Marley was just an ordinary dog. Sleeping all day, sleeping all night.
All of that changed when he met his friend, Avain:

It was then that he found out he was special. They were the only two dogs in the world that had powers. Avain could control Water. Marley hasn't found out his yet...

The world is silent, it is night time. The moon is glistening onto the treetops. An owl hoots in the distance. Something softly walks up to house number 3. It was a dull house, grey in and grey out. When the moon was out, however it made the house look like silver.
I wake up suddenly and listen out for the thing that woke me... Tap. Tap tap tap. Tap. Tap tap tap. I rise from my padded bed and cross to the frosty window. I put my front paws onto the radiator and look out, steaming up the glass with my breath. I see a tan and black dog's hazel eyes staring at me. The dog smiles, 'Hello!' It mouths at me. I peer at it, what is it doing there? Has it come for me? I jump back down, and stare at my front paws. They are very tender at the moment, I see blood welling at two cuts the sharp edge of the radiator made. I stare at the door, willing it to open. It doesn't though.

The Meeting...

I whine, wanting Lottie to get up to let me outside. Lottie is my owner. I hear her wake up and quietly pad downstairs to see what is wrong. I whine at her, and scratch at the door. 'Shh! Marley, be quiet! Otherwise you'll wake mum and dad!' She whispers at me. But she opens the door anyway. I smile at her, licking her hand to say thank you.
I walk outside, sniffing on the ground until I bump into the dog again. 'Hello. Who are you? Why are you in my garden?' I ask the dog.
'Oh, sorry if I scared you, I didn't mean to. I have come to find you, to take you back to where you belong.' The dog replies.
'I belong here!' I whine at the dog.
'Marley! Marley, come back here, I can't see you!' Comes Lottie's worried voice, she sounds so alone, so fragile.
'No, you don't belong with humans, being told what to do by them. You are more powerful than them!' The dog replies.
I look at the dog for a second, thinking. 'What do you mean?'
'I have to get back now, but I will come tomorrow night? If I can talk to you then?'
'Well... Yes, alright then. By the way, what is your name?' I ask the dog.
'Avain. Just call me Avain.' Avian replies, before slinking away into the night. I would have called out to her, but I can't see her anymore. I ponder for a second, before turning around and trotting back to Lottie. Once we are back inside I pad over to my bed and lie down. It's going to be a long day...

A Day Later...

When the moon is shining again, I go back to the window, pulling a box over to it so I won't cut my paw again. When I glance out I see Avain and smile, knocking my paw on the window. Avain looks over and smiles, beckoning with her head for me to come out. I eye the door, my new-found confidence of doing anything still fresh in my head. I go to the door, and grab the handle with my teeth, turning my head slightly. Luckily the door hadn't been locked for the night so I slipped out! When I got to her I said straight away, 'So what do you mean? What was all that about me being more powerful than humans?! I am only a dog! So are you, we can't get in over our heads. Do you know how humans can be?!' I explained to her, shuddering as I remember my previous owner, who was very harsh and would beat me if I did anything wrong.
'You have a power. So do I. I can control water. I am not sure what you can control. We are special, we are the only dogs in the world that have powers. You have to come! You are under great danger, you see, these dragons. Yes there are dragons. Are being controlled against their will by a man called, Meercroft. He is supposed to have such weird eyes that when you look into them your whole body will become paralysed and he will be able to control it! That is what has happened to the dragons.. Well, not ALL of them supposedly, just their leader and he is being told to command them. The dragons will do anything a friend or their leader says...' Avain takes a deep breath. 'Wow, I haven't said so much in one breath before! That's a record!' She laughs.
I laugh along with her, 'So, you're saying I have to defeat Meercroft?' I say, a little in disbelief.
'Hahah! No! And me as well, but first we will need the training. I have only been trained enough to come and get you. We'll have to go back to Camp Battle. Camp Battle is a secret place where special animals like us, go to train for battles against evil people. The animals range from dogs, to cats, to unicorns. There should be dragons there but they have all gone to Amira. That is the realm Meercroft is in. The whole realm is made of fire!' Avain veers off subject, she must have been dreaming about what it looked like. 'So when do we go?' I ask.
'Now. If you can?' She replied quickly. I glance back at the open door.
'But what about my family?' I ask her.
'I don't know, but they are in danger if you stay. YOU are in danger if you stay...' She said, staring into my eyes.
I turn around and run back into the house, grabbing some of my food and toys that they had put into a backpack earlier that evening.
I fling it onto my back, and glance finally around my lovely home. I whisper goodbye to dear, dear Lottie. I wish her a happy life. I leave...

Later That Night...

I walk beside Avain. 'How long is it until we are there?' I ask her.
'Oh, well. It took me about a week non-stop running to get here.' She replies.
'Non-stop running??! I can't even run for 10 minutes! Let alone a whole week. What do you eat? I brought a couple of treats, but that is hardly enough for a week!' I reply, outraged!
'Oh, well... You may call it begging. Anyway, I'm sure you could do it better than me! I haven't had a wash in ages! What with the running and everything...' She replies. I stop walking and pull up my mittens that Lottie had put on earlier that evening. I hadn't the heart to take them off. It was all that was left of her.
The first time I saw her, she was a small girl. She saved me from the pound. I'll always remember the day she picked me up, and made me feel loved again. I knew she was the one. I shake my head, trying to get rid of the awful memories before that. I look to Avain and see she's staring at me. 'Urr, are you ok?' She asks me.
'Yes, I'm fine...' I mutter.
'Soo..... Shall we get going?' She asks, changing the subject and smiling at me.
'Yeah, ok.' I say.
We start running then, our padded feet making no sound on the cold pavement. We run past bakery shops, who's freshly baking bread makes my mouth water. We go past a supermarket, the sound of cars and the smell of petrol make me feel sick. Then we came to a pound.

We had been running for a couple of days, begging when needed then sharing our small food. We had both gotten so skinny that one day in the street so people came and picked us up. We howled, they chucked us into a cage in a van. 'Oh no! I remember this place.' I mutter to Avain, from above the noise of the howling and yowling of dogs and cats.
'Where are we? Where are we going?!' She asked me, terrified.
'We are going back to the place I thought I never needed to go to again. We are going to the pound.'

The Pound...

It seemed like the ride took forever. Everytime we stopped and new homeless pet would be added to the collection. I started pacing around our cage, trying to find a way out. 'Hey, do you think you would be able to use that water power of yours to get us out of here?' I asked Avain.
'Nope, sorry. It's metal, see?' She said, knocking her paw on the cage.
I sigh, sitting down and getting comfortable. 'We're going to need all our strength tonight.' I say
'Why?' She asks.
'We are going to have to sneak out.' I say, simply.

[Another World]

'Why are we going to the pound?' I asked Marley, I was so confused!

[Horsemadlottie]

'Because we have been caught and we don't have owners. Silly!' I laugh, then start crying, 'I don't want to go back there! I hate it...' I end up whispering. I then shake my head in despair, 'We're going to get out.'
Just then the van stops, and the door opens, letting light in, I shut my eyes against the harsh light.

[Another World]

'Won't Lottie come and get you? At least you have an owner! We'll have to help you find your power.' I was more scared than I had ever been.

The Great Escape...

'NO! Besides, we're really far away now... No way would she know... We are just going to have to sneak out, and I have a plan. Don't worry!' I say, smiling slightly at Avain. 'You're really sweet by the way.' I whisper, than shake my head. Why did I just do that?! I think. Our cage is lifted up and taken into the Pound. The smell of death and disease was horrible, although the human's had tried to cover the smell up by cleaning products. We are put into a nearly the same(slightly bigger) cage and given some food. 'Right, we have a week before they'll put us down. We have to get out.' I whisper, then the humans walk away. I wait to see what Avain says.
