The Fish Tank
It was clear with a touch or blue and gray.
Open at the top like a gateway to another world.
In a way it was.
It wasn’t as clean as you would like it to be.
In ways it smelled like skunk.
I dipped my hand in then jerked it out.
Oh so cold for something that looked so warm and inviting.
Part of me wanted to jump in
The other didn’t.
I heard the soft hum of my friends, daring me to jump in with them.
For a while we conversed.
Then I caved.
“Ok fine,” I told them.
“No going back now” I told myself.
I took a deep breath and splashed through the bottomless dark gateway to the other world.
At first I was shocked.
It was so cold.
I shivered and swam around trying to get warm again.
I broke the surface and gagged.
Spitting out water that smelled of skunk and wet dog.
I dived back down into the depths of this strange world.
It was then I became warm.
A feeling I have longed for all that time I swam around.
“Ahhh” I sighed “Warmth.”
I saw my friends playing in the water and beckoning me to join them.
So I did.
Hoops
By Ace(My dog)
The tuffs of hair that sprout from his neck and back made him look like a cactus.
His ears were laid back, almost as if he was reading himself to pounce on something.
The claws protruding from his paws seemed sharper than normal.
His holey white knee sock glistened in the light.
The wind tore at the black and white coat he always wore.
His eyes locked on his target.
The muscles of his hind legs bended.
His weight shifted to his front paws.
The momentum he created surged him forward.
His inner kangaroo came out.
The time flow stopped as his body surged through the gigantic hoop.
His front paws shook the earth as they hit the ground.
The spectators cheered and hollered “Good Boy” to the little champ.
His little accomplishment was rewarded by a savory delight.
If I only know one thing about that dog,
It’s that he’ll jump through hoops for you.
The Pain in My Side
By Ace
The pain in my side is black and fuzzy
Hints of white line his belly
One of his legs has a wholly knee sock
They say he’s cute, I say he’s a pest
The pain in my side has razor sharp teeth
He has drawn blood many tomes
His bite leaves scars for lots of years
They scold him, I just cower
The pain in my side has floppy ears
When he shakes his ears go wild
Giving me slaps of pain
They say they’re soft, I say they hurt
The pain in my side has sharp claws
He digs them into me
I think he sees joy in this
They say he’s playing, I say he’s not
The pain in my side is rowdy
He jumps all over the place
He sits everywhere, even on my head
They think he’s annoying, I agree
The pain in my side is a mutt
A border collie and something else
He was abandoned at 11 months
They rescued him, who will rescue me
The Wolf
By Oreo(My other dog)
Soft silver and beautiful snow white
Eyes that look real
Stuffing from the most wonderful of places
A tail of the highest quality
So soft but no squeaker
So sharp but no claws
So tasteful but no food
Eyes could pierce your heart
Teeth could rip your flesh
Fur could make you fall in love
How I long to sink my teeth into it
Not my dinky leopard toy
How I would taste the wonderful flavors
I would savor them until they’re gone
But alas, my dream is not so
For my owner treasures it dearly
If I could take it I would
But unfortunately it is guarded by a door
No longer do my dreams last
No longer do my hopes soar
I am stuck in a crevice of sadness
Rock bottom of Depression Sea
No longer do I taste the flavor
Of one I did before
No longer do my teeth marks
Grace the shining silver
My dreams, hopes, and desires are gone with the wind
They will never return to the way they once were
Before the doorway of opportunity was shut
I longed for more tastes
Of the majestic toy
But longing slipped through my grasp
So I am now forced to chew on others
My leopard, bear, and bones
But the simple desire of a dog for a toy
Is one that reaches above all
Fire
By Oreo
“Fire in the house, Fire!!!!”
My mother, Ace, screamed when I jumped at him.
I dropped to the ground in front of him.
“Where?” I asked. “You,” he waited.
I began chasing my tail trying to find the fire.
I twisted left and right, I even rolled over.
I couldn’t find it. I stared at Ace and asked, “Where on me?”
He sighed and told me that it was a joke.
At hearing that, pounced on him.
Gnawing on his ears and clawing at his feet,
I thought, “serves him right – messing with me like that.”
Oreo
Yappy, wild
Biting, yipping, clawing
Pest, cutie, hunter, sleeper
Licking, loving, sleeping
Lazy, lump
