... Do we dare go after that which we do not fully understand..

...Or do we hide from it...

...Do we fight to protect...

...Or do we fight to kill...

...Do we live...

...Or do we survive...

"......" Silence seemed to thicken the air as a young unicorn colt sat beside his windowsill, staring out at the rain, a dead look in his darkened gold eyes. Suddenly, a loud clash of thunder echoed through the dark grey sky, sending a shiver down the colt's spine "I... I wish I wasn't so... So alone..." he whispered, tears coming to his eyes and sliding down his cheeks as he glanced back at the nearly empty room. The room was dark, with a wooden floor and old white walls. The only furniture was a desk and an old bed, with nothing more on it than a pillow and a blanket. He had been alone for a year now, since the day that his grandmother, the only family he had left, died. Closing his eyes as a flash of lightning struck, he decided to focus more on the imaginary friend he had created to keep him company "... You'll be grey... Like the sky... But you'll have soft grey blue eyes... Almost like a faint glimmer of the blue sky during a storm... And you'll be... You'll be a princess, my princess... My best friend..." he murmured, not noticing the faint glow of his horn as he continued to murmur about his princess "... You'll be shy, like me... But fun too, so that we can play games together... You'll have a temper, but you'll also be loyal and smart... You'll be brave too..." he finished, his horn glowing even brighter than before "And you'll be named after Grandmommy... And daddy... You'll be... Fableknite.." that's when the colt's horn burst with magic, sending out sparks of bright light. The colt closed his eyes and shielded himself from the blinding light, and once the light faded, he slowly opened them to find a young alicorn laying there, as though asleep. "F-Fableknite..?" he whispered, cautiously making his way over to the mare. The alicorn slowly opened her eyes and looked up at the colt "... Hello..." she murmured, smiling a bit. Fableknite tried to get up to go over to the colt, whom she knew as her Master and creator, but couldn't due to her weak legs. "I-I am sorry, Master... But I am too--" she was cut off as the young colt hugged her, tears running down his face "I-I'm no longer alone... I'm... I'm so happy.." he sobbed, holding her closer. Fableknite smiled gently and hugged him back "... Don't worry... I'll never leave you alone again... We'll always be together alright..?" she murmured, before they both curled up next to each other and fell asleep to the sound of rain gently hitting the roof.

There was the gentle sound of rain hitting the ground as a young changeling made her way down to ponyville, holding a bundle of blankets in her teeth as she carried something of much importance to her. Although the changeling was young, she looked as though she had lived many lifetimes, and had grown more beaten and battered with each passing day. As she entered ponyville, she slipped on some mud and ended up collapsing on the soaked ground and sending the bundle of blankets flying. The changeling mother's eyes widened as she quickly got up and stumbled over to the bundle, only to find it's contents asleep as though nothing had happened. The changeling let out a shaky sigh of relief, before moving much more carefully toward the orphanage. Just as she was about to knock on the door, she leaned down to the little bundle and murmured "... I'm sorry, my daughter... But I cannot care... Cannot care for such as yourself... I wish for you to have a good... A good life... One... One without me.." she murmured, before knocking on the door and stumbling off, leaving the little filly there alone. Though something strange happened just as the orphanage door was about to be opened. The young changeling seemed to change as her monstrous features dissolved, leaving a baby grey pegasus in her place. The door opened, and an elderly pony came out, noticing the child right away and quickly bringing inside after looking around, as though curious as to what had happened to the mother. The next day, the elderly pony known as Leader, went out for a stroll; and what she found would stay with her for life. The nearly dead body of a Changeling. Leader would have galloped off right then in fear had it not been for the weak voice of the changeling calling out to her "P-Please... Take care... My daughter.." the creature kept repeating. Leader stared down at the changeling, before nodding "... I will..." and with those two words, a look of peace washed over the changeling's face as she let out her final breath as the sun rose up over the mountains far off, setting the sky ablaze with bright colors of gold and orange as it did so. Leader sighed and turned away from the dead changeling, about to head back to her orphanage when she was suddenly slammed down by something large. Looking up in fear, she saw a male changeling glaring down at her "Where is my daughter?!" he demanded. He looked, different, from other changelings. More detailed, and upon his head sat a crown. For he was the prince of changelings, the only son of Queen Chrysalis. Leader gasped for air, before glaring up at him "I-I don't... I don't know.." she replied, trying not to sound desperate as she did so. The prince grinned and hissed in her ear "Then you are useless, pony..." he said gently, before backing away from the elderly mare and pulling out a dagger. Leader flinched and tried to get up, but her old bones would not allow her. Just as the dagger was about to hit her, a loud cry came out from behind them. There stood a couple soldiers, spears at the ready. The changeling prince hesitated, before backing away "... I know you have her, pony... And I will return for my heir... But for now, I will go.." he chuckled a bit, before galloping off, the soldiers on his tail. Leader slowly got up, trying to catch her breath, before going quickly back to the orphanage to check on the child. When she returned, the filly was still fast asleep. Leader debated turning the little princess in to Celestia, but thought better of it when the little filly blinked open her eyes and looked up at Leader, giggling softly and reaching up to the elderly mare, calling out 'Mama' as she did so. Leader sighed gently and put on a gentle smile as she picked up the filly and murmured "... You will grow up as a normal pegasus... May you never have to learn of your past, or what you are... Little Sk8..."
