I was re-watching the end of Crisis Core, and I decided to write a story, on Cloud's point of view. I think I fit it into the game pretty well.
Part 1 of the ending(in-game)
Part 2 of the ending(in-game)
Song at the end
Zack lifts me off the truck and put me in a rock niche. In a distant corner of my mind, I reject being treated like a doll, but I can't say it. He ruffles my hair, and gives a slight laugh.
I'm not a doll! I'd say, but if I could move that much, I wouldn't need to be one.
Then he stands up and walks away. Where are you going? I think, and reach out a hand to him. But he's already far away, and he doesn't look back.
It's been more than a while since Zack left. He hasn't come back, and I'm wondering:Is he dead? Caught?
No, he can't be dead. He just needs some help. I can move now, I'll go find him. By now the sky is gray, and rain plotters everywhere. I have to find him;I can't stay in this little niche. I start crawling across the plains.
When I get pretty far away from my starting point, I start hearing gunshots and rifles being fired. Then I hear a loud yell.
Zack!
I have to get up. I need to run, even if it's only for a little. So I get on my feet and sprint.
Rain is falling, harder than ever. It splashes on rocks, echoing. It seems like forever. I can't even get up anymore...will I ever find him?
Just then, I see him. I pull myself up, just a little to see better.
What I see scares me. Zack is lying in the mud spread-eagled. The left side of his face is covered in blood. He's still holding his Buster Sword, and his eyes are open.
He takes a slight breath, and I know he's not dead. I crawl over to him, faster, and finally reach him. I stop, and stare into his face.
"Zack..."
He tries to move, then stops and winces. Instead he says, "For the both...of us..."
"Both of us?"
"That's right...you're gonna..."
"You're gonna?"
He reaches up and pulls my head down, onto his chest. "Live. You'll be...my living legacy." The arm holding me down falls back, and I raise my head. One side of my face is covered in blood now, but I barely notice. He looks at me, with a half-smile, then turns his head to his sword. He lifts it up to me, saying, "My honor, my dreams...They're yours now."
I take the sword slowly. I can't believe that...that Zack is handing his sword to me. He pushes it into my hands, then his other arm falls back too.
"I'm your...living legacy..."
Zack has another half-smile on his face as he closes his eyes. I gasp, then turn to the sky, screaming a wordless howl. Zack is dead, Zack is gone. My mentor, my teacher, my friend...He is gone. He's gone, and I couldn't save him.
Memories of Zack flash through my mind. Zack, at the snowy Mt. Nibel. Zack, holding out his hand...Zack, ruffling my hair, Zack, walking away from me...Zack, in the truck on the way to Midgar...
I don't know how long I've been kneeling there, but it was enough time for the sky to become clear. Small shafts of sunlight are finding their ways down to the plains. I look up at them, then back at Zack. Some of his words echo in my mind...
Embrace your dreams. If you want to be a hero, you need to have dreams....
"Thank you. I won't forget."
I stay there for another moment, then I stand up. I look at his face one last time, and my face clenches to stop the tears. "Good night...Zack."
Then it's my turn to walk away, and I don't look back either. As I walk to Midgar, I hear Zack's voice: "If you see Aerith, say hi for me."
Then, one last time, I hear him again. "Hey...would you say...I became a hero?"
