what is their favorite island treat and why?
Sweet treats? Now you're taking in a language Antheia understands! Who can resist a deliciously sugary queen cake, after all, or a cool and colourful popsicle? A doughnut frosted with a thousand sprinkles; rice pudding with strawberries packed in the middle.
Of everything, though, Antheia's favourite has to be jam tarts.
A rich sweet strawberry jam, or perhaps some wonderfully bitter apricots instead. A perfectly baked crust, thin enough to not be overwhelming but thick enough to hold the jam in and make an impact. And then the amount of jam itself - just below the rim but spread thick and deep, leaving no room for air bubbles to take away the fullness of her treat.
She first tried them when she was only a kit and her best friend packed one for lunch and shared it with her in school. She begged her mother for one when she went home, and then every Monday got one for her lunch to enjoy.
When she left home for the quieter life it was jam tarts that she went to comfort herself. Not exactly healthy but a taste of home that helped her get through tough phases of her travels. She's tried them from all over, all types - raspberry, strawberry, blackberry, gooseberry, cherry, apricot, apple, orange. You name a fruit and she's tried it with a jam tart, no exceptions. If you ever need to cheer her up just present her with one - cheap store-bought or lovingly hand-baked, either will do.
(Though hand-baked is certainly preferred.)
