Prologue
Duskwillow was walking in the burnt forest one day. She was a lone wolf with nowhere to go, and no family to go to. Her pack was set to fire at dusk, on a warm summer evening, when she was a pup. When her mother gave birth to Duskwillow, she was under a willow tree, in a secret clearing in the forest, but the Death Tribe still found them. Duskwillow hid before any of the Death Tribe Fighters could find her, but her mother stood her ground, and defended herself, and Duskwillow. Unfortunately, Duskwillow’s mother perished, and her father was burnt down in flames defending his pack, as he was the Alpha male. Duskwillow snapped back to reality, as she heard a rustle in the bushes. She looked over and saw only a skinny, brown, hare hop out. Duskwillow wasn’t desperate for food, but she gazed hungrily at the brown hare by the bushes. Duskwillow forced herself to break her haze on the hare. She continued to pad along, staring at the ground mournfully. Even though she was only a pup when it happened, Duskwillow could distinctly remember the evening when her camp was attacked. Duskwillow continued her walk through the burnt forest, her head still lowered. There was a cool breeze blowing, and on it, Duskwillow tasted the scent of… Another wolf? Could it be? After all these years… Suddenly Duskwillow realized she was staring at paw prints – and they were fresh, too! She picked up the scent again, and followed it to a burned out tree stump, with a few sprouts of grass shooting up from the ashes, which surprisingly still remained after all those years. Duskwillow saw a golden tail poking out from behind the tree stump, and decided to take a step closer. Before she could even move, the golden-tailed wolf turned around. She was a fully golden-coloured wolf, with emerald green eyes, and darker brown paws, muzzle, and ear tips. Duskwillow dropped down, and passed out, as soon as she saw this curious wolf. The wolf started to turn transparent, and walked into Duskwillow’s body. Duskwillow suddenly woke up in the middle of a golden wheat field, with the golden wolf across from her. “Hello, Duskwillow,” The golden wolf said. “I am Sundrop.”
“Wh-where am I?”
“Do not worry, you are only dreaming. I have some very important news to share with you,” Sundrop said.
“If it’s so important, why didn’t you tell me when I was awake?” Duskwillow demanded. “Others are watching from the shadows. Only you and I can share this dream, however, you are the one dreaming,” Sundrop replied. “So what’s the news?” Duskwillow asked, suddenly interested. “First of all, I should tell you something.”
“Yes?”
“I am a wolf from your past. I was the first Alpha of the SunWillow Tribe, and your father was the last.”
“Then how…?”
“I’ve come back to tell you some very important new, so you must listen now.”
“I’m all ears,” Duskwillow said. “Well,” Sundrop began. “Death Tribe is back, and they are roaming the shadows again.”
“I thought this was supposed to be good news!”
“I never said that; I only said it was important,” Sundrop replied. “Anyway… My real message is that you are the one prophesized to rebuild SunWillow Tribe. There is a Tribe that can help you. They are called the DuskFlare Tribe. You must merge the two together to create the DuskWillow, and SunFlare Tribes. You will find a wolf named Sunflare, and he will assist you. That is all.”
“But-“
“You will awaken now.” Sundrop’s shape started to fade, but before she was gone, she whispered a prophecy: “By the Willow at Dusk, near the stone of the sun, you will find the flare of life that will rise above the ashen field, and create a new path.” At this point Sundrop had completely faded, and Duskwillow stared in shock at the spot where Sundrop just was. Suddenly everything went black.
