Cancer is over used. Flesh eating sounds a bit too unique though.
Perhaps something degenerative? Then she continues playing gradually getting worse, and then comes that horrible day she cant even lift the bat?

EDIT: Just googled flesh eating disease and over seventy percent of cases are due to compromised immune symptoms with diseases like cancer or diabetes already there.

I like Cosmic's idea. I think maybe flesh-eating would be too sad. Like, does it ever grow back?
And sorry Katniss4ever, I don't have any ideas...

@Cherry: No way am I using cancer, one it's too overused like you said, and two, unfortunately, my brother has it. It'd just be too emotional to write about.
@Cosmic, yeah, I like that idea also. I think that's the route I'm going to take for the story. But I really don't know what disease it could be. I could always make it up, like I did the flesh-eating one, but I don't want it too sound super crazy or anything. Like I said, I don't know wny real life diseases that tah could really work for.

Too kind of make this a bit more of a sob story [I love writing about those....] I was thinking her family could abandon her to her Aunt Mallory adn Uncle Patrick, because they don't have enough money to take care of her. Then Patrick, after maybe getitng in a fight with Katie, becomes her only true friend. I know, 'true friend' sounds so phony and oversued, whatever. xD

That's where we're different, I hate sob stories. I don't cry easily, but when I'm sad, I'm sad.
Real life sadness I get over fairly easily, reading about a character's death, well, I've cried.
And the true friend thing seems like a fun thing to read about... And write about. I've always wanted to do something like that...

I meant more of like, tiny little mutant thing getting into her skin after she gets a small, little scab. And it slowly starts to grow and infest her body o.o Did I mention I also like horror. xD I'll write some this afternoon and post it here when I'm finished ^_^

Awh yeah, I get the same way. Even with real life sadness I struggle to overcome it.
But when a character dies.....
Even if it's a minor character, I feel sad, depressed, and tend to mope around all day. Sometimes if it strikes me hard enough I'll cry. Even if a character just feels intensely sad and expresses that sadness, it really hurts me inside as well. That's why Mockingjay was a very, very hard book for me to read.
And watching Clannad: After Story.... Oh man....
