Chapter Twenty-Nine
The battle begins with a loud clamor of shouts from both armies and roars from Bellatrix. Both armies run to each other into an open plain, weapons in their hands, and Bellatrix jumps into the sky. Our side has wolfani, both human and wolf, and humans. Many :Society fighters are taken by surprise when a wolfani transforms and during that moment of surprise, the wolfani attack and most win without a fight. The humans do not have that element of surprise but most of our humans can wield a blade fairly well because of hunting experience. Pretty soon, however, the :Society knows what to expect and is taking more of us out. I cannot see any of my friends among the throngs of fighting people. I hope that they are alright I turn my focus to the guns.
I need to find a way to take them out. Even though we are well protected, not every inch of our fighters is, and many fall wounded or dead from gun shots. The guns are not only a threat to us, but they also accidently injure and kill people from their own side. Bella swoops down and flames some of the gunmen and one of the guns melts because her fire is so hot. The gunners stop aiming at human fighters upon the battle field, and begin to fire at Bellatrix and me. I hide behind her neck and she climbed upward into the sky and out of range of the bullets.
“How are we going to take out the rest if we can’t get in so close anymore?” Bellatrix questions me and any who are not fighting at the moment but dragging the wounded away from the battle field. Matt responds to us the most quickly.
“Steal a gun. They have so much power that they could take out the gunmen and maybe even a gun. Save most of the bullets for the guns though Bekah and use your arrows for the gunman most of the time,” he tells me through mind communication. “You have got wicked aim with those babies.” I thank him and I like the idea. So do a few other warriors so we decide to go with it.
Bellatrix spirals downward towards the guns again and lets out a smaller flame then last time. It burns several gunmen but leaves the gun harmed. She grabs it in one of her paws and then sails back into the sky. She stops and hovers and tosses the gun in the air.
“Catch,” Bella tells me as it comes my way. I do but it almost knocks me off of her. I rebalance myself and then test out the gun. It feels awkward in my grip so I test it out, aiming at a spot in the trees. It takes me a few times, but I finally hit my mark. I tell Bella to go closer and when we are where I want to be, I aim at one of the guns. It hits is but I am too far away to make much damage.
“We need to get closer!” I shout impatiently to Bellatrix.
“They can hit us then though,” she argues. I sigh angrily, knowing she is right.
“It is the only way we will be able to knock out their guns,” I tell her. She sighs and dives closer, like I asked.
“I hate it when you are right,” she tells me flatly. I smile and laugh at her.
“I don’t,” I say back as we are almost in range. I take aim and wait for Bella to hover again so I have a sure shot at the guns. They haven’t seen us yet, they are focused on the warriors again. I take advantage of that and I shoot at the first gun four times. The first and second shots miss, but the third and fourth hit it. They leave significant damage but not enough to stop the gun or destroy it. I aim again and shoot another four times. This time all four hit and they disable and destroy the gun. I shout in victory, and my arm almost gets hit by a bullet. I curse under my breath and aim at the next gun which is shooting at us now. I fire seven shots this time. Two hit one of the gunners and he falls down dead. I cringe at the sight but remember this is just like hunting. I can’t let them make me prey, I have to stay a predator to stay alive. Five of the bullets hit the gun, jamming its barrel, but I shoot again, destroying it so it can never be used again. There are now only three guns left. I set my gun down and I grab my bow and arrows and decide to take out the people controlling the guns. I take aim and shoot three times in a row. Each arrow finds its mark even though we are so far away and each gunner falls to the ground, dead. I don’t celebrate yet; I still have six more to kill before we can knock out the guns without a problem. I grab new arrows and one by one, shoot them and kill my targets. I feel bile in the back of my throat but I swallow it. I can’t be weak now; my pack and my friends need me. Together, Bella and I take out the guns with bullets and fire before anyone can man them again.
“Nice job,” I praise Bellatrix as I dismount.
“You too Bekah,” she tells me. “Now let’s help our friends so we can be done with all of this inhumane killing.” I agree and I pull my daggers from my boots where my breeches are tucked in. I feel so odd in men’s clothing but I also feel less restricted than I did in a dress.
I run over to Colton when I finally spot him, while Bellatrix takes out large groups of mercenaries and :Society people after telling ours to retreat. Colton is fighting vigorously with a large man. I run to his side to help him and I stab the man’s sword arm. Colton takes advantage of the man’s weakness and stabs him in the chest.
“How’s it going?” He asks me as we both face another opponent.
“Bella and I got all of the guns. Now it’s up to you guys. Bella can’t use her fire in close combat or when our soldiers are there because it would kill them too,” Colton looked happy at first but when I told him about Bella’s problem, his face grew sour. I stab my opponent and he falls to the ground. I take him out of his misery and Colton overcomes his man as well. “Should we have Bella pull out of the fighting?” I ask him before we are attacked again.
“No, just don’t have her attack as much. We still need her, but we can’t lose any men by accident,” Colton tells me. “Have her attack when our men retreat.” I nod in agreement and then tell Bellatrix the plan. She sighs and knows that it is for the best and it is also the best idea we will have in such short notice. She pulls away from us and flies high above us, but not too high to come and help on short notice. I go back to fighting, cutting down people quickly when I think about my anger for the :Society, Gina, Hannah, Kelsey, and Elisha, especially Elisha, that traitorous, evil girl.
I see Elisha fighting one of the wolfani. She has her dagger in her hand, but it is clean and blood free. Then as the wolfani jumps to attack her, she lashes out and catches him in the stomach, her dagger tearing it wide open. The wolfani drops dead and Elisha looks at her bloodied knife, horrified. I scream in rage and run to attack her. The wolfani I didn’t know, but he was one us, kin to me. I swing my dagger at her and she blocks it with her dagger and while I try to swing again, she runs to hide behind a tree.
“Come out and face me you coward,” I shout angrily. She cowers behind the tree for a moment and then comes out and sheaths her dagger.
“I don’t want to fight you,” Elisha pleads with me. “I am sorry. I don’t want to fight anyone. I am so sorry Bekah.” I don’t know why but I believe her.
“Why did you join them then?” I ask her not wanting to believe that she is telling the truth.
“Because I was jealous of you and Colton,” she admits to me. “Colton never really was hanging out with Kelsey. I just told her that a great way to make you angry and hurt you would to kiss her boyfriend that way. She had already been flirting with him of her own accord so it would look more realistic and I knew she would be likely to agree to my plan.” I am not very shocked. I didn’t know any of this, but it didn’t surprise me.
“Where is Gina?” I ask changing the topic. Elisha looks at me gratefully, not wanting to have carried out any more of that previous conversation.
“I don’t know. She was fighting with Hannah and Kelsey, last time I saw her, but they said that she left to go elsewhere in the battle,” Elisha informs me.
“The only way we are truly going to win this battle without any more deaths is to capture and or kill Gina,” I tell her. “I will need your help finding her. Do not let anyone else know that we had this conversation.” Elisha looks shocked but nods her head and runs off. I hope that meant that she would do it. Shrugging that off, I speak to Bellatrix, one-on-one through our minds. “Bella, can you try and find Gina, or at least Hannah and Kelsey?” I inquire.
“Sure, just be careful Bekah, the wolfani need you alive if you are going to save them,” Bella tells me. I sigh recalling the prophecy. Maybe I need to be the one who kills Gina. I fight alongside my fellow wolfani and friends a while longer and as I am about to leave, I see Dustin, Cole’s half-brother leading hundreds of wolves. I smile at him and mock salute him. For once he smiles at me and then his army plunges into battle.

Chapter Thirty
I run carefully through the battle field, avoiding pairs of fighting warriors. I step on many dead bodies, both belonging to the :Society and to us. I cringe and try to avoid them, but it is no use. They litter the battlefield like a quilt. I finally just ignore the feeling the give me and I search for Hannah, Kelsey, or Gina.
“I found Hannah and Kelsey,” Bella shouts in my mind, her mind’s presence as immense as always.
“Bella, good job, but you don’t have to shout if we are talking in our minds,” I remind her.
“Sorry…” she says guiltily. “But I found them. If you want, I can either burn them to a crisp right now or I can take you to them and you can deal with them,” she tells me obviously favoring the first idea, however I do not.
“Take me there please. I want to deal with them myself,” I tell her. She sighs and then says okay. Not even a minute later, she picks me up in her clawed paws and flies me over the battlefield. Apparently, the fighting has moved into a nearby meadow too, and it is also is the forest, if I am guessing correctly. I pick out Hannah and Kelsey immediately, but there is no sign of Gina. “Drop me in close,” I instruct Bellatrix. She does so and sets me on the ground. Before she can take to the skies, I give her one final assignment. “Bella, please find Gina. She is the only way we can win the war.” Bellatrix nods and then flies into the skies. Satisfied, I turn back to Kelsey and Hannah. They stab and slash with their daggers quickly, precisely, and deadly. Many of our side fall victim to their blades. I hesitate and then I attack Hannah, saving Matt from a deadly blow. Together we fight her, parrying her blows and striking her with our own. We soon wear her down, and several times we wound her. I grow stronger even though I am tired and I am about to strike a fatal blow when she runs away, into the forest. I instruct Matt to follow her but not to fight, but to see if she will lead us to Gina. “Do not harm her yet.” He reluctantly agrees to the last part, knowing what she has done to me, and runs after her in his wolf form.
I then turn to fight Kelsey. At her feet lay a pile of dead or dying warriors. I moan and feel sick and then I feel angry. I run at her and attack. I catch her off guard and many of my blows catch her, leaving nasty, bloody cuts. We circle around each other, each waiting for the other to strike, or for there to be an opening in their guard.
“Well, what do you know,” Kelsey smirks. “If it isn’t the little princess Bekah,” she says mockingly. I ignore her taunts and then see that when she talks, she gestures with her hands, leaving herself wide open to an attack. I lunge forward when she begins another rant and stab her in the gut, like she did to me. I twist my dagger and then remove it. Kelsey collapses, screaming and writhing in pain, blood pouring out of the wound I inflicted upon her. She reminds me of a snake now even more. I leave her there thinking, 'Let her own people help her.' I stop myself after a few steps and turn back to her. She has blacked out and has dropped her dagger. I feel bad and even though I think she deserves it, I don’t think anyone should endure that pain without care, because I have experienced that exact same pain. I lay her on the forest floor. I rip off fabric from the hem of her hooded cape and before dressing her wounds, I wash them with water from the small pouch I was carrying it in to cleanse it and find several plants that help heal and stop bleeding. I mush them into a poultice and put them on her wound and then dress her wound with the fabric I ripped off earlier. I hide her near a stream and then I call to Bellatrix.
“Bella, can you contact Matt for me and see if he has any news?” I ask her running deeper into the forest.
“Sure thing,” Bellatrix tells me. After a few minutes I hear Matt in my head, thanks to Bellatrix.
“Hannah has run straight to her. I am here waiting for you,” He informs me. He sends Bella and me an image of a clearing and the wide mouth of a dimly lit cave. “Gina is hiding in the cave, I saw her.” I thank Matt and Bella informs me that she will pick me, Colton, and Cole up and bring us there. I thank her as well and wait.

Chapter Thirty-One
When Bella has picked all of us up, I tell Cole and Colton what is going on. I leave out anything about Elisha and almost everything about Kelsey.
“So this is how you are going to save us,” Cole says when I also reveal my plan. “You are going to kill Gina.” I hesitate to answer because I am not sure I will or can.
“Maybe, if that is what must be done to end this once and for all, then yes I will kill her, but if it can be avoided, I think I shall not kill her.” I say to them truthfully. Cole sighs and Colton doesn’t say anything. I ignore them and Bella begins to descend.
“We are here, but please just try not to get yourselves killed,” Bellatrix tells us sternly. I smile tensely and we all hop off of her back. I see a black wolf in the shadows of the bare trees and I smile at him. He nods at me and I walk over to him.
“They are in there. They obviously haven’t heard you yet or they would be out here by now,” Matt tells me but I don’t believe that they didn’t hear us. It was impossible not to hear us.
“Or maybe they want us to think that. They might be hiding and waiting to ambush us,” Colton puts in when I tell him what Matt says.
“We don’t really have a choice anymore,” I tell them. “Let’s go.” We all stand up and walk silently and slowly towards the mouth of the cave. I stand at the front of our group, my dagger in hand. Matt has his fangs bared and Colton and Cole also have their weapons drawn. Colton is right, as usual. When we enter the cave, things are dark. After a moment our eyes adjust, we are surrounded by :Society members and their mercenaries. I curse under my breath as do my friends. Gina steps forward with Hannah at her right side, like before.
“Look who decided to join our party,” Gina drawls sarcastically. I hear Colton gag and I laugh. Gina focuses her eyes on me, boring them into my very soul. “What,” she snaps angrily. “What are you laughing at you little imbecile.” I shut up quickly and roll my eyes at her egging her on. If she stepped a little bit closer, I could stab her and we could seize her, but then of course the rest of the people would be upon us and then there is Hannah.
“I don’t know, your face maybe?” I ask her. Her eyes grow dark and stormy and her face flushes red with anger. She steps forward again.
“You rude little…”she begins, but Hannah places a hand on her arm and whispers in her ear. Gina shuts up and listens. She sighs and then says, “You’re right.”
“Listen. Are we going to just sit here and talk or what?” Cole snaps impatiently. Gina turns to him and looks him over.
“Who are you, young man,” she asks her voice as sharp as my blade.
“A wolfani, I go by the name of Cole.” He says boldly, stepping forward and getting in her face. Gina steps back, appalled.
“Well, isn’t that a coincidence,” Hannah says. “Because I am in love with a boy named Cole.” She steps forward to him and grabs his shirt and pulls him to her, locking their lips and kissing him passionately. Cole’s eyes are wide with shock and I see a glimmer of metal in Hannah’s hand. I rip them apart and knock the knife out of Hannah’s hand and hold my knife to Hannah’s throat.
“Watch yourself,” I whisper threateningly. Matt and Colton also take advantage of that moment to kill some of the warriors surrounding us, that only leaves Gina, three warriors, and Hannah who I have hostage, sort of. Gina starts clapping and my hands shake. The dagger cuts Hannah slightly and she cringes.
“Well done,” she says sarcastically to us. “What a valiant attempt to win. Too bad that it’s too late; you might as well give up now. You never really had a chance you know.” I don’t believe her and I don’t get why she is telling us this. She knows we won’t believe it.
“What are you talking about?” Colton asks her, just as confused as me and Cole. Then I see their plan and so does Cole. The three remaining warriors lunge at us, but Cole and I are quick. Cole kills one as do I. Colton managed to fend his attacker off but he can’t win. Cole helps him and together the kill the last warrior. Hannah is standing by Gina holding a hand against her neck. Gina growls at our success and we close in on her.
“You little devils! That wasn’t supposed to happen! You were supposed to be dead or captured by now!” Gina screams. Hannah cringes away and covers her ears. Gina sees and turns on her. “You cowardly girl! Stop shying away and man up.” She yells angrily. Hannah stands strait but she flinches at every few words. I walk forward silently while Gina is yelling at Hannah and then I seize her. Colton helps me and Cole and Matt grab Hannah. Gina struggles against us as does Hannah, but we don’t let them go.
“Bella, we have a few prisoners we need you to pick up,” I tell her.
“Alright I meet you in a second,” Bellatrix says to me. Together, we drag Hannah and Gina out of the cave and we wait for Bella.

Chapter Thirty-Two
Bellatrix picks up Gina and Hannah in her clawed paws. Matt, Cole, Colton and I get on her back. She flies us back to the main battlefield. She roars, getting all eyes upon her. She hovers a few meters above them. I shout down to them. “Men and women, all who are for the :Society. Lay down your weapons. We have taken your leader prisoner. Lay down your weapons or feel the wrath of our weapons.” Many frightened :Society supporters drop their weapons. Our warriors quickly seize them and their previous bearers. I pump my fist in triumph and after grabbing Kelsey, we head back to the village.

When we reach the village, it is deathly silent. The clouds in the sky have disappeared after our victory, as if they never existed. The sun shines brightly, and a few animals have returned to the forest. We go to the village square and we tie up our three main prisoners to three separate posts at the city hall building. Kelsey is still unconscious thankfully, but Gina and Hannah are wide awake and they can’t seem to shut up. I leave them under Justin and Parker’s watch and Cole, Matt, Colton, and I walk through the market of the village to the cottages. Curtains are drawn across the windows. Not a single soul walks upon the streets or is outside at all. We knock upon doors and hear frightened whimpers and screams.
“What has happened?” I ask myself silently. We continue to do this all the way through the village. When we finally get to Colton’s house, he knocks differently the he had in the past and after a moment, the door is opened a crack. The curious eye of Colton’s mother peeps at us and then after a moment of silence she opens the door to us.
“Come in,” she urges us. “Hurry!” When we get inside Colton’s house we sit upon the stools in their living room.
“What is going on, Mother?” Colton asks as his mom sneaks scared and hesitant looks out the covered windows.
“Horrible things, Colton,” she says trembling and sounding unlike herself. “These horrible people have been terrorizing us, stealing everything from the marketplace stores, raiding some homes;” she gulps and continues more softly and shakily, “killing people.” Everyone gasps, but I know who they were.
“That was the people of the :Society,” I tell her, hatred filling every inch of my voice. “They secretly ruled the government and we were all pawns in their game. They came today to exterminate the wolfani, people like me and Matt,” I say gesturing to the wolf lying on the floor.
“Preposterous,” Eliza protests.
“No it isn’t Mother,” Colton says putting his hand on her forearm.
“They not only controlled us secretly, but their leader was a spy among us,” I say flatly.
“Who would do such a thing? No one from Chinook would…” she trails off. “No one from Chinook… Gina!”
“Yes, Gina fell for my dad to get as close as possible to the wolfani’s only hope.” I explain to her. “But she wasn’t the only one. She recruited some new spies and minions while she was here too, Hannah and Kelsey. And by the manipulation of Kelsey and Hannah, Elisha for a short while.” Eliza gasps.
“But why would they do such a thing?” she asks me dumbfounded.
“They had a hatred for me that burned in their hearts,” I tell her, “That is how Gina got Hannah and Kelsey, because they have been jealous of me since some of the guys in our class started asking me out. Elisha got sucked in when she was weak and they fed her false hatred and she believed that they were telling the truth and that I was the bad guy.”
“That is so horrible,” Eliza says. “Are all of the :Society people gone now?” She asks, nervously looking at the windows.
“Yes Mrs. Drebes,” Cole says. “They were captured when we won the battle.”
“Oh thank goodness,” Eliza says wiping a bead of sweat off of her forehead.
“Do you think we can get everyone else to come out of their houses?” I ask Eliza and she smiles.
“If you let me do it I most certainly can,” Eliza says proudly.

An hour or so later, the whole population of Chinook is standing in the village square looking at us and our prisoners with suspicious glances. Many exchange quiet whispers that all together sound like the buzzing of insects. When I am sure that everyone is here, I begin to speak to them.
“A long while ago, I stood up here and showed you who I truly was, a wolfani. Now I stand before you again. Beside me are either other wolfani or my human friends. Behind me are traitors, members of a group called the :Society. The :Society has worked in the shadows, secretly controlling all of Elsmera and hunting wolfani to extinction. Today we fought them and defeated them, and have brought forth their leader and the traitors who once lived with us in this very village.” I say loudly to the crowd. I nod to Justin, Cole and Matt. They bring forward Gina first and then Hannah and Kelsey who is now conscious. “Gina,” I say spitting out the word with disgust, “was the leader of the :Society, the head and the power, the creator of the whole operation. She not only married my father, spied upon all of us, and ruined my life, but,” I say pausing for a more dramatic effect. “She also killed my mother, those many years ago. I was told that she ran away, and later that she died fighting for the wolfani. The second is mostly true, but what they forgot to mention, was that this traitor assassinated my mother while she was resting after a long, strenuous battle.” Many people in the crowd move restlessly and whisper disturbed and angry.
“Liar!” Gina hisses at me. “Liar!” She says again. The crowd hears her but pays her no attention because I am starting to continue.
“She also had help this time from people who lived within our very own village, Kelsey and Hannah. They harbored a hatred for me, so when Gina offered them a chance to defeat me once and for all, sadly they jumped at it.” I say truly meaning every last word I said. I look sadly at the two girls who had once been my friends. “There was also another. Elisha,” when I call out that name, Mrs. Elliot cries out.
“No. Not my daughter. It can’t be!” She screams as tears begin to streak her face.
“I am sorry but she was one of them, but when I confronted her at the battlefield, she repented of her choices and helped us. She was a good girl who deserved a better fate then what she got,” I say sorrowfully.
“What happened to my daughter?” Mrs. Elliot screams outraged and on the brink of hysterics.
“She was murdered, by Gina and Hannah.” I say telling the truth. Matt witnessed it all and he buried her body before we got there. Hannah’s head falls from its usually regal like position. Mrs. Elliot sobs loudly and her husband holds her in his arms. The crowd, like the Elliots, is outraged. The shout and yell loudly, many of the words insults to Hannah and Gina, while others are kind words for Elisha. “I shall leave their fate in your hands. If you want Gina dead, then so be it, but when you judge Hannah and Kelsey, remember,” I say remembering our past friendship. “They are a part of our village, part of our family. They don’t deserve the same punishment as Gina nor do they deserve to be not punished,” I conclude. I then run off of the city hall steps and into the forest, the only place where it feels safer. I cry by the river, my tears mixing with the water. I cry because of how many friends I have lost, I cry because of how I had truly lost my dad to a monster, I cry because of the horrible things in my life.
I am so busy crying that I don’t hear the branches that break beneath the footsteps of an approaching person. I continue to cry until I feel those familiar arms wrap around me and that warm, rich voice sounds in my ear.
“Shhh,” the voice says softly. “It’s okay Bekah. It’s over.” My tears dry and I lean into the warm embrace of Colton. His embrace holds me and seems to protect me, from my past and everything I was crying for.
“Colton, what would I do without you?” I ask both out of necessity and curiosity.
“You would live your life to the fullest you could, even though you wouldn’t have my love, but the love of another,” he says to me. After we sit like that for a few minutes, he kisses me and says, “Bekah, I love you so much, I will love you forever and a day. I never want to leave your side,” Colton whispers in my ear, his lips tickling it as the move to form words.
“I love you too, Colton. I don’t tell you this often enough, but I love you more than anyone I have ever met. I love you more than the trees, more than hunting, more than being a wolfani,” I whisper back. Then I repeat something I said long ago. “Promise me something.”
“Anything,” he replies to me, just as he always did when I told him this.
“Promise me that when we are old enough, you will marry me and that we will be together until death parts us,” I say solemnly, looking deeply into his beautiful eyes.
“I promise, with all of my heart, all of my soul, and all of my mind. I also promise to give you all of my love. I shall never hide it from you, as long as you do not hide your love from me either.” He says kissing me from my ear, down my cheeks, then on my lips, softly at first, then with more passion and love.
“I promise,” I say breaking away from him and then kissing him again, just as a light snow begins to fall, even though there are no clouds in the sky.

Dear bullies, See that boy doing his homework in homeroom?
Last night he convinced his friend out if suicide.
See that girl you just called fat? She is starving herself.
See that old man you made fun of cause of the ugly scars?
He fought for our country.
See that young boy you just made fun of for always being sick?
He has to walk home in the snow cause his family is too poor.
Remember that boy you pushed down the steps yesterday,
well he committed suicide last night.
Is it worth it to bully people?
Re-Post this if you are against bullying. I bet 95% of you won't.
