You open it, skip the first few pages, and start to read.

Chapter1- Family and Friends
Book1

I open my eyes for the first time and I can see my mother's face. "Hello, my pup." she says in a soft tone. I try to walk over to her but my legs are too wobbly. I bark "Momma?" and again. "Momma?!" "Momma! Momma! Momma!" my brothers, sisters, and I start to protest. "Alright kids, settle down or master will hear you." she says while bathing my youngest brother. "Master?" he tilts his head. "What's a master, momma?"

Mother looks down at him. "Oh, well... Master is our.. er.. human. They take care of us like I take care of you." My siblings and I all look at each other. "Human?" I question. "Yes. A human." mother replies. I wiggle my wrinkly tail and giggle. "What's a human?" The door to the closet opens and a two-legged giant walks in. It picks up my sister and she starts to cry. "Momma, help me momma, help me!" she whimpers. "It's alright sweety, they're not trying to hurt you." mother gets up and licks the giant's five fingered paw. The giants mumble gibberish among themselves.
"What are they saying momma?" I ask. "Well, I think they're naming her." I get up fast. "I'll save you sister!" I stumble across the room and gnaw on the giant's feet. It bends down and swoops me up. "Milly, look at this one. She's a little toughie. What shall we call her?" he hands me over to a smaller giant. "She's the cutest puppy ever, look at her curly ears! She looks like a pure bred." the little girl exclaims. She places me in between her arms on my back and rubs my belly with her paws. It feels good, I become relaxed. "She is a pure bred, Milly. Pure spaniel blood." he scratches my head softly with his long fingers. "Let's call her Roxxi." she looks up at the bigger giant. This was the first time I ever heard my name, Roxxi. Of course, I hadn't known it at the time. The bigger giant patted me on the head and placed both me and my sister back on the floor, just in time for dinner.

And the story begins.

I am bigger now and no longer with my mother. I have a my own humans now. That brown haired, green eyed, little boy sitting on the couch is my master, his name is Johnny, and that puppy that's eating out of my bowl is- "Wait a second, Rocky, that's my bowl." I push him out the way. "Yea, so?" he grumbles. "You have your own bowl in the Living Room." I look towards the sofa where his blue bowl is. "It's empty." he growls. I place my body over the bowl. "What?" I slide my bowl to the side and move towards him forcing him to move back. "So you eat mine?" "Move out of the way, you overgrown chihuahua." he snaps at me. "This food is mine now!" he continues to be annoying, but I learned how to block him out. I sigh, letting him pass through. "I don't feel like arguing with a puppy, you can never win." I jump onto the couch, staring blank into the moving box. He's under a lot of stress, being new and all. I should be showing him who's boss but I'd rather let him humor me

My master sits by me with a sandwich in his hand. Rocky immediately runs over "Can I have some?" Rocky whimpers. "He won't give you any. That's the rule. There's no use in begging." I put my head on Johnny's lap. Johnny bends over and gives Rocky a piece of ham. "Wait, Johnny, I want a piece" I jump off the couch and make my eyes big and adorable. (He loves when I do that) Johnny hands me the rest of his sandwich and Rocky snatches it out of his hands. "No Rocky!" Johnny scolds him. Rocky pouts and Johnny grabs Rocky by the collar and brings him outside to the dog house. Oh great, that's what he gets. I watch him through the window. He is whining and whimpering, struggling to get off of the leash. I was never sent to the dog house for any bad reasons...I sorta kinda felt bad for him. I walked outside through the mini door. "Hey Rocky." I wag my tail a bit but he doesn't answer. "Need help?" I laid on the outside of the doghouse every now and then I sratched my ear with my back leg."I don't need anybody's help, not from you, and especially not from a human!" he yaps at me, still tugging the leash. "I just thought you might want to go on a walk." he looks up at me. "In the rain?" "Why not" I chuckle.

"You're lying." Rocky sits down facing away from me. His tiny tail is hidden under him and his folded ears lay low. "Why would I be lying?" I nipped his ear. Rocky sniffles. "Because you hate me, and so does Johnny." I gasps in my mind. I had no idea, the poor thing probably misses his family. I had the same feeling when I was first adopted. I sat beside him. "I don't hate you and neither does Johnny. You're like a brother to me. And for Johnny, why would he have adopted you if he didn't love you?" I pull his collar off from his neck. "Come on, let's go on a walk." Rocky hops out from the dog house. "Yippee!" he skips across the yard and straight to the door of the gate. "Hurry up Roxxi! Quick, before master sees us!" he slips through a hole I dug a while ago and waits patiently. It takes a few minutes for me to get through since I am so much bigger than him but I manage. We both run straight onto the sidewalk and race each other to the park. I let him win, of course. After we sat by the fountain together and chased the squirrels we simply got exhausted from all the exercise and decide to take the shortcut home. On the train tracks.

Rocky and I frolicked and stopped at every moving object, as if we were hunting prey. Suddenly, we heard a long siren coming our way. I looked back and it's a train. "Move to the side Rocky!" he jumped off of the train tracks and landed on the floor safely. I tried to get to the other side, the last thing I saw was a light appear as the train came closer. Rocky yelled out my name but I couldn't answer him. I was in the illusion that I was falling when I woke up. Rocky was crying as I laid in between the train tracks. "It's okay Rocky, I'm alright, see? I looked down and saw my body lying there, lifeless. I was in complete horror. I went to grab onto Rocky but my paw went through him. The train came to a hault and a human walked out. He was as in much shock as me.. He ran over to us. All I could think was about Johnny and Rocky. I didn't feel ready yet. The human placed his hand on my neck.. Then his head on my chest.... No. "I'm sorry boy." He grabbed Rocky and checked the number on his collar. I can't believe it. I'm dead. "Rocky, if you can-... Well, you can't hear me.. So.. I'm just going to apologize for everything... Take care of Johnny for me." Just then I felt a paw on my shoulder. I turned to see who it was.

"Mother?" I said aloud, feeling oddly comfortable. "Hello Roxxie." She stilled looked like I had remembered. Her fur was always long and healthy. "I'm dead mother..." I lowered my head and sighed. I watched as the man picked up Rocky and called my humans. She nuzzled me. "Would you like to stay here for a little? Your sister and I are waiting.." I looked up at her.. "Susanne is dead too?" My ears are the ones that lowered this time. My mother licked my cheek and turned away. The whole scene changed. We were in heaven. It had to be. There were golden doghouses placed on the softest clouds. Oh, and I'm flying. I looked down at my feet. Susanne, my youngest sibling was right beside me. "I saw." she said. I whimpered a little. I was really curious, "What happened to you?" I asked. She smiled. "Not long after I was adopted, I was diagnosed with Carcinomas, it's a type of cancer." I didn't know what to say so I didn't say anything. "Hey, Roxxie." I turned and saw nothing. "Umm... Down here." I looked down and saw Gordon, Johnny's Guinnea Pig. "Gordon?!?!" "Why are you shocked? You came to my funeral!" He sounded a little insulted. "Oh. Sorry." He chuckled and floated into a sack of sunflower seeds.

"Roxxie, you're gonna like it here. I know it." My mother was skipping in mid air. I saw an unfamiliar face running right next to her. Both of them looked at each other and stopped. "Wait a second." My mother started towards me. "You haven't met your father yet?" I tilted my head. He was a tall well-built German Shepard. My sister laughed historically. "Look at her face." She says. "Stop Susanne." My mother growls. It became quiet for a second. "I thought I was a purebred..." I said with disappointment. My sister giggles. "That's just what they said to get us adopted!" I am still really confused. I don't know how to make sense into all of this. "Am I dreaming?" I begin to question myself. "No, of course you're not." My sister butts in. "Would a dream be this good?" She smirks.

I felt my back being rubbed and when I looked up I was back at the train tracks. Johnny held my limp body. I could feel his tears run down his face and onto me. Behind him was a sad Rocky snuggled up against Johnny's mother. I was heart broken. I wanted to have been able to just look at him and tilt my head to make him stop crying like I used to. I wanted to lay in his bed and hog his blankets, wake him up in the morning for school, and pull him on his skateboard... I just wanted to be with him. I cuddled up next to him as if he could feel me. I whimpered and whined, wishing he could hear me but he never did. After a few hours of mourning Johnny's parents brought him back home with Rocky. I sat by myself thinking of past memories. "I had a pretty good life, I wish It hadn't ended like this." Suddenly, I saw the months go by fast. Each day Johnny brought Rocky out for a walk. It didn't seem to get easier without me. Actually, it looked pretty bad. As snow covered the ground Rocky would stay in his dog house. By the time spring came Rocky would sneak away from family Barbecues and come back to my death bed to apologize. He didn't do anything wrong but it felt good to be remembered. Johnny's fifteen now and Rocky's about my size. Johnny's father brought a large box home for christmas. Everyone was curious about what it had inside.

Johnny's turn was up to open his presents and his father insisted that he chose the box first. It looked like even Rocky was anxious to see what was inside. The lid was opened and Johnny pulls out a small wrinkly Shar Pei puppy. Then, he pulls out another, and another, and another. Each Shar Pei had a different color collar. The biggest one had a black studded collar, the second had a brown leather color, the third had a pink bow, and the smallest had a green and brown woven collar with a little jingle bell attached. The whole family gave them all of their attention. You could see the envy on Rocky's face. One of the little puppies went up to greet Rocky. Rocky stepped back a bit, he wasn't sure how to react. All the new puppies started crowding around Rocky. "It looks like you're not gonna be lonely anymore, Rocky." Johnny said with a smile on his face.
