- What do they buy and who is it for?
Once again Shark shoos me off to do something, this time though it's not for the cruise, it's for Sharks sanity. I mean, I don't blame him, I kind of blabber too much and I haven't done many ordinary activities since I've arrived here.
I hadn't thought too much about the shops around. I find shopping and impulse buying one of my absolute favourite and least favourite activities! But I mean.. some of the shops here look wrecked. I'm sure it's because they've been here for a while.
I must admit that I was quite frightened to enter one the shops. Does anyone even work in these? Are they still in business? Will ghosts come out and haunt me? Who knows.
I shake off these silly thoughts and decide to enter a shop called "Inky Rinky Reads" which seemed to have a lopsided sign just dangling from the roof. I take a peek in before finally taking a look at the breathless amount of books crowded into shelves. Even at a glance, you could see the books piling with dust. Constellations were engraved into the ceiling.
"Ah! Good thing you're here. I think I lost my copy of Moby Dick."
"Monty?" I am flooded with relief and bewilderment. "What are you doing here?"
"Just finding another... poem—I mean whale book to read. Can you help me out?"
I hesitate to answer when I see numbers stuck to the books. "Monty.. don't these cost mermaid scales?"
He scratches his neck. "Huh? I mean, this is kind of like my public library... I mean it's not a public library.." He sees me glaring at him. "Well It's not like my poor eyes can even read a price tag. What brought ya here anyways?" Monty asks.
"Well the mechanic there kinda kicked me out today. Said he's going to fix the cruise now that he's got all of the parts.. well hopefully all the parts," I let out a laugh thinking about how awful this whole fiasco was. "Shark told me to come here and look around. Maybe I'll get something."
"For someone back home?" Monty replies.
I hadn't thought too much about back home when the cruise docked. "Erm... no. I was thinking Timothy. He's just a bundle of happiness and I want to give him something. This probably isn't the right store though."
The English teacher's eyes light up "No, no! There is always a book for everyone! Let me think..." His arm shoots up in the air "Ah! I heard Timothy's becoming a surfer? I'm sure he'll want.." Monty's eyes scan the room and he grabs a book hastily, "How to do Epic and Cool Surfer Tricks for Beginners?" Monty asks.
I can barely handle it. "Yes, yes! Monty that's a really good idea. I'm sure he'll love it. Maybe even Mako will learn from it."
Monty seems pleased and even does a tiny bow. "My service. But you know, you still have to pay for the book."
"You still have to pay for all your books," I frown, trying not to laugh.
"I actually do bring them back, I promise," Monty counters.
After I'm done purchasing the book for Timothy I also purchase a little bag that's decorated with crab cartoons. I'm super excited for him to receive my gift.
