This short story explains the personality and history of the two characters very well:
Chapter 1
“I was pushed down into the sticky mud, his front claw on my neck. There was not much I could do now, so I just laid myself down while he pondered what to do with a thieving dragon chick. But he spoke with kind words and said ‘I’ll let you live if you let me love you’ in the calmest voice I’d heard a dragon use. It was… well… love at first sight.” Sharcia finished her story with a smile and a blush but Kakio didn’t seem to be at all interested. He sighed and slumped himself down in the long grass beside his mother, his sunken brown eyes gazing across the clearing. Sitting up Kakio's long ears pricked as he listened to the silence around him and his mother's deep breathing. "You look like your father." He heard her mutter, flicking his tail up with her own. "Smaller, mind you, but your pattern is similar."
Kakio wasn't listening; instead he was focused on the rustling in the shrubbery with an inquisitive look in his eyes. Suddenly, startling Sharcia to the extent that she tripped back, a hare leapt from the blackberry bush its fur prickling. Kay came after it with Neon in tow and the pair skidded to a halt just in front of the large mother dragon. Kakio cheered but his smile turned in to a frown as the hare went out of sight, “some one to talk to.” He exclaimed. Sharcia rolled her eyes as he spoke then, looking down at the cubs, smiled in greeting.
“Whoa.” Kay noted, measuring himself up against Kakio “you’re huge.” Neon laughed but Kakio shook his head in disbelieve.
