I wrote this ages ago and since then my writing style has changed, a lot, but I still think the basic plot line and telling of the story is good. It is cliche in it's contents though. The story focuses around best friends Tia and Liam and how their relationship progresses - over the three chapters of this short story. I'd also like to point out that it is in no way edited or anything. Spelling and grammar mistakes should be minimal, due to the fact I wrote it on word first, but I don't know about it 100% - I haven't read it through with editing in mind.

ONE - A Commercial Romance [ 1 ]

Tia smiled and then waved goodbye to her best friend, her cheeks still tinged red from blushing. Shaking her head she then turned and hailed a taxi still pondering over the conversation they had had two weeks ago and how he had mentioned the evening again but not the conversation. As she climbed in and told the driver where she wanted ago she replied the earlier conversation two weeks ago, they had had after coming out of watching '50 first dates' at the drive-in.

Two weeks earlier at the drive-in

"Did you like it?" Tia looked over at Liam and smiled.

      "Yeah, it was great. You?"

"It was funny- Adam Sandler always is." He chuckled and Tia rolled her eyes. Then they fell silent and Tia bent forwards, opened the glove box and started sifting through the CD cases there.

"Pink, ABBA, 30 seconds to mars, Adele, black-eyed peas, Elvis, Sinatra, Johnny cash, john barrowman, avril, Taylor swift, Katy Perry, now music, Christina perri, Moulin Rouge sound track, mamma mia, AVPM, AVPS, glee-" She continued to read out the names of all the cases, tutting at some and laughing at others. Finally she finished and flicked back through deciding on Moulin Rouges' soundtrack album.

"Every time you come in this car we either listen to her, Moulin Rouge, AVMP or AVPS. Don't you ever get tired of them?"

"Do you ever get tired of me?"

"Touché." He grinned and Tia winked squinting out through the window as they passed the cinema.

"The Change Up will be out soon. Want to go see it?" She asked turning to look at him. But he just shrugged and then spoke suddenly.

"What would be your ideal date?" He kept his eyes on the road, turning off the main one and onto the quiet and dark country lanes.

"Me? Well- it's not exactly a date, more like a fantasy."

      "Go on..."

"You know the advert for Very Pink? By impulse?" She asked, turning her body around in her seat to face him. He shrugged again.

      "Vaguely."

"Well I want something like that. To meet a guy's eyes through the book case and then have a conversation through books. It's kind of silly but I love it!" She blushed and he laughed turning to look at her.

"I think that is cute." He commented and she bit her lower lip.

"Well you're weird." She teased and he stuck his tongue out before returning his eyes to the road. Then she skipped to Elephant Love Medley and they both sung along, both in tune from so many times of singing and hearing it.

      The Present (00:56am)

Tia sighed and leant back into the taxis seat trying to think why he might have asked her that. But she couldn't think of anything and by the time the car had reached her house her mind had wondered back to the end of the summer when she would be starting her trip around Europe for gap year and Liam would be going to Oxford University.

After paying the driver she climbed out and pressed the doorbell, looking up at the seventh floor of the block of flats as she waited for an answer.

"Hello?" The voice was static and sounded as if the speaker had just woken up.

"Maya, it's me; Tia. Buzz me in."

"Sure." There was a clicking sound and Tia threw a 'thanks' at the speaker before pushing open the door and starting the climb up the steps. The lift had been broken since she moved in but no one had tried to get it fixed but no one cared either.

When she had climbed 7 flights and arrived on the seventh floor, she walked over to the third door on the right and pushed in her key, turning it and stepping into the small porch. She kicked off her shoes and then walked through the next door, just remembering to lock the first one before actually entering the flat.

"Maya! It's me!" Tia called unbuttoning her black coat as she walked into the kitchen. She threw the coat over the back off her chair that was accompanied by a small, circular, wooden table made for two and Maya's chair opposite. It was tucked into an alcove in the kitchen and was a bit cramped but it made a great hat stand, and currently, a bright red mac’ was on it, a cherry red jumper, a grey woollen beret and now Tia's black skirted coat.

Running a hand through her hair, she made her way back out of the door and up the hall to the next one from which giggling could be heard through the door. Her eyebrows creasing into a frown she opened it and stopped in the door way, surveying the scene. Her flatmate was sitting on the couch -although no one would call it sitting- she was in fact straddling a strange man's lap and they were kissing and talking in between, although Tia noticed that the man's hands had strayed to Maya's butt.

Tia cleared her throat, just as Maya's hand disappeared up his shirt and they both stopped and looked at her.

"Hey Tia! You ok?" Maya said brightly, as if Tia had come in and she was only watching the television.

"Yeah I'm good. Just seen Liam, you?"

"Uhuh. Oh- Tia this is Ivan, Ivan; Tia." Ivan nodded at her, his features slightly pink. Tia smiled grimly and then an awkward silence filled the room, broken only by the sound of an argument below the floor, -this was a repetitive situation; the couple who lived below had just had a daughter and apparently (from what they gathered from the yelling) the husband had found out that she wasn't actually his and that his wife had been having an affair with a delivery man of some sort- that was until Maya decided to end it with what was probably an even more awkward comment.

"Well me and Ivan were just going to go upstairs." She made as it to move but Tia shook her head, a fake smiled spreading over her lips.

"No it's fine, I just came back to get something, then I was gonna head back out. You two stay there." She backed out of the room and closed the door, the giggling resuming almost instantly as if she had never even entered and stopped it. As she made her way towards the stairs she thought about what she would do now. She had lied about going out again and now had nothing to do. She couldn't stay her because then they would know and she didn't want to. Not while Ivan was still around. But she would have to go somewhere, for at least three hours, maybe four and then come back and if he was still here hopefully she would be able to sneak back out without being spotted.

When she arrived on the second level of their flat she felt as if it was a bit more cramped than usual and then she noticed that a big, long cardboard box was leaning against the wall. Frustrated she pressed herself against the wall and edged around it, reaching her door without knocking it over. Opening it she stepped in and walked over to her desk. The landing only had three doors on -the bathroom, Maya's room and Tia's room- and it was tiny without the box.

Picking up her iPod she stuffed it in her pocket and then turned and walked back out, shutting the door, edging around the box and running back down the stairs again, only to be greeted with a loud, delightful shriek from the sitting room. Shuddering slightly she grabbed her coat back from the small alcove and this time grabbed a key for the flat block door so she wouldn't have to be buzzed in by Maya before exiting again and making her way back down seven floors.

Outside again she looked up and down the quiet road, lit by the yellow light of street lamps and with her head down, walked along the pavement to Starbucks thankful that it was open 24 hours 7 days a week.

After she had ordered a hot chocolate she sat down and plugged her headphones in, flicked through her songs and came to rest on Jar of Hearts. When her drink arrived she thanked the waiter and then started drinking, her eyes drifting around the almost empty shop and coming to rest on the road outside. It was a boring view but better than staring at three drunken men obviously trying to sober up with coffees before they went home.

      3 hours and 24 minutes later (06:08am)

She was silent as she entered the house and let a small flame of hope flare up when she looked through the keyhole into the sitting room to find that it was empty.

The flat was silent as she walked upstairs and when she reached Maya's door no sound came from that either. Bending down she peeked through the keyhole and saw two lumps under her duvet. Smirking I straightened up and tip-toed back to my door and walked in, pulling my phone out of my pocket and calling Liam's flat. 11 rings later someone picked up.

"Hello? 'oos 'is?"The voice was groggy; as is the speaker had just woken up and she knew she had woken them and that there voice sounding like that was the result of it.

      "Sorry George, it's me, Tia."

"What you calling at this time for?" I chuckled and looked at the door checking it was shut and that she was talking quietly so there wasn't a chance of waiting up Maya and Ivan.

      "Sorry. Is Liam there?"

"'Course he is. Where else would he be at 6 in the morning?" George's voice had turned a bit grumpy now and Tia was trying to hold her laughter back.

"Can you put him on then?" She asked, pleased with how well she held her amusement.

"Yep. I'll just wake him up- he won't be happy mind!" But the tone had been replaced with a teasing one and Tia laughed freely although quietly.

"Thanks for the warning, but I've known him for 19 years!" Tia said dryly and was answered with a grunt. Then the line went quiet and she heard distance yelling and groaning. Setting the phone down on the table she walked to her window and pulled open the curtains, letting the morning sun stream into her room.

Picking up the phone again just as she heard her name being said down the line.

      "Tia?"

"Hey Liam. Sorry to wake you. I just wanted to say that you owe me 5 quid."

"What?" His voice was confused and she smiled as she saw in her head how he would probably be rubbing his forehead and blinking several times as he tried to understand what she was going on about.

      "Well. It's Ivan."

      "Who?"

      "Maya."

"Ahh. Damn. What number is it now?" Tia looked at the small whiteboard stuck to her wall and quickly added another dash to the tally with the pen.

"This week- 3. This month- 31." She said adding it up in her head.

"Right, well. I owe you 5 quid then."

"Yes. Just thought I'd let you know! See ya later?"

      "The Rink?"

"Where else?." The line went dead and she pressed the red button and dropped her phone onto her desk again before taking another look at the whiteboard.

The tally was how many boys Maya hooked up with and this time Liam had bet that she wouldn't hook up with another one until the end of the week after Ryan who had punched her after they kissed and then kissed her again and walked off but Tia had said she would get over it quickly and hook up again before the week was up and she was right. Shaking her head she walked out of the room again and into the bathroom.

      Hour later (07:13am)

Tia had showered, changed and got ready for the next day in under 45 minutes and it was only as she was leaving the flat that she heard feet on the stairs and when she did she quickly shut the door and ran down so that she wouldn't have to chat.

Now she was at The Rink, a club upstairs at night and a restaurant downstairs during the day. It was called The Rink because it ran as smooth as ice and was a constant circle; neither the restaurant nor the club ever clashed and if you didn't go clubbing there you didn't know it existed even if you were dining just downstairs. What made it so risky that it had earned the name was that the restaurant closed at 9pm, the clubbers started arriving at 9.30pm, the club closed finally and kicked all the dawdlers out at 6.45 am and the restaurant opened at 7.15am.

"Liam!" She shouted as she walked in through the door, smiling at the waiters and waitresses who were setting up. Tia didn't work there but Liam did as a chef/waiter -he made the breakfast menu until 11 when it stopped serving breakfast and then did the serving- and so was in the kitchens and not the main restaurant.

Tia being such a well known face and not bringing any questions as to why she was in there before opening was due to the fact she had arrived punctual two minutes to opening every day since she started to greet Liam at The Rink, plan the day and then she would head off to her job at the museum -where she curates the Harry Potter exhibition- which only started at 7.40.

"Tia!" She smiled at Matteo who was the head waiter and always welcomed her greatly with a hug and two 'French kisses' as they were nicknamed -air kisses on either cheek- by everyone at The Rink.

"Tia!" She said goodbye to Matteo and pushed through the kitchen doors and hugged Liam who had just called her name. She felt something on her back pocket and grinned as she turned her head slightly and saw a fiver disappearing inside.

"Thank you." She said brightly and poked her tongue out at her best friend teasingly.

"Oh shut up. Let's get on with it. Once I've finished I'll come over and do the tour and then you get off and we can go to Roses and then I thought maybe we could go to the fair that's in town?" He reeled off as she leant against the counter and he threw some bacon onto a frying pan and flipped an egg over.

"Why Roses?" She whined stealing a bit of chopped up banana and earning a slap from Sally who was chopping it up.

"Because I'm tired of Starbucks, it's cheap and at Roses, they do the best sausage sandwiches ever!" He grinned and that too earned him a slap from Sally because although Tia had never heard her speak since she had come here -except for the tiny 'Hi! I'm Sally.' on the day she first entered the kitchen (Tia not Sally)- Sally was always there for giving out soft slaps if someone said or did something that annoyed her in a friendly way.

"Yeah. Sally's right you can't say that when you're here!" Tia said knowing though that no one cared if one of the workers said that another cafe or restaurant was better than The Rink because everyone knew it wasn't true. The Rink was the best. "Fine." She muttered giving in but she didn't care really so she pushed herself up pecked Liam friendlily on the cheek grinned at Sally and then shouted to the kitchen.

"Tia out!" This was replied with many variations of goodbye and joking good riddances.

ONE - A Commercial Romance [ 2 ]

Liam nodded at the security guard outside the museum and went in, skipping past the queue -causing many annoyed moans from the people in it- and smiled slightly as he listened. Then he was inside and he made his way through the crowds and to the top floor which was given over to a Harry Potter exhibition; one which had been there since it started and attracted most of the people to the museum.

He couldn't see Tia but he knew she would be in there somewhere probably doing one of three things. (a] telling off small kids for touching something. b] Giving a tour. c] In the shop working but at the same time looking at all the stuff she could get for under ten quid.)

However Liam didn't have to look far and it turned out she was only giving a tour -to Liam's high amusement- to a large group of 30 odd, loud American's. Tia was attempting to draw them away from the interactive screen which was showing a clip from the 4th film to the show cases in which -at this part of the exhibition- four replica dragons to the model ones from the bag in the fourth film where moving thanks to some very clever electronics in their bodies. The Americans eventually turned and then found themselves enraptured by the tiny replica models and Liam rushed forwards and grabbed Tia's arm.

"No! You cannot buy them!" She said as she turned and then winced when she saw who it was."Sorry. But every time Americans come and look at the dragons they always ask if they can buy them! It's so annoying." Liam chuckled and Tia was about to cuff him around the head when they realised the group was staring at them. "Right, yes, sorry. Now through here-" She turned and pointed at a large arched doorway which held a high resemblance to the Hogwarts castle door and which was the entrance to the second part of the stuff on the fourth film.

Tia was back in professional mode and so Liam winked at her and carried on through the exhibits on his own, waving and calling greetings to the workers he knew.

      Half an hour later

      "Stupid Americans, stupid, foul annoying..."

"Shut up Tia." Liam said as they walked out of the staff exit from the museum and into a grey drizzle of rain.

      "Sorry, they are though!"

"I know. But you've told me all before." He complained as they huddled under the bus stop, Tia shivering and Liam rubbing his hands together and them blowing on them to keep them warm. She laughed harshly and he zoned out as she started talking again.

When he had entered the museum it had been warm and there was only a slight morning breeze but that was the English weather for you- turn away for a moment and it could change from a heat wave to a thunderstorm. Although that was exaggerating more than it actually would-

"Liam. Liam!" Tia's annoyed voice interrupted his rambling thoughts and he looked down at her to find that she had moved from standing next to him.

"Tia?" He look around and then found she was standing on the bus waiting for him, the conductor/driver sitting behind her looking tired and frustrated. "Sorry." He muttered climbing on and relishing in the cosy warmth that came with every bus. They payed and made their way to the back seats, only one being occupied by an old lady who kept on drifting in and out of sleep.

"Still want to go to Roses?"

"Yes." Liam laughed at the hopeful note in her voice and then shut up when he noticed the lady had just jolted again out of sleep and was staring at him darkly.

"Well you can pay then." She said cheerily and he knew it was her way of getting revenge.

"Fine." He caved and watched as she pressed her forehead against the window and then turned and looked out of the driver's window. Being friends with Tia had and always would be hard work but no one would ever say it was a trial. Everyone who met her couldn't help but fall for her angelic charm and devilish jokes. It was to hard not to.

      28 minutes later

Liam pushed open the door and smiled as he heard the familiar ring of the bell and the hello chirp from the tame love bird that flew around the restaurant. The waitress who was closest to the door looked up and smiled almost coyly at Liam and he heard Tia scoff behind him.

"Hey May." He murmured as we passed her, but her reply was drowned by Tia loudly asking at the counter for a table for two.

Once they had been shown to a table Liam watched as Tia's eyes bored into the menu as if it was her lifeline, and if she looked away, even for a second it would snap.

"Tia, I'm sorry. I'm a regular here; they know me."

Without even glancing up she replied.

      "You know her name."

"Nametag." Liam shot back but she was even quicker.

      "How old is she?"

"17." She'd tricked him into revealing that he knew more about May then what her nametag said.

      "Exactly."

"Tia." He rolled his eyes but she was still looking at the menu."Tia!" Liam raised his voice slightly and looked up."I'm sorry."

Her brow cleared but he could still see some anger in her eyes as she put her hand on top of his.

"Then that's fine. But I love you like a brother and I want to protect you."

"Uhuh?" Liam scoffed. "Sure you're not jealous?" It was an idle tease and she just stuck her tongue out at him before waving a hand at May.

      "Two mountain dews."

      "Don't have it-sorry."

"Fine then, a double espresso for me a-"

"No. Not a double espresso." May turned to Liam and she smiled, hip jutted out slightly as she 'gazed' at him. "Not after last time. We'll have a coke and a English Breakfast Tea please." May nodded wrote it down and he watched her as she walked away, hips swaying. He looked back at Tia just in time to catch her pretending to throw up and laughed.

"Why can't I have an espresso?"

"Because it sends you mental." She pouted and then they both laughed before she pulled a fat book from her bag and opened it.

"I took this out last week for some light reading." She commented as her eyes flicked from side to side.

"This is light?" She rolled her eyes but Liam could see she was having a hard time stopping herself from laughing. The two often did that; acted scenes from Harry Potter whenever there was a chance. It was her favourite book and he thought it was great too, even if he wasn't obsessed with it like she was.

      After Roses

      Outside the drive-in

"They're showing the Lion King Wednesday, 5pm, Saw Wednesday, 12pm, Mulan Wednesday, 8pm, King Kong Thursday at 10pm, Titanic on Thursday too, 7pm and Drop Dead Fred at 1am Thursday night/Friday morning." Tia pulled her head in through Liam's car window and looked across at him, as he started the car again.

"King Kong, Titanic or Drop Dead Fred." He answered as he reversed out of the entrance and back onto the road.

"Why don't we watch all three; a medley?"

"I knew it!" He cried, slapping his hand onto the steering wheel and laughing.

She sighed and pulled a fiver out of her pocket, throwing it onto the dashboard where he grabbed it and put it into his back pocket as she opened the glove box. As he kept his eyes on the road he heard her eject a disc and slide another one in.

The song that played wasn't from Moulin Rouge, AVMP or even AVPS. Liam glanced across at her too see she was grinning and her hands were in the perfect position for air guitar. He laughed as she rocked out in time with the guitar coming from the speakers and as she mouthed the words she knew so well.

"Ooh, oh, ooh, oh, uh, oh, oh, ooh, wu, oh, oohuhoo,

Girl you got me going crazy, (yeah, yeah)

Girl you got me going mad, (Uhuh)

Girl you got me around your finger,

Like the little devil you are." She sang and then I took over singing the verse,

"When I see you at the movies, waiting in line,

And the guy with his arm round your waist, (wohoho)

I feel like I got no chance,

But then your round my house,

      Working your little charms,

      But don't go twisting mee."

"Ooh, oh, ooh, oh, uh, oh, oh, ooh, wu, oh, oohuhoo,

Girl you got me going crazy, (yeah, yeah)

Girl you got me going mad, (Uhuh)

Girl you got me around your finger,

Like the little devil you are" They laughed and then he watched as she did air guitar again. The reason Liam and Tia both knew the song so well because Liam had written it and Tia had sung part of it, for his band.

      He grinned as he thought about when they had recorded it;

      Recording day

His eyes scanned the room and checked again that everyone was there; Gary, Kyle, Matt, Paul and Davy. Wait where was Tia? Liam looked around frantically and spotted her on the make-shift stage chatting to her younger sister Mary who was gazing at Paul lovingly. He smiled and then clapped his hands and Mary jumped down and the guys (including him) climbed up onto the stage.

Gary started playing his guitar a moment after Mary hit play on the video camera and then they were off. Tia sang the first chorus, Kyle and Liam singing the back-up before they took over and Matt started the drums and then as the chorus came on again Paul and Tia sang in unison.

When they finished they all watched the tape back and then did it a couple more times until it was perfect. Then Paul took Mary back to his house (they were boyfriend and girlfriend of two years then) and after Gary had disappeared, Tia, Matt, Kyle and Liam crashed onto the couch Tia and Matt had pushed into her garage when they first formed the band and watched MTV until Tia had fallen asleep, her head in Matt's lap, her stomach, chest and waist on Kyle's and her legs on Liam.

Matt was absentmindedly stroking her cheek, Kyle with his hand on her waist and Liam was leaning back into the cushions.

      2 hours later

Matt, Kyle and Liam stood in a line watching Tia sleeping, her chest rising and falling slowly. They had changed her into her pyjamas keeping her underwear on and then Matt had tucked her up and the three boys had been standing there, watching for about 5 minutes before Kyle moved.

They all went downstairs, and using the key Tia had given Liam locked the door and said their goodbyes. Matt walking off, his eyes on the pavement and his hands in his pockets. Kyle driving his mum's old ford. Liam looked back at the house one more time before going to his red truck and driving home.

      Present

Liam watched as she jumped out of the car and skipped to the library, pushing through the swing doors and slowing as she went up to the desk.

He followed her at a slow pace and heard her chatting to the librarian, who was her good friend thanks to her many visits. She had finished the thick book at Roses and informed Liam that she needed a new one when they were opposite the library, causing him to slam on my brakes -they had just picked Liam's car up from outside the bar he had been at last night- and do a U-turn.

But now she was here and he wondered off to the Wildlife section, planning on getting something out for his younger brother.

However there was something nagging at the back of Liam’s mind, something he knew he wanted to do but couldn't think what.

Tia wandered absent-mindedly down the aisle, books jumped up in category and age groups all together.

This was her favourite part of the library partly because it was obscured from view by a wall, and it was cosy and warm. Partly because you never knew what kind of book you would get when you pulled one out. Even if Tia had memorised some shelves!

She could hear footsteps coming from the main library but ignored it, pulling her knitted cardigan's -in the same style as Neville Longbottom's- sleeves down so they covered her hands as her eyes scanned the books.

A sliding ladder was at the end of the shelf and now she climbed on it, giving her access to the second-top shelf. She grabbed onto the shelf top and dragged herself along slowly, stopping when she heard a book tumble out of the top-shelf.

Her hand flew out and grabbed it before it had even passed her waist and it was then she was thankful for her Dad teaching her to play sport when she was a kid. She looked at the book and her eyes widened.
      An Ideal Husband
But then -even though a million thoughts were flying through her head- a smile took over Tia's features and she climbed down from the ladder running to the bookshelf behind her and running along it until she found the right book.

Then she climbed up the ladder to the hole that the other book had formed when being pushed through and looked through it. However she could see nothing, so instead she climbed down and pushed the book through the gap at the top on the fifth shelf up.

She waited a minute and then another book tumbled out. Picking it up she glanced at the title and then, after only a moment's hesitation turned and walked into the furthest corner, returning with two books. The one that had come through was The Bobbsey Twins in the Great West but a bookmark stuck out at Chapter IX, Dinner for Two. Tia had grabbed Great Expectations, but had also found a film she had hidden and although she knew the advert didn't include this -or any DVDs- her thought track was far from it
What the hell? This is my fantasy, and my reality. I'll make it original.
So she pushed both Great Expectations, and the film Definitely, Maybe through and waited.
Her heart was pounding as she replayed the last few minutes through her head. It was her romantic dream. And it was coming to be a romantic reality. She smiled and let out a small laugh, the excitement and happiness she was feeling pouring out of her.

Tia's laugh was stopped though, by a rattle which sounded like a ladder.

Her brow creased but then she heard footsteps on the other side and she walked alongside them. They were leading her to the end of the bookshelf.

She stopped and peered through the gap between the top of books and the start of the next shelf but could only see another bookshelf. So instead of trying harder she again followed the footsteps her heart racing.

She could now see the shadow of the person on the other side of the bookshelf. Again the urge to laugh hit her; this was all too much. Almost. This was her dream and it was coming true. But what if the person who had started up the 'conversation' wasn't someone she could like? What then?

Too late now. She thought. Tia had reached the edge of the bookshelf.

She stood stock still, listening for the sound of movement and then took a small, tentative step forwards. She turned and the high she had been feeling was cooled considerably.

Liam was standing there, a sheepish smile on his face and a book in one hand. It was all a joke and he was teasing her. Suddenly, for the first time she felt like slapping him. He'd led her on and then dumped her down. But she also felt some sense of gratitude to him. He had given her the feelings, the thoughts she would have got if it had been real. He had given her the chance for her fantasy to become a reality and she knew she would forgive him...

      ...if he grovelled...a lot.

Her eyes focused on the book as he tried to get her eyes to his face and his own eyes. He realised where she was looking and bought the book up to his chest before turning it around.
      Love and Friendship.
And suddenly it was as if it had been there all along. As if she had known the whole time it was Liam...no wanted it to be Liam.

Tia's heart rose from her feet and lodged back into place and as her lips split into a smile and her eyes sparkled she ran forwards and wrapped her arms round his neck. Liam responded by lifting her up and spinning around. Then before he set her down their eyes met; blue to green and they leant forwards, lips meeting.

Everything added up. The spark she'd felt when she'd kissed his cheek at The Rink, the warmth she had felt when he grabbed her arm at the museum and the jealousy she had felt at Roses, whatever she had told Liam.

The sensation she felt was indescribable, amazing, intense and honest. All she could do was keep her arms around his neck as they kissed, their mouths seeming to be a perfect fit. She set her feet down and then pulled away.

“This isn’t a trick?” Tia asked as they rested their foreheads against each other’s and just looked at each other.

“Never.” Liam replied, a small smile twitching at his lips.

“So...After all this time?” She whispered, her lips curving upwards.

      “Always.”

Tia tipped back her head and laughed, the laughter coming out silvery and like bells.

“You’re beautiful when you laugh.” She paused and looked at Liam, tilting her head to one side as if pondering over his words. And then she grinned and laughed again, harder.

It was contagious and Liam joined in, but quieter and softer and he put a finger to her mouth, not wanting the librarian to come and to find them to tell them to be quiet.

“And all the time as well.” He murmured.

      “You think I’m beautiful?”

“No. I know you’re the most beautiful girl in the world.”

Tia leant forwards again and kissed him gently, lingering for a moment before pulling away and taking his arms from where they were wrapped around her waist.

      “Inside and out?”

      “Inside and out.”

      “Thank you Liam. For everything.”

“Don’t thank me yet. We’ve got the rest of our lives.” Tia smiled and then stepped away, grabbing his hand. They entwined their fingers and it Tia felt herself warm up from her heart and it travelled through her body, heating every inch in love and happiness.

Liam squeezed her hand as they walked together back to the desk, past it and out the door. Neither noticed the smile the librarian’s face took upon it when Tia walked past without checking out a book, and when she saw Liam and Tia’s fingers knotted together; finally something in someone’s life had gone right.

Outside it was drizzling slightly and a cold wind was blowing, but Tia didn’t even shiver because the warmth she felt internally was enough to push away even the coldest of English weather right then and there.

      “Well...”

“Well...?” Tia asked after they had run grinning like maniacs to the car and were now safe from the grizzly rain.

“Will you go out with me?” Tia laughed again and kissed his cheek nodding.

“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

I originally wrote this for a contest where you were given a cover and had to write a story based on the cover you were given. I was given this cover and due to the intimacy of the pair but the emotion on the girls' face, the story below is what I came up with. Again it isn't edited but I believe this is much better written, and just generally better, than ACR. I have thought about carrying it on somehow, maybe writing more about the relationship between the two but I decided not too.

      5th March 2012

"Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby, A-aaaah, Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya, A-aaaaah, Know what ya doing, doing to me? A-aaaaaah, Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby!"

A screechy voice penetrated my head, my eyes opening and then closing without really seeing anything. Waking up in the morning was not one of my strong points and waking up to screechy singing was one of the worst ways to wake up. I shut my eyes again, putting it down to my sister singing in the show and snuggled further down beneath my duvet.

"Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby, A-aaaah, Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya, A-aaaaah, Know what ya doing, doing to me? A-aaaaaah, Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby!"

My eyes flew open again and I sighed, rolling over and throwing my hands down ontop of the white covers. Then I frowned.

"Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby, A-aaaah, Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya, A-aaaaah, Know what ya doing, doing to me? A-aaaaaah, Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby!"

Why would my sister be singing the song that was my name over and over again without the shower turned on? I reached over to my bedside table and looked at my phone. 06:08am And she would never be awake before 11 on the weekend.

"Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby, A-aaaah..." Following that line I heard little taps, varying in loudness and I realised they were coming from my window. I sat up and looked over at my window, squinting as I saw small black shapes fly through the air before hitting the glass pane. My curtains were broken so didn't shut and as I leant forwards to get a closer look I made the discovery that they were pebbles.

Now my curiousity outruled my sleepiness and I got out of bed, quietly but quickly, and ran over to my window and pressed my face against it, flattening my nose. After my breath had cleared from the window I saw a figure below, something clenched in their fist, waving their arms wildly now they had seen me.

I opened my window and shivered as England's cold, morning air flew into my room and made me think about closing the window again. But I didn't and just looked down instead.

"Ruby!" Suddenly, a bright smile formed on my lips and I laughed quietly as I figured out who it was.

"Tom!" I yelled (more like whisper-yelled) down, leaning further out my window.

"Do you know what day it is today?" He whisper-yelled back. I pulled myself back in for a moment and as I was turning round to look at my calender I knew. I turned back quickly and yelled the answer down.

"5th March! Our 4 year anniversary!"

"Yippy-y-up! Now, get your cute little ass down here so I can give you a snog!" I rolled my eyes at my three- no four year boyfriend and then poked my tongue out before withdrawing and shutting the window.

Grabbing clothes from the floor I stepped out of my pyjamas and into some skinny jeans and a white blouse-type-thing, pulling a navy blue cardigan over that and stepping into some blue pumps. The outfit I had worn yesterday, but I didn't mind and I knew Tom wouldn't either.

The tapping resumed on the window again and I ran over, pushing it open.

      "What?"

"Pack a bag for the night." I frowned, but Tom was looking at me in the way that said do-what-I-say-you-wont-win-in-this-argument, so I did what he said in under 5 minutes flat and then ran down stairs, silently but quickly, before picking up my set of keys from the counter in the kitchen and slowly opening the door.

I hadn't even brushed my hair or teeth and I was thinking about going back into do my teeth when I spotted Tom walking round from the back of my house where my bedroom window was. He spotted me to and stopped, smiling. Then he started walking again, only stopping when he was an inch away from me.

      "Hello."

"Hello darling, miss me?" And he kissed me. Just like that. I dropped the bag to the floor and put my hands on his waist as he did the same. Our bodies were touching in probably every available space as we kissed.

I couldn't really describe it except to say it was magical. Which was cheesy but it was. Magical I mean.

When we stopped kissing he stepped back, his hands still on my waist, and looked at me. He'd been away for two months with rubbish signal and internet connection the whole time. He's promised he would be back for this but I hadn't been so sure.

"Yes. I did miss you." And he smiled.

"I missed you too." He kissed me gently on the lips and then picked up my bag, slinging it over his shoulder. "Come on Ruby, time to steal the day."

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2015

"We did steal the day, on the 5th March 2012. I switched off my phone and gave it to You. You had already put yours away, we didn't touch a single peice of techonology and we were somewhere 3 miles away from where we lived so no one knew us. I'd left a note for my parents saying I was going to be back tomorrow and that I was at my best friend's; my best friend had agreed to cover for me. No one worried."

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2012

The sky looked as if rain would soon fall and I was right. As we sat down on the blanket Tom had bought and he leant against the tree and I leant my back against his chest the first drops started to fall. Soon it was pouring but we stayed where we were. We were covered by the forest, a canopy of trees above us, even if some rain did manage to work it's way through to the forest floor and our bodies.

"I missed you Ruby. I didn't realise how much I would miss you until we actually got to Australia. The boys actually tried to hook me up with some Aussie in a bar three days in! They said I was moping and needed some action. They said she was a gem. I told them to go screw themselves and that my gem was waiting for me back in England." I smiled at that and snuggled even further into his warm body.

Tom had gone to Australia with his friends as a celebration for getting into University and it had taken a great deal to persuade him to not cut his trip sort because of me and I was glad he had gone and even happier he had turned down the so called 'gem' in the bar.

      "I missed you more."

"Not. Even. Possible" Tom whispered, kissing me ontop of my head and then sighing.

      "Something wrong?"

"No. Just wondering how someone like me ended up with someone as beautiful as you." I sat up slowly and turned to face him, smiling.

"Someone like you huh? So you mean adorable, clever, rubbish singer, fit, handsome, funny and caring?" In retaliation Tom swooped forwards and kissed me on the lips. Just a peck but I still shivered at the touch.

      "Ruby?"

      "Tom?"

"I love you." I blinked as I looked at him. Tom Harley Stevenson. The boy I had met 5 years ago when he helped me up after I fell over in the snow. The boy who asked me out 4 years ago when we were sitting on the swings. The boy who I shared my first kiss with when he came to my house at night and called me out into the snow. This was the first time he had said it, and as all 5 years of knowing him rushed through my head I realised something. I loved him too.

He was looking at me, with love, worry starting to edge onto his face as I just stared at him.

"I love you." I smiled and he grinned, reaching forwards and pulling me too him as he crushed me in a hug.

"I love you so, so much Ruby." He whispered into my hair as tears left my eyes. I wiped them away and pulled back to look at him.

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2015

"That was it. We were together forever now, even if sometimes in the future we may argue. The bond was tied. I realise now though, that not everything lasts forever."

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2012

I laughed as I looked over my shoulder, my eyes finding Tom running to catch up with me. We were running along the footpath that led through a field behind Tom's garden. He didn't own it but it was a public footpath, mainly used by dog walkers.

I was holding Tom's phone, having taken it out of his hands when he was texting a friend. It was only a laugh and I had run off with it, Tom yelling and chasing me. And I was pretty sure he could have caught me by now but he was pretending not to be able to run as fast as myself.

The path ended when the field did and it led out onto a pavement, running alongside a road that led through our village. Not many people came down here and I couldn't hear or see any car so I stepped onto the road, it being easier to run on it.

"I'm gonna get you!" Tom shouted from not far behind and I looked over my shoulder again.

My left foot hit my right foot from underneath me and I fell, my arms going out before me to stop my facing from hitting the tarmac. The phone hit the road ahead of me and I heard something crack. My knees scraped against the road as did my hands and I slowly took the wait of my arms so I could collapse onto the road.

On inspection my knees were grazed and bleeding and were the palms of my hands. It stung like falling into a patch of nettles or putting anti-septic cream on a cut that has alchohol in it.

"Tom?" Just as he kneeled next to me, his phone lying forgotten a couple of feet infront of me, concern in his eyes and on his face.

"Are you ok? Where does it hurt?"

"I'm bleeding and it stings." I responded, looking at my palms and then flicking grit out of the cut which made it sting even more.

I was too busy wincing as Tom picked more grit out of the cut and Tom was too busy worrying about me to hear anything else.

It was only when the horn blared that we heard and saw the car. We didn't have time to move. It didn't have time to brake.

Tom pressed me to the ground, lying on top of me and protecting me. Maybe he hoped would both fit underneath it. Maybe he just wanted to protect me.

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2015

"The impact came soon after you pressed me to the ground, your body ontop of mine. The car didn't hit me but I still felt the impact. It vibrated through your body. The car had hit your back."

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2012

It stopped once it had passed over us and I lay there, Tom staring into my eyes as my heart pounded. Doors opened and footsteps sounded but all I could do was stare into Tom's eyes.

My ankle was crushed and there was a numbing pain spreading up my leg and I could feel the tears on my cheeks but they weren't mine. They were Tom's. He was crying.

People were swearing and pulling out phones and dialling 999. No one touched us, afraid of making it worse I assume.

"I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. Remember that." Tom whispered and I nodded somehow.

      "I love you too."

"Please don't be sad. Move on. Live. Don't let them burn me." I wasn't exactly sure what he was saying or why but I nodded.

      "I love you Tom."

"I love you Ruby. For forever."

Sirens were wailing but it was too late. Some of the pounding in my body had already stopped and that was because his heart has stopped. I couldn't feel it beating anymore and his eyes were glassy, fixed into place, staring into my eyes.

I screamed and I screamed and I didn't stop screaming until I was put under anaesthetic in the ambulance.

All I saw before they put the mask over my mouth was Tom. The image of his glassy eyes imprinted all over my mind.

      * * * * * * * * * * *

      5th March 2015

"I stayed true to my word. You were buried in a coffin in the churchyard, not a single peice of ash on you. You were dressed in your favourite clothes, your navy pyjamas. I wore the clothes you said you liked me best in, a yellow dress that went to just above me knee, a white belt, a white cardigan, my hair taken back slightly but still down and my blue converses.

My parents weren't to sure but I was determind to wear it and I did. I got many stares at the funeral as I sat in the third row from the front, my head held high and my back straight. I didn't mind though.

My ankle healed and I've landed myself a spot in the county's netball team.

I also moved on and lived my life.

I'm currently going out with a boy I met in University at a party. I work part time at a restaurant and the rest of my time is devoted to studying and partying.

I visit you all the time in my dreams and memories. And once a year I go to where we met, where you asked me out, where we first kissed, where you're buried, where we stole the day and here. Where you died.

I go to these places because I know that is where you are. People say that you're in your grave or up in heaven or not anywhere anymore. But I know they're wrong. I know you're here, looking over us. So that's why I go there and come here every year. I drop flowers in the place the car hit us and then sit and talk to you. I don't know if you can hear me or if you even know me anymore. But I just wanted to tell you that, if you don't hear me everynight before I go to bed, or every 5th March, or wherever I go, or whenever I think of you,

      I love you. For forever."

THREE - Dare [ intro ]

Another short story I wrote for a contest. However this contest was national and had a word limit of 500. I struggled because I never usually finish things I start and therefore a chapter I have written for a story idea is never carried on. So having a word limit and having to finish a story with a beginning, middle and end was quite difficult. I wrote about four different things for this contest, two which I only wrote the first few paragraphs of, but finally I entered this one. This time it is edited and the spelling and grammar should be immaculate.

THREE - Dare [ the story ]

To Maria, graveyards weren’t scary. They were just places full of dead people who could do you no harm. When she was younger she had been dared to sneak into the private schools’ graveyard at night and she did. A night spent sleeping behind a headstone was another dare.

It was only when she turned 14 that she stopped going into graveyards. It happened when she camped out by the old Reverend’s grave after another dare. No one understood what happened. The thing is, on the night she slept 6feet above Reverend Thomas’s coffin, no one was awake to hear her scream.

I lay the rug down before sitting on it, switching the standing torch to setting 5- the brightest. The graveyard was illuminated but the edges stayed bathed in shadows. Gravestones made of marble reflected the light and I could vaguely read names of people long forgotten. A quick glance at my watch told me it was half past eleven; I had about 6 hours until I could collect my £10 from my friends for carrying out their dare. Quick I set up the video recorder and pressed play; my proof.

28 minutes later the light dimmed and I lowered my purple notebook and looked around the graveyard. The torch rarely lasted the whole night but it going so low so early was unusual. I shrugged to myself and ignored it.

Then the light went out completely. My head snapped up and I dropped the notebook. My eyes adjusted to the dark with a moment and as my watch beeped to inform me it was midnight the man looming before me, took a step closer.

All I could do was scream.

Maria was found the next day in her bed. Assumed sleeping. It was only when people tried to wake her panic started. She wouldn’t wake. Not to anything. She was confirmed dead but the post mortem revealed nothing about the cause of her death.

Everyone knew everyone at the funeral...except for the man who stood silently at the back, a purple notebook and recorder in his hands, watching as the dark coffin was lowered into the ground to rest and become forgotten like so many others.
