These would be my last few moments of humanity and awareness of the mortal world for a year. Did I really want to do this? Yes, I did. I really did. The temptation had become too great, and I pressed my lips to the top of the vile. The glass was cold, cold as ice. It felt the same as the cold pressure on my neck before, and I wondered if Lezri or Tonir had done that to me. I leaned my head back, closed my eyes...
I felt the cold liquid rush through me with my eyes still closed. It slid smoothly down my throat, and I felt it disperse throughout my body. Suddenly, I felt my heart lurch. I collapsed. A moment before I blacked out, I heard the two of them talking. "Foolish girl." Lezri snarled. "The council will be displeased with her work, won't they Tonir?" "Yes, very displeased." Tonir chuckled. "Very displeased." Then I slipped into the murky blackness of a lost year.

So? How'd I do? PM me or post in this forum with any questions or comments! Also, feel free to post your own creations. Everyone who posts, or just wants to read your novels, can critique or comment. I'll be frequently posting some of my own new ones, too. ;)

Don't want to post but having trouble finishing a story? Here's my method:

Sorry; I'm quite ridiculous when it comes to grammar. Other than that minor slip-up, that's a good hook for your story.

I'm a writer myself (of course, otherwise I wouldn't bother to post let alone bookmark this) and I also suffer 'unfinished story syndrome'. Haha, what an acronym. Anyway, I have four, maybe five, unfinished works right now. I keep thinking of new ideas... I have a feeling most young authors have this problem. What do you think?

I just wanted to qoute this, even thought it is from the starting of this thread, because I just wanted to say how this really relates to me. I have a binder that I started almost seven years ago with around thirty stories that I have never finished.
Does anyone have any good ideas on how to stick with one story adn actually finish it?

I write unusually fast, and I read even faster. Think of the fstest reader you know.

I can read faster :P and I can not help it either, which isn't a good thing since people get mad at me :(

So if anyone has any ideas on how to cure "unfinished story syndrome" please tell me!

THE CURE:

-Step 1: Delete all the stories you know have no potential or you know you can't finish them.

-Step 2: Read over the ones you have left. Repeat step 1. If this is hard for you, if you wrote some of them a long time ago and still haven't re-started, then you should probably delete it. They are most likely dead. Still don't have the heart to delete it? Try re-reading it again and see if you can give it a new twist. Then decide.

-Step 3: Repeat steps 1 & 2 until you have about three stories you think have potential.

-Step 4: What I did next was choose one of the last three stories and continue writing them. Then I'll only have the stories with the most potential so I can continue making them better and better without having to pick and choose which ones to make better, distracting me from the writing itself.

Hmm. The word 'vile' should have been 'vial'.

My USS is really annoying. I know exactly what I want to write. I just haven't done it yet! I know I should but I never get around to it.

Oh, that's the worst for me as well. I can have the major points of plot in mind; its only when I try to 'connect the dots', so to speak, when problems occur. I have a lot of trouble with dialogue, which seems to make that problem even more irksome.

I seem to have the opposite problem. D: I've worked on one dtory plot line and characters for 2 years or more, ahaha...I'm just having trouble fitting it into my writing style. |: I love my style, because I like to give uber-detailed descriptions and abuse adjectives, but yeah. o_x Could you deal with this writing style for a whole book? FYI, this is a fanfic, so I don't own the characters. o3o

"the actor-

It hurt to see her this way. See her in so much agony, so much confusion, and so much wrath. It was he who did this to her…this is what he decided and told himself over and over. Maybe if he hadn't have met her, she would have stayed a quaint and quiet Doll, and not have turned into this murderer. He knew Suou worried for him, but he couldn't bring himself to talk about her…Yin. He knew she was interested in his past, but he didn't want to relive it all.

When he had tried to comfort her, it was like she already knew this would happen. But he wouldn't let her go any deeper into this insanity. No, he would pull her out and stop all this. It was he who had done this, so he had to 'kill' this Izanami she had become…bring back his one and only Yin.

The moon of once atonement was now a sign of destruction.

-the pianist

Why did she kill? She didn't know. She had lived many years as just a Doll, who did whatever they were told. She didn't have a free will then. Maybe she killed because they said that was what she was supposed to do. Maybe she killed because she couldn't control this new person, this sense of will she wasn't able to comprehend. Izanami wasn't who she chose to be, but who they told her she was. Neither do these fake stars nor bloody corpses hold comfort to her petrified soul.

He is coming soon, she could feel it. It almost brought a smile to her lips. Though…why hadn't she killed him? Of all people, he might have been the first for her power to strike. Maybe she would try to harness her freedom for him. Maybe she would try. But then, maybe she wouldn't…because that was always how she was told."
I'm back. :^)

Really good! I like the description, it makes for easy visualization. I've had tons of stories that I've started. Some never made it onto the computer, others have actually been halfway finished.
