War
I see, I see the rain falling down,
And the men ahead collapsing to the ground,
I see, I see bullets flying through the air,
And cutting through the bush.
I hear, I hear the sound of guns,
The sound of the thundering rain on the ground,
I hear, I hear the captain's battle cries,
And the sound of many a men's final breath.
I smell, I smell the wet soft mud,
And the smell of death and of decay,
I smell, I smell fire and ashes,
And gunpowder from freshly fired guns.
I feel, I feel the rain on my skin,
As it bites and chills me to the bone,
I feel, I feel the soft wet mud beneath my feet,
And the men around me pushing forwards into battle.
I taste, I taste the death in the air,
Of the men lying dead all around me,
I taste, I taste the blood in my mouth,
As a bullet cuts straight through my chest.
I fall, I fall down to the ground,
And land with a silent thud,
I fall, I fall into the mud,
And I know that my time will soon be up.
I see, I see others fall around me,
Men I knew who were friends of mine,
I see, I see the end of battle,
The enemy has won and we are no more.
