Red Vox - In The Garden

There's no way he could hide forever.

His life seemed to revolve around nature; he kept his own little 'garden', carefully maintaining the small plants he managed to keep; it was his way of avoiding others - interacting with others carried responsibility, and Fawnswoop had to worry about so much, and...

As days went on, the anxieties clouded his mind.

Weeds would start to take over; killing flowers despite his best attempts, and he could only watch on in despair.

The anxieties grew.

The monster in his mind grew; a culmination of anxiety, problems, anything he resolved not to deal with - the weeds in the garden of his mind, he compared.


At once, he opened his eyes.
The garden was like a jungle; too much work to salvage it now, overgrown, most of the precious flowers long-killed.

The dirt was up to his eyes, and he missed it all along. His lack of action had led to this.


"--you know what?" he'd mutter to himself, a long-killed spark now aflame in his eyes. "Maybe there's no harm in 'too much work' once in a while."

Explanation: The Atlas series features 9 songs representing Enneagram personality types, and the song Eight represents the personality type representing The Challenger. These types are strong, and take defeat personally, working hard to regain their sense of purpose and want to be in charge no matter what. This song screamed out the personality of Stagswipe as soon as I saw him, and allowed me to take another look at the personality I had written for him. I wanted nothing more than to have this represent both the strength and fragility of Stagswipe's view on the world and his clan.
Stagswipe is bitter that Minnowstar was chosen for deputy, then leader over him, and he still holds it against her that she did not select him for deputy. He is constantly challenging Scalestripe over decisions regarding patrols, hunting, and anything in between. He is determined and yet bitter, he cannot seem to understand why he isn't the leader of his clan.

Brightclover was shaken awake from her nightmare by a handsome, black tomcat.
Her breathing was quick, and she could feel her limbs trembling.
"Oh Beetlepounce… I thought I’d lost you." Her voice was hoarse and although she had the same nightmare almost every night, it still felt real.
"You’re okay. I’m here." Beetlepounce rubbed his face against hers, a gentle purr filling the quiet night.
"Did I wake you again?" Brightclover whispered, gently licking Beetlepounce’s fur as she tried to get her mind off the dream.
"It doesn’t matter," he assured her. "What matters is that I’m still here."
Brightclover nodded, soaking in his pine-needle scent and scouring her eyes over his fur to make sure he really was okay.
"I love you; you know." She murmured, staring deep into his copper eyes.
"I know." He replied, bending forward and licking her nose. "And I love you too."

A timid cat at best, they've had a rough start to life, a small ball of trauma the size of their heart. Still a strong believer in a guiding hand, their ancestors are all around them in the air they breathe, in the water they swim through and the stars above. No matter how alone they may feel from time to time they believe there is a brightness to the world that can sometimes only be seen in the darker moments of life. What is good without the bad in life to highlight it?
So when push comes to shove LarkPaw always trys to be the better of misfortune; showing kindness wherever they can, to whoever they can. Snowburr was thrown out of the clan as an apprentice, alongside his mentor, due to an attempted overthrow of their leader. Snowburr: Snowpaw at the time, had caused no harm towards their clan leader, yet was deemed a danger due to the tormenting actions of his mentor. Snowburr distanced himself from his mentor shortly after exile, ignoring his plans to return back to Skiftclan and plan another overthrow of the clan. Living in exile was rough for Snowburr and when he eventually was taken back into Skiftclan many moons later he held a strong resentment towards them - especially West: the clan leader. A cat he had once trusted and admired had thrown him out due to her own paranoia, and that spite was to remain with him for the rest of his life. He never openly discouraged her leadership, instead expressing discomfort in isolation. She had been unjust, nothing was changing his mind on that.
