Chapter one: Shark, Saria, and Caspian.

Postby {willow;; » Tue Sep 03, 2013 7:15 am

{ Cleo awoke to find herself in the cave she called home, she looked among the other mermaids to see they were all asleep, except one. Her younger sister, Saria was not there. Worry tried to get to her, but she knew Saria was most likely picking corals or something. She swam outside to find that her guess was correct. "Good morning, Flower." she said happily, she picked up the little girl and tickled her stomach softly, causing Saria to giggle. "Good morning Cleo!" Saria said under laughs and giggles.
"Why have you gotten up so early?" Cleo asked, letting go of the young girl.
"I don't know. I wanted to pick coral for the matriarch." Saria said as she swam backwards a little.
"Okay. I am going to hunt now." Cleo said to her little sister. As she swam off she turned and called out, "Don't wander too far!"
Cleo turned back to the way she was swimming. She swam close to the surface, so you could see her tail under water, it was shining like the reflection of the sun on the surface of the water.
She swam until she came to an empty area, there were no fish, or crabs, or so you thought. It might look like that but once Cleo lifted a rock you could this part of the ocean was not empty. For the lifting of the rock had revealed many crabs. Cleo grabbed one the way she had been taught to, by grabbing it with her middle finger, pinkie, and her thumb.
She looked at the crab, it looked good. So she dropped it in her bag and continued on. She swam around and when she saw her friend, Caspian. He was also her secret crush. She swam over to her friend.
"Hiya, Caspian!" she said, approaching him slowly, her tail propelling her to him.
"Oh, hi, Cleo!" Caspian said happily.
"That rock is surely full of well crabs. Good enough to eat!" Cleo told him, her tail waving back and forth, like ripples on the surface of an empty pond.
"Good. I'll go check it later."
"Why not now?" Cleo asked.
"I have some work I need to do right now, Cleo." His eyes were bright and friendly.
"Oh, okay." Cleo said sadly, she wanted to work with him, but she knew he already had someone to work with.
"Bye." Caspian said, swimming away.
"Bye." Cleo muttered, after he swam away.

Cleo sat on a rock, the sun had warmed it. She looked around and saw that the ocean was alive, unlike the morning she had. She finished off the crab she had caught and slipped back into the water. She went to go see her sister again.
"Hi, Saria." she said warmly, sitting next to her sister.
"Hi Cleo!'' her sister said excitedly.
"What are you so excited about?" Cleo asked.
"Well, guess what?" Saria gave Cleo no time to guess. "Matriarch, Niri, said I can become a training mermaid tomorrow!" she squealed.
"That's wonderful!" Cleo said kindly.
"I think I'm going to go play with Lilly now. Bye, Cleo." Saria said before she swam off.
Cleo smiled and went to go and look for Caspian again. She swam around for a while until she found that she was where she had found the crabs that morning. "Wonder if he's here." she muttered to herself. She looked around until she felt something watching her.
"Hello? Who's there?" she called out. "I know someone's there. Saria, I told you to stay at the cave!" she said. No answer. The emptiness of the ocean was like the sky on a new moon. No answer. That bothered Cleo.
It was not Saria, nor Caspian, nor any mermaid. A shark swam forward, it was staring straight at Cleo. Cleo backed away slowly. She remembered being taught how to survive a shark in school. She lifted one hand ready to swipe at his gills. Just then three more sharks appeared and surrounded her.
She lunged a hand at the gills of the first shark, but it was too quick. The shark moved out of the way and circled Cleo. Cleo tried swiping again, but every swipe made every shark angrier. She wanted to call for help, but she knew that would provoke the shark.
"Okay." she whispered. "I know I probably look delicious but I a mermaid. You want nothing to do with me." she continued. Sharks always thought that mermaids were seals or something like that, so whenever a mermaid runs into one, the sharks see's lunch.
Cleo looked among the sharks, she eyed one very closely and after moments, painful moments, she swiped. Missed. The sharks became angry. "It's okay. I'm not lunch!" Cleo said, she knew the sharks couldn't understand her.
The shark became even more angry and lunged at Cleo.
This is it. I'm dead. Cleo thought to herself, she knew she as gonna die just then. She closed her eyes and started accepting the angry roar of death in her mind. Then, something happened. She wasn't dead, she felt pain. She opened her eyes to find that she wasn't in heaven, the view was worse. Something had wrapped it's arms around her and had pulled her out of the raging death roar. The view she had was not what had saved her, no, she was looking down on what the shark had done to her. It had bitten, not a big bite, and not too deep. It had taken just a small bite before whatever saved Cleo did.
Cleo looked at the wound, the blood had caused the shark to follow them, she could see it chasing after whatever had saved her. She then felt the release of arms, and was falling onto the sandy ocean floor. She could only see that the shark chased after who had saved her. Her savior was Caspian.
As soon as she saw who had saved her life, she raised onto her arms. She could not move because of her wound but she called out. "Caspian!" she screamed.
The shark bit, this time, hard. Cleo's wound was only caused by a small bite, but this was a big one. It took Caspian's arm.
"Caspian! No!" Cleo continued screaming. She had to get to him. Now. She looked around for something to pull on. Nothing. She looked around until she found a weed that was small but big enough for her to pull on. She pulled herself, forward from the weed. She continued until she made it to Caspian.
"Okay." she said. "It's okay." she whispered to Caspian, his eyes were drooping. Cleo put her ear to his chest and listened bor the measured beat of his heart. It was beating. She stopped the blood from trickling into the ocean by using her bag. She had been taught how to heal somebody in school. She looked over the wound and grabbed the weed that she had pulled herself on. She wrapped it tightly around his elbow area. The shark had bitten of the rest of his arm.
"It's okay. I'll get you home some how." she whispered. She had to. She had to find a way to get hime home.

Chapter two: Get him home

Postby {willow;; » Tue Sep 03, 2013 10:54 am

{ Cleo pulled herself forward, every movement made her muscles ache and ache. She tried her hardest to continued on, even with all that, she still had to take rests. She called out, hoping someone would hear her. "Help! Hello?!" No answer. Just like with the sharks.
Cleo swam forward until she could barely make out a body in the water. "Hello! Help!" she yelled helplessly, her voice was weak.
"Cleo?!" The body called out, it was Saria.
"Saria! Go get more mermaids!" Cleo yelled back, she was now laying on her stomach on the ocean bottom.
There was no answer, but Saria had swam away in a flash after Cleo called out. Cleo waited and waited. How long does it take to get a couple o' mermaids! she would think over and over again. She looked around.
It felt like years before the little girl re-appeared with mermaids behind her. The mermaids swam forward quickly until they made it to Cleo. Every single one of them were shocked and scared at the sight of bloody Caspian and Cleo.
"What has happened?!" The matriarch, Niri asked, her voice was full of worry and sympathy.
"How could you be so care-free?! To let this happen!" One of Cleo's pod-mates, Maya exclaimed.
"Maya, this no-one's fault. Cleo and Caspian didn't mean for this to happen, and the shark only thought they were seals." Niri said calmly, her voice was always calm and patient.
"Lilly, go fetch some beds for us to transport these two on." Niri ordered.
"Yes, Niri." A young training mermaid by the name of Lilly said quickly before swimming off.
"Maya, see to Cleo's wounds. I can see Cleo has already seen to Caspians." Niri said strictly.
Maya did not respond, she went immediately to Cleo, her eyes scanned the wounds. She carefully sprinkled some medicine on Cleo she looked carefully at it and added some more medicine, this time a different kind. "The wounds are not as bad as Caspian's. You'll live." Maya said before swimming over to Caspian. She un-rolled the weeds and sprinkled the medicine on it. She then took out some fresh weeds and rolled back around Caspian's remaining arm.
"Good, Maya." Niri said quietly.
Maya didn't say anything, she swam over to her matriarch and stayed next to her.
Lilly finally arrived with the portable beds. Cleo laid her head on the sandy bottom of the ocean floor and soon fell asleep.

Cleo awoke on her bed, not the portable one, her rock bed. They had moved her and hadn't had even woken her up. She shifted awkwardly, but that only caused her to ache even more. She could see Caspian on the other side of the cave, on his bed. That made her feel better, knowing that he was okay.
"How y'a feeling?" Shawn, a full merman asked Cleo.
Cleo looked up. "Fine, well-" Shawn finished for her.
"Not fine?" he said.
"Yeah." Cleo muttered. She didn't feel like talking. She rolled over and went back to sleep. It would be a couple of days until she could swim again.

Chapter three: Western pod.

Postby {willow;; » Tue Sep 03, 2013 2:41 pm

{ Once a monthThe pods send a letter to each other, the deliverer is different every time. It had been three weeks since Cleo's accident. She always felt bad when she was around Caspian, she would apologize and thank him constantly. Caspian's response was always, "It was nothing." or "That's okay." She still always felt bad.
Cleo swam through the water, her tail had healed and she could swim normally now. She looked around and saw that her matriarch was swimming right outside the cave. "Hi, Niri. I was wondering who was going to deliver Southern pod's letter this month,"
"You. You are going to deliver this month." Niri said warmly.
Cleo eye's filled with excitement, just like she had seen her sister do, who was now a training mermaid. "Really?!" She said excitedly. She had never been the deliverer before. "Where is it?" she asked.
"Right here. Here is the copy fr Northern." Niri said, holding out a scroll. "Handle it with care." she said kindly. Her voice then changed to strict, "Don't you dare lose it."
"Yes, Niri." Cleo said, her voice was still full of excitement. She took the scroll and started swimming in the direction of Western pod. She swam away, turning back to wave to the other mermaids, which smiled with support. Cleo then took off into ultra speed. She swam forward for several hours until the night had sneaked into the sky. She found a coral reef that seemed safe. She lied down on a rock that stuck out from it and soon drifted off into sleep.

Cleo awoke with energy that was fueled by her excitement. She looked around and found that no one was with her. She started again on her journey to Western pod. She swam passed fish, which she smiled at, and sharks, which she eyed. Even though she didn't blame the shark for hurting her, she still kept away. She had heard of mermaid that had come so close to a shark that they pet it.
She swam until she found she was alone, except for one thing. She was in an empty area of the lively ocean. But there was one thing in this empty area that would stick out anywhere. Cleo was in the middle of a blue whale pod. She had to stop and play with the baby whales. "Hiya, little one!" she said gently. She petted the baby whale, who was bigger than her. "You are so cute!" she continued. "Is that your mom?" she asked, swimming over to a whale that was watching them both. "Hello, girl. Your a pretty girl!" she smiled. She then remembered her duties. "I'm sorry, I have to go. Bye!" she turned and sped away. She swam on until the water got warmer and she could see the Western mermaids all together on what they called home, jagged rocks that stuck out of the water.
Cleo swam up to them. "Greetings from Southern pod." she said kindly. "Here is the message we have worked hard to get to you." she said more straight.
"Wonderful. Thank you." the Western matriarch, Samantha said, reading over the scroll. "Mari, see that this month's deliverer has a good bed for the night." she said, looking up from the scroll.
"Yes, Samantha. What is your name?" A full mermaid, Mari asked Cleo kindly.
"Cleo." Cleo said gently.
"Well, Cleo, follow me. We save this one for the deliverers. Before it gets dark you may eat dinner with the rest of the pod." Mari said. "I'll give you a second to rest." Mari swam away and started dinner, shrimp.
Cleo lied down on the rock. Wow! This was better than her's at home! She nearly would have drifted off if it weren't for Mari calling out, "dinner!"
Cleo swam over to where the gathered mermaids and sat down in between Mari and Samantha.
"As always, we will introduce our Deliverer to everyone." Samantha announced.
Cleo nodded. "I am Cleo," she politely.
"Okay everyone, introduce yourselves!" Samantha said. "I am matriarch, Samantha."
"I am second-in-command, Mari." Mari said, a smile growing across her face.
"I'ma full mermaid, Talia." A blonde haired girl with a pink tail said.
"I am Josh and this is Holly." A young boy said.
"Hey! I wanna introduce myself!" A pretty girl said. "I'm Holly, training mermaid." she said proudly.
"I'm Luke!" laughed a little boy.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all!" Cleo said. "What about you?" she asked a boy who sat on the other side.
"I'm Mac." he muttered.
"Please, the pleasure is ours." Samantha said. "Looks like it is getting dark. Good night everyone." she said before swimming off to one of the rocks.
Cleo swam to her comfortable rock and soon fell into peaceful sleep.

Chapter four: Northern pod.

Postby {willow;; » Wed Sep 04, 2013 5:52 am

{ Cleo awoke in the comfortable bed Western pod granted her. She looked up and saw that the other mermaids were already up. "Oh, it's late, I better get going." she said to herself. She forced herself up. She was exhausted from the journey that took her two days to have. She looked around and saw Mari. "I must go now, I need to get this letter to Northern pod." she said to her friend.
"Alright. Glad you came. May Poseidon be with you." Mari said kindly before she swam off to hunt. (Poseidon and water angels are the things mermaids worship.)
Cleo sam to the Western matriarch. "Goodbye, Samantha. I must go deliver this letter to Northern." Cleo said, her voice was still tired.
"Goodbye, Cleo. May Poseidon be with you." Samantha said gently and swam off.
Cleo swam off into ultra speed. She looked at the ground and hoped she would pass the whale pod again. She loved her animal friends. She looked up after she heard a whale call. She saw a small shape appear and it called again. This time it was alone. No pod.
"Hello, little one." Cleo said, she petted the little baby gently. She then recognized the whale. It was the baby she had seen before! She looked at the baby with sympathy.
"Oh no! Where is your mother?" she said with sadness. She looked around the baby whale. No mother in sight. "Maybe she went North! That is where whales migrate!" she exclaimed. " you may come with me!" she said happily. "Come on, this way." she said, louring the whale forward. It followed. "Good, that's it. Now, keep up." she said.
The whale followed Cleo in their Northern expedition. Cleo swam fast -- not to fast for the whale --. The night came and Cleo and the whale fell asleep on the sandy ocean floor.

Cleo awoke to find that the whale was still beside her, floating. "Good morning ... uh... what shall I call you?" she asked. She thought hard for a while."It must be a nice name for a nice whale, and a brave name! It must be a playful name! One that you don't forget!" she said. "Gialia!" she finally said after thinking for a while. "It means youthful! And you are youthful." she said.
Gialia swam to the surface and blew water out of the hole on the top of her head. She swam back down to her friend and circled her with delight.
"I know! It does sound wonderful!" Cleo laughed. She remembered her duties, and how important they were. "Okay, come, Gialia, we must get this letter to Northern pod. Then we must find your mother." she said calmly before she swam forward. She knew she would Gialia, but she knew she was too young to be away from it.
Cleo swam forward until she was freezing cold, the water over top of her was frozen solid, and she could barely make out mermaids in the distance. "Gialia, look!" she said excitedly, before racing off, Gialia behind her. "Greetings from Southern pod. I am Cleo, this month's deliverer." she straightly. She looked at the matriarch, who seemed fairly young.
"Yes, hello." the mermaid said. "We welcome you."
Cleo handed her the scroll.
"Wonderful." she said, reading over the scroll. "Molly, see that this mermaid gets the best bed we have." she ordered, just like Samantha had said.
A beautiful mermaid nodded quickly and swam over to Cleo. "Hello, I am Molly, second in command. What is your name?" she asked.
"I am Cleo." Cleo replied kindly.
"Well, Cleo, follow me." she said, just like Mari. After she swam forward she spoke up. "I know our waters are colder. I will get you a blanket quickly so you don't hypothermia!" she said, before grabbing a leather blanket and wrapping it around Cleo. "There." she said.
"Th-thank you." Cleo shivered.
"We have already had dinner, but here is your's." she said, handing a small bowl wooden bowl. Inside was shrimp.
Cleo ate quickly and was escorted to an ice-burg. Knowing she would catch a cold if they hadn't, the northern mermaids and mermen and put together a large blanket and lied it on the ice burg. Cleo lied on it, it was soft and thick and warm. Cleo soon fell asleep.
