Assuming you all are all readers as well, hopefully of YA, as that is what my question centers around, what do you think of these love interests that keep popping up?
Controlling, vindictive, rude, cruel, and the like?
Like Xavier in Halo, and Patch in Hush-Hush. What do you all think of this? I think it's sad that YA literature is now steering us down that path to that is what our love interests must be!
I myself much prefer the books with a love interest that is kind and caring. Like Duval in Grave Mercy or Po in Graceling.
So basically the question is what do you think about these characters, do you wish they didn't exist, do you like them, does your own love interest have these mean qualities?
It's totally okay if they do, by the way, nothing against your book or Hades and Hush-Hush, I actually like Hush-Hush and the following books, besides Patch, that is.

The cruel people make the story interesting though, and you get the world from a different perspective. Writers think that the sweet guys are overdone and so they're exploring with different kinds of love interests for their characters. Dark, mysterious characters have always been interesting, and vampires have just made a comeback, so it's the natural choice if writers are looking to experiment.
Personally I like the jokester characters. The James Potters and the Leo Valdezes, because they are the most fun to read and you can play around a lot with those characters when you're writing. Cruel, angsty characters just annoy me when I'm writing. I kinda want to punch them in the face occasionally, when they get too self-absorbed.
