I'm ashamed to be part of it really. Everything is so cliche and used up. Romance has gone too far, and high fantasy is dead.
I have to say I'm apalled.

I have to agree there, unfortunately.

Everything is overused, so when a writer sees nobody is reading their story (because it`s overused) they become depressed and completely give up and trying anything else.

At least, those would be my personal views.

It hurts my already blinded eyes to see all this uncreative plot ideas everywhere. No joke. Only very few, dedicated authours continue to write good, thought out, novels and books.

And I won`t say I am a super dedicated writer that does all that, but hey, at least I`m not writing *another* high school romance or whatever.

Another very overused plot for role-plays and writing alike is one: futuristic teen science or whatever you call it. Ugh, I`ve seen it countless time. I don`t know about you, but I think it`s unoriginal at the moment. And apocalypseséend of the world. They make a good story and such.... if you can be creative and detailed and really grab me, the reader.

Just my thought. Please voice your opinions as well- I`d love to hear them.

Hey guys, would anyone be interested in a story like this;

Plot wrote:It`s the year 4089 and the world still lives. Scientists have discovered an entire new planet, living right by earth without us knowing. But when astronauts explore the planet, they discover we are not alone in this universe. We have discovered an entire new race, but know nothing about it. But when people keep disappearing and wars are started even without warning or cause, the planet has to go. It should never have existed.

Rough idea, but. ^^

Ah, but there's the fun challenge of being a writer. You have to strive to create that something that hasn't been done. Or if it has been done, do it better. I write for the fun of it, and if I end up ever completing a story, I'll try to get it published. You've surely seen some terrible novels around the place...if those can get published, anything can. But make it the best thing you've ever written. It's not really the genre/'it's been done' that matters, it's how you do it. Put a new spin on an old genre, make it better.

Well I thought my spin on apocalyptic was quite good, but according to my friends it's 'boring' 'cliche' and 'unrealistic'. I seriously am beginning to stop writing nowadays. It just seems like the whole world is saying don't bother.

Regarding that "my writing is total crap" issue...

I know I'm a hypocrite for what I'm about to type, but...
It's whining big time. When you're whining, you're not doing, and if you're not doing, you're not improving.
So stop whining about how crappy your writing is and do something to make it better. Write, write, and write. And read. And write some more. Try different things, techniques, styles. Try different planning methods. Learn from other writers. Get some more experience, because experience is essential for writers. Do something you've never done before, listen to music you usually don't listen to, even if you don't like it, read genres you usually avoid, etc. There's so much you can do to improve.
This is not meant as an offence, honestly! It's rather meant as a kick in the buttocks. I'm telling this to myself all the time. Well... being polite with myself never got me far.
You only lose if you quit. So keep going.

(I do whine myself about various things, and I really wish I wouldn't do that, because the only result it brings is making me sad, frustrated, resigned, or mad. So if I ever start whining here, feel free to kick my too.)

@-Simple Sparrow-
Since you asked for our opinions:
It's always been only a few, dedicated writers who produced extraordinary works. It was always that the majority of works was mediocre or bad. That's not something that came with our generation.
I disagree anyway (that there's no creativity any more). *shrugs* Maybe you're looking in the wrong places.

(Actually, I'm really happy about high school romances and some other clichéd stories. At the moment I can't read about serious stuff because my real life's enough right now, so some well written stories that don't require me to think too much are exactly what I need. The trick is to find the diamonds among the carbon, and I found I became quite good at that.)

I completely agree with you there, Rolly.

I don't even share my original stories usually, I just write and write and write for the hell of it. Just because I get a certain idea, I write it down and develop it. Most of it doesn't even turn into a story, but one day I might rediscover it and make it a story. Writing is what you make of it. It's whatever you want it to be, and it can always be improved. The only limit is your imagination, which can be endless as long as you keep your mind open and keep information flowing. Keep reading, newspapers, fiction, non-fiction. Read everything you lay your hands on. The only thing that can stop you is yourself. Don't write to impress anyone else at first, just write to make yourself happy and to express yourself.
