I glanced out the window and sunk down in the leather seat of Dalila's old car. She had bought it from a junk yard and her uncle fixed it up. We walked to school to save gas money mostly. Dalila said she needed the exercise too but as skinny as a twig.
It had started to rain slightly and I watched it hit against the wind shield while Derek and Dalila fought over something. Derek had come I guess to make sure I went through with buying all this stuff. I was still trying to adjust to the fact I just might be assassinated.
"So Astella, where should we start shopping? I have so many ideas for your new wardrobe it's crazy." Dalila smiled over at me before turning her attention back to the road. I just shrugged, pulling away from my thoughts and sat up, giving her my attention.
"Let's just do this fast, I can tell you are going to be annoying as hell the entire time." Derek muttered from the back seat, moving his thumbs across his phones screen.
"You really didn't have to come." Dalila snapped back at him. Derek looked up with a big grin on his angered face.
"Oh I think I did, you and you give year old brain might get lost." He smirked looking back down at his phone. I noticed Dalila's grip tighten on the steering wheel as she pulled into the mall parking lot, she kept quiet but I could only imagine what she was thinking.

After around an hour walking, arguing, and managing to get me into clothes, we made it out alive with twelve bags and one small one with the hair dye inside. Dalila wouldn't let me see the color of the dye, she wanted it to be a surprise. I was guessing it was blond or something. Derek glanced around the parking lot anxiously before we got to the car. We all climbed inside and Dalila started to pull out if the mall parking lot.
"Don't you love what I picked out?" Dalila asked with a smile, she glanced over at me for only a second before looking back at the road, it was begining to get dark now since it takes a half an hour to get to the mall and we didn't leave until four in the afternoon. I nodded and smiled.
"Yeah, I love all of it. What about you Derek, do you like them?" I looked at Derek through the rear view mirror, needing his approval that it would be a good cover up. Derek looked up at me with a soft gaze and nodded as if to tell me I would be alright.
"Yeah, I think it suits you." He gave me one last look before looking out the window again. I sighed softly and sunk down in the passengers seat. Dalila stopped the car at a stop light and took her eyes off the road for a second. I noticed the rim of a jet black jeep speeding towards us.
I had one good second to react. I sat up and screamed Dalila's name for her to move out of the way but it was too late. The jeep had already had full impact on the car, head on. Dalila's car flipped over and for a second I was in mid air. The car landed upside down and skidded a few more feet before coming to a stop. I waited, waited for the shock to come and I would pass out. It never came. I heard other cars skidding to a stop next to us, people screaming.
Dalila was struggling against her car door which seemed to have pinned her leg against the seat. Dalila yelled out in pain. I felt the blood rushing to my head an snapped out of whatever daze I was in. I was still upside down since the seatbelt strapped me to the seat. I unbuckled and let myself fall on the top of the car. Derek crawled over to me, blood trickling down the side of his face.
"Are you alright?" He asked me worried.
"I'm fine, just a few scratches." I insisted, Derek tried to reach out to me to wipe the blood from my nose and the gash above my head but I pushed his hand away and moved over to Dalila.
"Are you okay?" I asked nervously. Dalila's breath was shallow and quick.
"I'm fine, but my legs pinned to something and I can't get it out." Dalila whimpered. I nodded and examined where she was pinned. I couldn't find a way out for her . But now was really not the time to delay, the jeep had driven away and I knew this was no accident. It was another murder attempt for me. I felt my heart pound in my chest, I brought Dalila into this.
I took a deep breath and let myself focus. I looked more thoroughly and noticed something. It was her shoe! The bottom of her sneaker was stuck.
"Dalila, get your foot out of your shoe." I told her, she nodded and did as instructed then both Derek and I pulled her out of the seat. Derek looked her over but nothing seemed to be wrong.
"We need to get out of this car, now." Derek told us. I knew why he was so urgent. Yes, the jeep had driven away but it might come back to kill us off if they find out we survived. I nodded and tried to open my door but it was jammed shut.
"The window!" Dalila though up quickly. She pulled off her jacket and wrapped it around her elbow before smashing through the glass. She smiled back at us then crawled through. I crawled through after her, wincing slightly and a new cut from the broken glass on my arm.
The lights were really bright I had to squint my eyes and let my vision adjust. Sirens blared down the street and people standing outside their cars. Police cars and ambulance trucks began to arrive. I noticed Derek standing rather close to me, looking around the crowd of people and cars. He seemed nervous. Medics arrived around us, one woman was shining a bright light in my eyes.
"I'm fine!" I insisted, pushing away her hand. No matter what I did these people wouldn't leave me alone. Kept saying I was in shock or something. I kept trying to get away from them but they kept doing tests.
Finally they took the three of us to the hospital. I thought it was silly because I knew we were all fine. I started to pull the shards of glass out of my hair. This is the second time I've been to the hospital twice in a month. The whole idea that I could be killed at any moment freaked me out a little. But one thing was for sure, I had to be brave. For Derek and Jared and the other hybrid, for Dalila, for my mother, and for Violet.
