I glanced over at Derek for a small moment then stood from the table and walked over to Kayla, who handed me the envelope then walked back to her room. The small, pearl white paper was creased finely and my name written in fine cursive hand writing. There was also a thick, red, ink stamp in the top right hand corner. I couldn't exactly make out what it was but I decided I would figure out later. A hand was placed on my shoulder, making me jump and drop the envelope.
"I'm sorry." A deep husky voice said into my ear. I turned quickly remembering the man who had shot my shoulder but my muscles relaxed seeing it was only Derek. he glanced down at his phone and picked up the envelope for me. "Why don't you get some rest in my bed? You're pale as a ghost and your cheeks are hollow." He gently placed a hand on my cheek and I looked down, trying to hide the bright red blush rushing to my face unaffectedly. It was obvious he could tell because he looked down at me smirking.
I pulled away from his warm hand and started to walk quickly down the stairs, not looking back at him. I turned the knob to Derek's door and slammed it shut. I didn't like this, the way I felt around him. My face got hot and I softened up when he spoke to me. Softened as if I was talking to Violet. I hadn't felt that way around anyone else, it was weird.
A slightly shy knock on the wooden door distracted me from my thoughts. I timidly walked over to answer it, gently placing my hand on the cold door knob. I turned it quickly and pulled open the door, afraid of what might be behind it. All I saw was Jared standing in front of me, a bright smile plastered on his face. In his hand he held a small basket with clean bandages, infection cream, and some rubbing alcohol. I looked at up at him and raised an eye brow questioningly.
Derek came in right after him, shutting the door behind him and locking the door. Derek and Jared both looked around the room, their hands searching for something. I sat back down on the bed and watched them, unsure of what they were doing.
"Looks like they didn't place any bugs while they were here. That's good." Jared muttered the last part, sitting next to me and holding his head in his hands. "So you're the final hybrid, huh? The one we've been looking for. Three years we've been looking for you." Jared smiled at me but I said nothing, just stared at him with my eyes narrowed. I wanted more answers, more than what I had gotten last night. Jared noticed and looked down, looking hurt. Regret filled my expression and I looked away as well.
"Okay, let's get down to business. I'm guessing you know Astella, Jared?" Derek asked him. Jared looked up at him and nodded, standing up. He shot me an uncomfortable glance which made me begin to mess with the beds comforter. Derek raised an eye brow at me but seemed to shrug it off.
"So Astella, after you were shot I found a fourth man who must have gotten a good look at your face. I was too late and he had gotten away before I could do anything." Derek began, sighing softly at his defeat.
"Basically you need to change." Jared added, short and simple. I narrowed my eyes slightly and looked over at Derek.
"What do you mean I need to change? So what if someone saw me? People see me everyday." I thought about my words for a second. Well, people didn't really see me, just kind of walked past. I ignored it and pulled my thoughts back to me.
"Your appearance. Their main priority is now to kill you. You are the weakest because you have had no training at all. And if one of the four hybrids does it makes the other three weaker and more vulnerable." Derek explained to me. This but of news shocked me. Great, now I have a bunch if people after me to kill me. I sighed, taking it all in.
"So what do I need to change?" I asked, my voice quiet with nerves and I looked down. Derek shrugged and thought a moment.
"Hair color, clothing style, eye color." Derek gently took a handful of my hair in his hand like he was getting one last like look at it. I felt a slight rush when he touched my hair and felt my cheeks getting a little warm. Jared tossed a huge wad of money next to me, interrupting the moment.
"No time to waste, ask your friend if she wants to go shopping." Jared mumbled grumpily, shoving his hands in his pockets. I gathered the money up and held it tight. I had never had held so much money in my hand in my life. I glanced at him then stood, walking out of the room and up stairs. Dalila was sitting in the living room, sitting on the couch when I walked up to her.
"Dalila, I need a new look. I just think this is too old." I told her. She looked at me and her face brightened up. I would be Dalila's Barbie doll for the rest of the day.
