How is the hike, and what sorts of flora and fauna do they encounter?
Sycamore's eyes lit up like christmas lights as soon as she realized she'd just been handed free reign to wander off into the thick growth and observe all of the plants that grew on this beautiful island. She'd get to stroke their leaves and observe the things that helped them grow so plentifully here - she'd even be able to sneak a few samples on her way through! Of course, mermaids were cool too, but her mind was completely focused on the flora. Even the animals weren't that interesting to her mind beyond how they interacted with all of the greenery around them.
As she walked, Sycamore didn't even notice the hard work that the hiking was. She looked like a child in a candy store, her eyes wandering from spot to spot, unable to focus.
The giant leaves, the bountiful fuchsia-colored blooms... the scent of rain and soil hung heavy in the air and made her a little dizzy like the best perfume she'd ever smelled. She dreamed of her own greenhouse smelling like this. Even the ivy that she kept bumping into was charming in her eyes, she gently nudged it out of her way like you would softly move a child or a beloved pet.
She'd brought water along to drink, but ended up giving most of it to a few thirsty-looking plants on her way.
It was so nice being under the leaves away from the heavy sun that Sycamore pondered to herself if she could pretend to get lost here. Feign innocence as she missed this whole 'mermaid' thing and just stay here until the boat was all fixed up and they were ready to get her back home to her babies. "Look at you!" She cooed as she knelt to observe a rather tiny venus flytrap - she did have a few of these already, but this one was so small and cute!
But before she knew it, she was out the other side of the forest. Sycamore let out a heavy sigh as she realized she'd have to go on with it and find these elusive mermaids.
As she kept walking, she cast a longing glance back over her shoulder at the forest. "Don't worry, my pretties, I'll be back soon!"
