I'm thinking about writing a story about some kind of hero (realistic? super?) that descends into madness...any ideas about how I could pull this off?

Hm, there's a lot of ways to do that. Have the villain cause it somehow? Have a tragic even happen to a loved one that is the hero's fault? Many ways.

Yeah, I was thinking about having a villain somehow make the hero realise something about the people he's trying to protect and about himself...I like your idea about using a loved one though, somehow he can't save them, even though he could have, and it just eats away at him...

Hello, all. I've mostly been stalking this thread, so I've only made a couple posts here, but I've gotten my first story idea- aside from a fanfic, that is- in ages (meaning over three months). So I decided to share it here and see if it's actually good or if I'm just delusional from lack of writing.

So, this girl named Eliana needs to write a fantasy story for school, and she gets an idea: a girl she bases off of herself- which is an absolute "no, don't do that" in writing, I know- finds a portal to a fantasy world through her window. But it turns out that the fantasy world is real, so Eliana has to go through everything that she wrote down for her character in that world. So, she meets various people and creatures and goes on a quest to find and defeat the evil ruler of that world.

Is that too cliche or overused? Or is it actually a good idea? Any critisism is greatly appreciated!

Anything you want us to know?: I enjoy good concrit. It helps me grow as a writer. I do this as a hobby and I have breifly spoken to family about possibly collecting my various shorts and making a kind of collection out of them to possibly be published. So, anything that will further me along that path will be very much appreciated.

Recently, my muse has made a rather abrupt appearance, so I've been thinking of a potential idea for a story. I'm not sure whether to carry on with this idea or to abandon it, so I thought I'd ask all of you talented writers here (: Here's the idea (it needs a little more elaborating, but nonetheless):-

A bullied young girl named Arianna lives a life of misery- coping with the death of her beloved dog Onyx and the humiliation she receives at school for her intense passion for canines. But suddenly, her life makes a sudden change for the better when she meets Tess, an exquisite blue merle, pedigree Australian Shepherd, born to a puppy mill and been neglected all her life. Poor Tess ran away from her previous home because she too suffered abuse and agony- she almost starved to death from nutrition deficiency and basically lack of food. Fortunately, she was thin enough to slip through a small gap in the mesh door of her prison so she escaped and ran into the streets, where she was taken in by the local dog pound and was almost euthanized from lack of potential owners when Arianna arrived. Arianna saw that Tess was in a dreadful condition- starved, ill and injured, and was also being given away for free to whoever. Arianna, without her parent's acknowledgement, adopted Tess and brought her home, tenderly nursing her back to health. Tess shows an irrefutable potential for agility when she leaps a high fence in order to defend Arianna from being beaten. Arianna realises this and devotes herself to training Tess to improve her skills. Tess becomes extremely skilled at agility, but then Arianna's mother discovers Tess's existence and threatens to send the dog back to the pound, claiming that she would never own another dog after Onyx's demise. Arianna shows her mother what she has done with Tess and her mother is stunned, as well as shocked at seeing her child so happy after months of depression. Arianna's mother allows Tess to stay, believing that if she did get rid of the dog, Arianna would emotionally collapse again, just as she did after Onyx's death. Tess begins intense training for competitions, doing exceedingly well in every one of them. Things are working out for Arianna, too- the bullying has stopped ever since she brought in her collection of achievements which she earned with Tess for show and tell at school. Arianna tells the story of her and Tess, and everyone's despise turns into awe as Arianna's works make an impact. Years pass and Tess comes to compete in the most prestigious dog show of the year, Crufts.

Basically, it's a story portraying inner strength and the ability to make once-intangible dreams reality. I'm not sure if it's any good, but I'd like to hear other people's feedbacks before I write. Please don't steal the idea, anyone (I'm not accusing any of being thieves, I'm just saying ^^;), even if I don't use it, I will report you. This story probably won't be published to Chicken Smoothie, ever, but I make post extracts here for feedback. Thanks everyone ^^;

Obscure: it sounds like it would be a really interesting story. You may want to go into how young Arianna found a way of obtaining Tess' papers or if the puppy mill ended up surrendering them to the pound. That way you can add a little more depth to the story about Tess and some of the other struggles that Arianna went through with training Tess for the Agility, Obedience, Rally competitions.
