Chapter 1
Midnight sat, her tail curled round her back leg and her front paw lifted as she leant forward, on the cold bricks of the wall. It was late, the moon had been covered by the rain clouds and the whole street was getting dark fast, Ashen should have been there by now. With a twitch of her nose Midnight pushed her self to her feet and sighed, Oak would come looking for her if she didn’t return home soon, but before she had time to glance back up the road she caught sight of Ashen padding towards her.
The sunken figure of Ashen was a reliving sight and Midnight settled her self back down into a sitting position. He sat down beside her and the pair shared a affectionate lick on the forehead in greeting, both purring as they did. Straightening up Ashen sighed, he didn’t look himself that night, “I’m glad we could meet.” He muttered, not seeming as if he meant it. “I need to show you something.” At this he lifted the white fur around his neck revealing a blue strapped collar.
Midnight almost gasped but stopped herself for Ashens sake and instead asked where he got it. He shrugged, not wanting to talk, but Midnight was persistent enough to get an answer from him. “I’m not sure how it happened,” he explained “I was just… then…” his words were interrupted by the distant barking of a dog and the screeching of another cat. They ignored it and Midnight insisted that they go some where else.
Nodding Ashen leapt from the wall, his claws slipping on the cobble stones of the path.
