The world seemed colder. No color seemed bright, and I lay curled up in a closet, bawling my eyes out where Shadow wouldn't see. I already missed her, and several times thought she was still here. But no matter how hard you wish things were different, it didn't make a difference. My life had proved that.
I remember my mother, a white German Shepard, telling us being mutts didn't change who we were or what we were. Our brother, Taiyo, would always roll his eyes as mother told us how one day we would be able to go out of the abandoned building and have the time of our lives in a perfect world of our own. And thinking she was true, Lily and I had ventured out, betting on who could run the farthest.
We didn't realize what was happening until it was too late when a net dropped behind me onto Lily, snaring her into a small bundle of fur. I remember leaping, trying to rip her free when a collar was dropped over my head and I was yanked away, scared for us both. That day Taiyo had been right. There was no such thing as a perfect world. Just a deadly one.
I pawed at my tears, catching them on my hoof to look at them for a moment. And then Lily appeared.
Well, not really. She didn't move and was slightly floating, but it startled me all the same. As I ran to her, I tried to nuzzle her in relief, not noticing the odd things about her. Not until I passed right through her, of course. A hologram! I realized, falling to the floor. How did that happen?
And then I realized that my horn, my useless horn, was glowing. And as I stared at my reflection in the metal door, it dimmed, and Lily faded away.
I have quit CS. However, I WILL check in regularly to trade pets for designs and art. If you're interested please send a trade with what you want or a PM.
