This is the official thread for my story Of the Night - following the tale of Kali, a pet on CS. To us, Chicken Smoothie is a virtual website, but to her, it is very, very real. She faces a dangerous world where she is enslaved and traded from one owner to another, where fellow pets end up in the Pound for months, the streets full of criminals, and even animals have their own rivalries.

This glossary includes all characters mentioned so far in the book. Some pets I do not own, and I gifted them to users, and am currently following their paths through trades and working that into my story. I am not and never will plan to post links to them, because I don't want their owners to feel like I'm talking about them in a bad way, which I'm definitely not. All pets mentioned are real pets on CS that do exist right now, and that I have links to personally.

Please do not send me trade for these pets.

The place reeked of familiarity. I had, indeed, been here before. The murmurs of people carried through the chilled air of the night, still bargaining, whispering, discussing. The cobblestone streets were well-worn with the padding paws of dogs, weary from the long journey through the streets of Chicken Smoothie. Buildings towered above us, mansions among tiny shacks, the many stores looking forlorn with darkened windows.

I had learned to be cautious of this place, and I felt exposed, like I might fall into the expansive sky above me.

I had not yet passed judgement upon my newest owner. She was not as intimidating as some, nor as adoring as many of the others I have had. She wore a simple purple gown made of a soft, silken fabric, and a hooded cloak that shadowed her face. Though many that lived here adorned themselves with bangles and jewelry, she wore only a golden chain tight about her neck, and a ringlet that rested on her hair.

"Just around the corner," she muttered in a tight voice, leading me onwards.

As we reached the end of the street, a figure approached us, leading a palomino horse, who pawed impatiently at the ground. "Is that a Black Advent you've got there?" the woman asked frantically.

"Yes, but I'm not interested in trading her," my owner said shortly.

"Are you sure? I've got a horse here, of excellent condition - you won't find many like her, Queen."

"I said I'm not interested. It took me long enough to find her."

I had heard the conversation often before. They always insisted that they would never give me away, and eventually they did. It was unlikely I would stay here for long. My owner - the woman had called her Queen - began to walk briskly, her dress flowing behind her, and down the next avenue we went. At the very end rested a small cottage, painted white, with no decorations of any sort. I eyed it warily. I had no trust for my new owner, nor had I any respect for any of the citizens of Chicken Smoothie. Here, you fended for yourself, though in the end, we had no choices, no freedoms.

She opened the front door.

I had to go in.
