meet susan mandy trander, your stereotypical miss popular. she is now sixteen years of age. susie was born and raised in coalwood, west virginia. her father is the mine's top engineer and her mother the picturesque domestic woman. it's a very traditional family that susie was raised in. they go to church every sunday, the parents and susie and her older brother jack; keep to themselves, aren't loud neighbors, don't have a dog to walk and pee over everyone's lawn. by all appearances they are perfect. and mother and father and jack must think so too, because they keep up this charade even in their own home. but susie isn't perfect and knows it. sure, everyone at school knows her name. sure, she is kind and smart and sweet. but there's only so much susie can do with that, and she can't make a decision to save her life. she knows what her options are. study hard and get into college. or just... don't. give up these unreachable dreams and become a housewife like her mother. thing is, susie doesn't know what to choose. it would break her parent's hearts if she left coalwood on some sort of scholarship she probably won't even get. after all, susie is smart, but her brother is the one with the pure genius. the odds of him getting out are much better than hers. this is her home anyways. here, she has an assured future, unlike how she would struggle so in the outside world. having her role here set both attracts and appalls susie. she wants to have a future that doesn't need worrying. but then again, she doesn't want to marry some miner just because. and though susie has not yet voiced these thoughts to her family, she knows where they will stand. her father would be horrified. he never changes his mind. her mother would also be horrified, but give a little wink to show her pride. susie's mother had always been unable to cross her husband's judgements, remaining a very weak presence in the household. [that's what susie is afraid will happen to her - become some boring, domestic woman with nary a thought for anything else.] her brother? jack will be her stalwart supporter. he's always looked after susie, as she is one of those that needs looking after. susie's friends? some of them will be okay; others, not so much. but susie values public opinion a lot more greatly than she should. she also has a tendency to be a bit self-centered, something easily recognizable in a so-called "popular". to sum it all up? susie is a girl who doesn't know what to do with herself.

ms. nadia riddle. she's the twin sister of aidan, obvious due to her parents who were clearly not in their right minds when they named her nadia, and her older brother aidan. see the similarities? she feels quite passionately about her name, more so about her surname. riddle would be the dead giveaway that she and aidan were not from the most respected of families. so she goes by her mother's name, barn. it's innocent enough, if a little plain for nadia's tastes. and aren't those tastes a bit picky? at only eleven she's kind of spoiled, but only if you know her well. on the outside she appears much more caring and considerate; something easily presentable and defendable. nadia is neither outgoing nor socially averse. rather, she'll talk to someone to make herself look included. it's commonly agreed that her heart is in the right place, but a lot of her personality is still unknown; it's common for her to surprise both her twin brother and herself. but here's one thing she isn't - a hardcore ravenclaw. so why is that house the one she calls home? it's scary simple, actually. nadia was so scared of being recognized for what she was [a slytherin] she tricked herself into a ravenclaw. since she can speak parseltongue, it's good that she can pass as an eagle superficially. nadia is smart, but hates books in general. it's just not her thing. her skills lie in powerful wandwork, just like her brother. her wand itself [ash, pheonix feather, ten point five inches] is your typical ollivander make. but in nadia's hands it can turn into something even more than that - it's her own uncontrollable power manifesting itself in the form of some incredible magic. and though she wouldn't admit it to anyone, especially her overprotective brother, it terrifies her. nadia would much rather blend in and be normal than stick out of the crowd.

he has always had a lot weighing him down, has always come with that extra baggage people hate oh so much. it's a history of legal battles between parents who loathe each other that has left him this way, unable to do anything with his own problems other then give them to someone else. when seth meets someone sympathetic he can't help but unload at least a little on them. their issues have always seemed inconsequential to him. and he's learned to look out for himself. no one seemed to value him as he was, a person. his parent fought over him [in his opinion] simply to one-up the other. seth's father won, but he's always away, and so the fact that seth is nothing more than a trophy only reinforces this feeling of abandonment. seth's young age at the beginning didn't help either. it's hard for him to trust, and love, and be anyone or anything. but there are always people who slip through the cracks. seth's cynical attitude somehow didn't turn her away. and he reciprocated how she acted, grew to love her. except old habits die hard. it was difficult for seth to stop using her simply as someone to rant to. sometimes she never even got a word in edgewise. he's tried to improve upon this; after all, you can only have a good pity party for so long, and his has been going on for over ten years. even with care, he sometimes slips and just rants. he tries not to do it, because he knows it makes her feel inconsequential. like he doesn't care when really, he does; when she might be the only person he does care about.

rambunctious - the first word that'll pop into your head when you meet teri is "hyper". the girl bounces off walls with a sort of inner energy that makes her such a fierce chaser. she's popular and friendly, willing to give a second chance to those she feels deserve it.
chivalrous - teri has a sense of right and wrong, and she'll follow it to the end. it's very hard to sway her from her morals - whether they be flawed or not. this moral compass of hers doesn't exactly apply to her friends, with whom she's kind of the tease. no, it only really takes effect for those who she sees as inferior to herself. teri tends to take pity on them. for the person in question, this can be quite demeaning, and so she has a habit of offending people by accident by simply labeling them as weak.
competitive - give her a challenge, and teri will follow through. you telling her she can't do something is almost a personal affront to this high-minded teen. it's so serious, in fact, that teri won't even stop to consider the consequences of her actions. she lives in the present, and she lives for the rush of adrenaline that comes from a challenge. that's why she's in gryffindor. and that's why she plays quidditch.
flighty - she doesn't stop to think. ever. sure, teri's actually pretty intelligent. it's just that she can't be counted on for things that don't interest her. since this is pretty much every class, her grades suffer as a result. and as for friends, teri's got a whole horde of them. and the fact that she's forgetful doesn't help - she isn't close to any of them, and can't remember their names most of the time.
