Okay guys, question time.

How many important characters do you think an author can kill in one book/series without it being ridiculous? Some authors never let a single character die, despite all odds, and others... Well, others wrote Game of Thrones.

I think killing off around 2-3 is OK for a little pep, if something big happens, then maybe 3-4, if it's a slow paced, low action one, then about 1 would be fine, maybe even 2.
Main characters? I think if there is more than one main character it'd be fine to have one die.

Thanks for the ideas guys! I really like them! I think I'll be about to piece together my own idea from them ^^ I'll still credit you for the plot idea suggestion though xD

honestly, i believe that at least one character needs to die or be seriously injured to make a book relatable. i don't like the "surviving despite all odds" thing. although, i tend to kill my main at the end of the story, so maybe that's just me.
to prevent fanfiction, you know?

Hmm, well, if you've ever read warriors, you know you can kill a lot. If they are just kinda like a backround character, it doesn't matter too much but it still adds emotion and twists to the story. When just about every good character dies or is killed off, that's when it gets annoying!

|If there isn't at least one death in a book, I won't really find it that interesting. They get to la di da, for me. And something that really irritates me is when authors make mary sue characters. Designed after them. I get that they might want to escape from their actual life by writing, just don't publish the book. Nobody is perfect. Then again, some characters actually fit into that category well.|

I agree. Oh dear, do I agree!
There have been SO many books/stories I've read that have amazing plots, but
the author just kills it. Whether it be because there are Mary or Gary Sue characters, or no deaths, or grammar mistakes, or whatever, it just kills me.
From now until the summer, I will not be coming on CS as much as I used to. If I have adopted from your adopt, please PM me. I am trying to give most of them back (look below). HOWEVER, I WILL STILL PARTICIPATE IN RPS. I love them too much! <3

Hey-I'm giving away most of my chars. If you're interested in one of them please PM me! Also, most are going to be FCFS.

NOTE: I AM NOW SEMI-QUITTING! BE SURE TO ADOPT SOME OF MY PETS!!!
Also, if anybody has a Malk dragon they are willing to trade...I really, really want at least one, and I'm willing to overpay.

I really want to start writing a book, but I don't know where to start! How do I create an entire BOOK out of one plot? I might be able to but sometimes I can't think of anything so it just lags on. How do I prevent this?

believe it or not, read! i've written books of over 200,000 words before, and the best way to do it is to read. a lot. the more you read, the more ideas pop up and stew in your mind. also, keep a small notepad with you. write down interesting things, like people, places, or events or ideas. ouo

I don't think you should jump into entire books if you're not ready. Start by completing short stories. Once you get experience fleshing out a plot for a short story and sticking with that story through the whole writing process, then you can start thinking about whole novels. But that's definitely something you work up to.

I feel like I am ready, like I've written probably 100's of short stories and completed them, but they are all lost at the dump or turned into some recycled item by now
Hmm. I think I have a cool way of finding a plot so lets see if this works, if it does I'll let you all know.
