Chapter One: Birth
Many birds chirped in the early morning. A layer of fog loomed over the small valley. In the middle of the valley, a mare lay in the darkness. Surrounded by nothing but fog and condensation, the mare was alone. She whinnied, practically screaming in the air. Birds burst off of their perches and flew off, startled by the mare's plea. The mare put her head down, panting loudly. She screamed once more but it was already over. Behind her, a soaked young colt was laying in the grass. He had a unique spotted coat and a spiky looking mane.
The mare nickered to her offspring as she got to her feet. Shaking her mane, she bent her graceful head and nuzzled the small colt, licking and cuddling him. He whinnied softly and swished his tail. The colt playfully nipped at his dam as he tried to stand on his weak legs. His legs collapsed under him but the colt was not giving up without a fight. After nearly an hour, the young colt was up and nursing. Zelda, his dam, licked her colt's appaloosa coat and sighed of contentment.
Zelda raised her head, her cream colored mane practically floating in the wind. She looked down at her colt and touched his muzzle with hers, closing her soft brown eyes. "Windsong," She muttered. "Windsong." The colt pricked his ears to the sound of Zelda's voice. He nickered softly, as if agreeing to the name. Windsong then yawned and put his head down, closing his eyes. Zelda stepped over to him and hovered above her young colt, making sure he was safe.
A rustling noise came from the deep that stood near the valley. Zelda swiveled her ears in the direction of the noise. She stayed over Windsong while keeping a wary eye on the bush. Out stepped a large buckskin stallion. He had a beautiful appaloosa blanket on his rump and a mottled muzzle. The stallion had gentle looking warm brown eyes. He looked kindly from the mare to her colt and back to her. "Zelda," The stallion muttered.
Zelda looked at the stallion and smiled. "Teufel." Teufel looked at Zelda and walked over to her. He set his muzzle on to hers and breathed in her scent. Lowering his muzzle, Teufel kissed Zelda's lips. Zelda smiled and closed her green eyes, leaning into Teufel's warmth. The mare remained close to her stallion. Teufel nuzzled her before walking over to Windsong. He looked him over and touched noses with him. Windsong remained asleep as Teufel let Zelda rest, watching carefully over his family.
