I reached the top of the stairs and made a sharp turn into the living room but my socks slid on the carpet and I fell in my side. I winced in pain as I landed on my bad shoulder but just shrugged it off. I just sat there in the dark if the room then heard foot steps running up the stairs and Derek sighed when he saw me sitting there. He slowly made his way closer to me and I scooted away slightly, pulling my knees to my chest and hugging them tightly.
"Astella, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean it. Well, I did, but I didn't mean to scare you off." Derek looked onto my eyes but I stayed silent. Something about the kiss made me ache for another one. I really wasn't looking for a relationship or anything but he seemed so irresistible I got lost in his sea green eyes.
"Astella?" Derek whispered quietly. Quickly and without thinking, I pulled myself closer to him by gripping his grey v-neck in my hands and pressing my lips against his soft ones. I could tell he was surprised but I just squeezed my eyes shut and waited for him to do something.
Instead of pulling away awkwardly he snaked his arms around me tight and pulled me so close that I was basically sitting on his lap. I ran my fingers gently through his hair and felt time just slow down in his arms. Derek pulled away slightly, letting his lips brush gently against mine making me tremble slightly.
"I thought you weren't ready for this." He teased, pressing his forehead against mine and opening his beautiful green eyes to meet mine.
"Well, you're very tempting." I murmured back, a teasing smile on my face. Derek chuckled and lay down on the ground, setting me down with him. I rested my head gently and felt his heart pounding against my ear. I smiled and shut my eyes. Derek started to play with my braid and then gently shook my shoulder.
"Would you like to sleep on the floor or would you like to sleep in my bed?" Derek asked me with a smile forming on his face. I smirked back at him and nodded.
"A bed would be nice." I giggled. Derek stood up and fixated me in his arms before carrying me down stairs, I held onto his neck tightly, praying he wouldn't drop me on the stairs. I knew he wouldn't but I had to be sure he wouldn't. He opened the door and lay me down in the bed before crawling in himself. I rested my head back on his chest, I liked the sound if his heart beating. He kept me close to him, keeping me warm since the cold outside seemed unbearable. Derek brushed some hair from my face and stared into my eyes smiling down at me.
"We leave for the training academy tomorrow with Jared and the other hybrid who's flying out here and driving with us so we can stick together. But it's all the way in California and we have to drive. It will be a long trip." Derek told me, his smile disappeared now. He was hoping I wouldn't chicken out like I had before. I nodded and looked back up at him.
"Who's the fourth hybrid?" I ask him curiously. I mean, if we were going to be keeping each other safe, I at least wanted to know his/her name.
"Her names Raleigh Winston." He told me everything I needed to know about her. She was the survival hybrid, she was from New York and she wasn't very fond of me for some reason.
"Why doesn't she like me?" I asked him. I didn't know the girl and she already hated me, I guessed a first impression was out of the question.
"I don't know, just whenever we mentioned you she got defensive and would suggest we just forget about you and work alone. I guess it's because you're more powerful then she will ever be. And she liked being the only girl in the group so she could show off." Derek explained to me. I nodded in understanding and I knew Raleigh and I would never be close friend like Dalila and I. Inlet out a small yawn and cuddled closer to Derek, slowly drifting off into sleep. I was leaving everything, I needed to be a different person, someone I know hates me, and I just kissed someone I never expected to be with. This day was wrapping up nicely.
