Summoning Ritual:
This all started when I found a 'dark arts' book at some strange book store, I didn't honestly believe anything would work but... well, it did.
I walked to the forest one night, Friday the 13th to be exact, possibly not the smartest time to be walking about at night I'll admit but obviously I don't think about such things and their consequences, I opened the old book to a random ritual and decided to do it for fun because, what the heck, 'it won't work obviously'. I drew the five point circle in a clear spot and hummed slightly, looking around myself for some items to put on each end.
I return to my star after searching around a bit, on one point I place 3 cherry blossoms, on another, a handful of wild blackberries, on the third point I place a pitch black rock with an odd shine to it, on the fourth point I place the feather of an albino peacock and on the fifth I carefully place an oddly calm butterfly with blue and black wings.
having a final once over of the book, I realize I forgot to grab something for the middle of the star, after a small debate of just using the book itself, a quick pat of my pockets reveals a forgotten packet of opened war heads candy, taking a handful I place them in the center and step back, squinting at the books pages.
create a chant? I sigh heavily, walking backwards and sitting down on a boulder off to the side of the star, why could it not just GIVE me a chant? what rind of ritual doesn't have a set chant?
After thinking for a while I groan loudly, closing the book with a snap I shuffle back to the star steering at it in disdain. With a sigh I decide on what my mother used to say on nights just like this as she was putting my siblings and I to bed.
"At this the darkest hour
Strange creatures come to play
As creatures not of this world
They walk with extra care.
On this the night most vile
The night of evil and contempt
Though not all come for wrong
One should stay wary
Of creatures of the wicked night"
I watch the star with interest for a few moments before growing bored as nothing changes. deciding to go back home, I reach for the candy in the middle before jumping back as bright blue flames suddenly engulf them. Stumbling back I watch as the flames spread to each point of the star, engulfing each thing placed on its point, poor butterfly...
My eyes widen as from the flames a shape appears before a pink snout pokes out, seems to pause for a moment, before the rest of the head appears, bright blue eyes looking around almost curiously.
Eventually the creatures gaze locks onto my own, it makes a sort of rumbling sound, almost like a purr before continuing to emerge from the flames, heading towards me, as the creature leaves the star the blue flames die down, wrapping themselves around the creatures paws before collecting at the base of its tail.
I'm frozen as the summoned creature stands in front of me, his gaze curious and... oddly childlike. He makes the same strange purring sound before his head lowers and he nudges at the pocket containing the packet of war heads a few times before looking back into my eyes.
Getting the message I quickly dig into my pockets before pulling out a few more of the sour candy, at which his eyes brighten, his long tongue slipping out his mouth as he gives what might be a smile. I unwrap the candies carefully before slowly reaching out, candy in the palm of my hand, offering it to the creature, who in turn takes the candy, slobbering up my palm while doing so. He makes the strange purring sound again as he nudges my hand. after wiping the saliva off onto my pants, I carefully reach to stroke the smooth skull. The purring continues as his eyes close, the furry tail wagging "hey there boy" I murmur ''you are a boy, right?'' I ask myself aloud and the creatures eyes open once again "yes" comes an answer that obviously wasn't from me. I pause in shock at the voice and look back at the creature "you can... talk?" I ask and he makes a soft unhappy sound before his head tilts as he thinks for a moment before nodding "sort of. can talk to my summoner" he supplies before nudging my hand insistently.
Mulling it over, I continue stroking the smooth surface "oh... and I guess thats me..." he makes an affirming huff "whats your name?" I ask curiously, my hand trailing to smooth over the creatures strange pink stripes "I am Tenuem" he answers, eyes following my every move "if I remember correctly... in your language, it means phantom" he mutters, almost inaudible "and you're not here to like... kill me, or steal my soul and stuff?" I ask, deciding to get that out of the way. Tenuem makes a sort of offended sound before shaking his head "no. I am here to protect you, be your companion" he answers proudly. I hum in understanding before letting my hand fall back to my side "well... lets go home, then" I decide, picking up the old book before walking back through the forest, Tenuem trotting by my side. Tenuem has been by my side ever since. He really wasn't kidding with the whole 'protection' thing, its a good thing you dont have to send apology letters to thieves.
wow that ended up being a lot longer than I anticipated, I hope its ok!
