cat name: Fawn
gender: Female
age: 33 Moons
clan: Autumnclan
rank: Warrior

prompt:

Fawn looked down at the scratched up trespasser and hissed. "I'm going to give you one more chance. What are you doing in Autumnclan territory?"

The mysterious cat stayed silent. He flicked his tail and looked the other direction.

"Oh, so you're going to be stubborn about it then, huh?" Fawn tapped her paw on the ground impatiently. "Whatever then. If you won't talk and you're not going to leave, I might as well just feed you. And to make sure you stay put, I'm going to have Foxclaw here keep an eye on you," she gestured toward a large orange and white tom who's pelt was covered in scars. He growled and the trespasser shook in fear.

Fawn came trotting back a few seconds later with a mouse in her mouth. She dropped it in front of the cat and uttered, "Eat up." The trespasser slowly bent his head down to pick up the mouse, but Fawn interrupted him with a loud "WAIT." The cat growled and looked up at the she-cat. "One more thing. Squeak," Fawn smirked. "Get 'em."

The mouse that she had brought out perked it's head up and jumped on top of the trespassing cat. He scurried around the cats fur and nibbled around, tickling the cat. No matter how hard the cat tried, he just couldn't grab hold of the mouse. Fawn and Foxclaw laughed as they watched the cat struggle. He hissed and clawed but the mouse wouldn't stop. Eventually, the cat shouted, "ALRIGHT! I'LL TALK!!" The mouse hopped off of the cat and ran back to Fawn. "What is that thing??"

"Squeak. He's our clans pet. He is also highly trained in many ways. His best skill is making cats like you talk. So, who are you and why are you here?"

The cat explained that he was just passing by and was upset that he had been beaten by a she-cat. And then tortured with a mouse. Fawn and Foxclaw let the cat go with a warning. If he were to be seen again, things wouldn't go so well. While walking back to camp, Fawn looked down at Squeak and smiled. "Good job, little guy."

cat name: Cedarblaze
gender: Male
age: 27 moons
clan: Slateclan
rank: Warrior

prompt:

"Fighting is meant to be a last resort. You would bet anyone would know this before rushing headfirst into an argument.
There is no need to harm any parties involved when instead you can just talk it out if there is no threat present."

Cedarblaze never been much of a tom to engage in fights, he simply viewed it as mouse-brained to have to resort to claws and teeth although Starclan made sure to give each cat a brain and a tongue to settle things peacefully.

At all times, everyone should be seen as equal. Every being is to be treated fair and respectful, this does not change in a time of struggle instead especially then, it is of importance any cat holds together.
Once an enemy is defeated, they were put in their place and thus are not to be attacked any further unless they continue to purpose a great threat even after the battle is over.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tom was out in the woods, patrolling the area far away from their camp. Rustling caught his ears a couple of times and truthfully, by now it was starting to bother him. It was merely too apparent a very unskilled cat was following him. He halted in his tracks, "Your stalking is very poor, stranger. I have been hearing you trail behind me for quite a while now." Cedarblaze's deep voice calm in sound. It was then that the noise suddenly stopped. What seemed like minutes of silence actually were simply a few moments before a gush of wind behind him exited the bush. Whoever this intruder was, lacked highly in experience, seeing as they must have panicked being called out. It was a leap intended to pin-down, but so badly timed and executed, the ginger tabby whirled around and instead avoided the tackle with ease. "Wrong choice of action, your cover was already blown, an attack is futile.", he spoke as he turned around to face the cat.

The feline was baffled and rather insecure, making them be on the cautious yet aggressive side of things. "If you knew I was following you, then why didn't you react sooner?! We both know I'm on your territory here!", it spat with a flicking tail, very well irritated. "I do admit, I was curious to see what you would do." The tom said nonchalantly. This answer seemingly didn't appeal to the stranger, their neck fur bristling as the warrior-cat turned around and padded off; "However, you should leave now, another won't be this kind.". They growled, ran forward and then jumped with unsheathed claws. Dodging yet again, Cedarblaze started to get irked by now. "Again, these forseen attacks are pointless." He mewed and smoothly threw the cat off-balance with a quick swish of the paw before pinning them down on the ground. "Last warning, I told you to get off this territory. Don't make me regret not chasing you off right away and letting you go unharmed." The vibrant tabby snarled at them, watching them get up and hurry away. "Good for them, they better not come by any time soon..."

    cat name: Firefern
    gender: she-cat
    age: 68 moons
    clan: Bearclan
    rank: warrior

    prompt:
"Get away from them, Firekit!" the tom hissed, stepping in front of the kit to block her path.

"Why, baba?" Firekit cooed, looking up at her father with wide eyes, "I was only going to bring them some mice I caught - I overheard one of them saying their favorite prey wa-"

The orange tom hissed again and narrowed his eyes at the molly, making her crouch close to the ground. His eyes softened when he realized he was scaring his daughter, "I didn't mean to scare you, Firekit. Walk with me, and I'll tell you everything."

So I'd gone on a walk with him, and he'd explained things to me: I wasn't to be nice to a captured enemy. Ever. It was a sign of weakness, he'd said, and I mustn't be weak, no matter how I felt towards the cat.

And my baba was my hero, his word was always my guiding compass - I hung onto everything he taught me, gripping it tightly. It made me feel like we were closer, especially after he died. I was still young when he died, and I was desperately afraid of not honoring his memory, or worse: forgetting him. If I didn't hold onto his lessons, his beliefs, then who would - and who would remember him if I didn't? I was desperately afraid that he'd be forgotten, be banished to the Land of the Nameless. That couldn't happen, I always told myself.

So, I lived my life by his words, and I was celebrated for it. He'd been a ruthless, effective warrior - especially when dealing with defeated enemies; I'd mirrored his behavior exactly, becoming just as ruthless. I'd never fully put my heart in it, though - it simply wasn't me. I didn't like being ruthless, treating other cats - even the captured enemy - like they were less than, treating them viciously. Still, it was what my father had always told me to do, and I did it, sure that he was right, sure that I had to treat the enemy like this. My baba was always right.

Now, though? Well, now I'm not so sure.

Mousestar is a different kind of cat than the other leaders - she's gentle, always so sure that things can be resolved peacefully. It makes me question whether the generations passed have been too ruthless, too quick with tooth and fang, and too quick to hurl harsh threats, and violence, at the enemy.

But I carry on the way I always have - being ruthless and cruel and nasty to my enemy, even after I've defeated them. Why? Because I don't want to disappoint my father, to seem weak in his eyes.

And because I simply don't know how else to be...

      How to change.

cat name: Appleface
gender: Female
age: 41 Moons
clan: AsterClan
rank: Warrior

prompt: (600 word max)

Although Appleface had quite the pretty face, she once was the fiercest warrior the Clans had ever seen.
She hailed from AsterClan’s sworn enemy, and taught to use brute force. She sliced her way through battle, not once caring if lives were taken or not. What mattered was winning, and she would do whatever it took possible to win (even if she weren’t particularly good, and unaccustomed to AsterClan’s techniques, she attempted anyways).
It was a snowy day. Heaps of snow had already piled on the ground... of course. The worst weather, in her eyes - she just hoped that it would stop soon!
Lost from my patrol. Great. Gotta find a way back somehow. Sunheart’s a mousebrain for thinking this would work out! She trekked through the snowy forest, attempting to find a way back- with hardly any luck.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a flash of light brown. Is some poor rouge in our territory? Time to put them in their place!
Whirling around, she spotted her - a light brown molly with dark brown patches. “Lost, are ya?”
“Just let me pass. Please!” she begged pitifully. To be fair, she didn’t look like she intended to stumble upon here. But rules were rules, and Appleface intended to enforce them.
Ah, how this molly reminded her of Lightstrike... a cat she had failed to take down before she ran away. The cat who ratted out Appleface’s secret allegiance to AsterClan. Her claws slid out at the very thought of her.
Appleface wanted nothing more than to maul Lightstrike.
“You're on our territory. I must teach you a lesson!” leaping upon the molly, tackling her to the ground; she hardly put up a fight, and hardly resisted when Appleface repeatedly slashed at her - over and over, only thinking of revenge of a cat this molly resembled, yet never knew. Scarlet blood stained the snow around them.

Finally, she rose.

The loner had only landed a few feeble blows. There was not comparison in their pelts; the warrior should have stopped. As she stood, falsely triumphant over a personal victory, the loner only could mutter, “I’m sorry.” She seized, and went still.
Appleface left her as she hurried back to her Clan.

She had finally found the way back. The winds blew heavily, distracting her path, but she had found them.
No words could describe her emotions when she found the scene.
A helpless kit in one of her patrol-mate’s jaws. He looked similar to the rouge she had killed earlier, except for the fact that he had white paws. Could be a coincidence.
Yet there was something about it that make her stomach churn. They had described how he had no mother. Was that rouge his? It couldn’t!

Guilt laid upon her as the snow outside that night. Appleface was truly reckless. A murderer, a murderer of a kit’s mother. A monster!
She never told her dark secret to anyone.

When dawn broke, and she saw Lark-kit’s face clearly for the first time, she vowed never to strike down a defeated enemy as cruelly as she had. Instead, she learned mercy.

    cat name: Swiftflame
    gender: tom
    age: 27 moons
    clan: Rippleclan
    rank: Warrior

prompt: It wasn't suppose to turn out like this.

His father...could he even call Berrysplash his father any longer? After what he had done?

He...he couldn't. But that didn't matter, not now. Not with the brown and cream tom underneath his claws.

"You've lost, Berrysplash," Swiftflame pushes those thoughts to the back of his mind, glaring down at the cat that had once raised him. "surrender-"

"I don't need your help!" The older cat spits - the wounds raked across his pelt and the heaving of his chest say otherwise. "You foxhearts can go - urk!"

Swiftflame pressed an unsheathed paw gently on top of Berrysplash's neck, effectively causing him to shut up. "You've been pinned down. There's no escape, what can you possibly hope to do? You're defeated, all for a dispute, and the murder of an innocent cat."

"I killed your mother, yet you clueless mousebrains only call it a dispute? It was much more than that, one I was already losing - so why not get the competition out of the way." The other sneers aggressively, and Swiftflame feels a slimmer of rage rise within him. His mother hadn't deserved- no, no. He couldn't get ahead of himself, he couldn't cave in here.

"I'm sure Dovestar will be pleased to see you serve the justice for your crime," is what Swiftflame states, coldness brushing his tone. "and Lostcall...you deserve to see how much you've broken her heart and spirit. She changed because of what you did." Swiftflame recalled when he had seen his grandmother's initial reaction to her daughters death. Rosepetal had been her only kit, and her only kit had been ripped away by her own mate. While Swiftflame and his younger siblings were there to soften the blow...it wasn't enough for the poor she-cat. She went as far as to change her own name, feeling as if she had failed her kin, as if she hadn't seen any signs.

"So that's the name she gave herself? Pathetic." Swiftflame narrows his eyes at the words, allowing his claws to tighten slightly.

Now Swiftflame wasn't a violent cat - not by any means. In confrontation with probably any other cat he knew, he would much prefer to talk it out with words rather than a fight. He tried to spare himself and other cats from possible wounds or death...but right here, right now? He wanted the other cat to submit. To admit defeat.

    But he wouldn't.

"I guess this is where it ends then."

"You could let me go." Berrysplash reminds him, but Swiftflame's expression doesn't change, unreadable.

"I defeated you. If you don't accept defeat - only one of us can walk away."

    -----

A swift demise. Swiftflame left what remained, his eyes set to the path that leads back towards RippleClan. His clanmates would never know what had transpired, only that Berrysplash was no longer with them, that he would no longer be able to face the punishments for his action.

The warrior was a cat who allowed defeated cats to flee - but not this time. Not Berrysplash.

This was a defeated enemy he disposed of.

"May StarClan light your path, if they deem you worthy enough," the tom murmurs softly, not looking back at the body. "and if not, may you find regret for what you've done."

Because perhaps even he, in the afterlife, deserved another chance. One that he was not given in life.

    One that Swiftflame ripped away.
