Maxie would never see color. He knew this, and he accepted this. Having monochromatic vision meant his world was made up of blacks, whites, and greys. But this didn't mean his world had to be dull.
He learnt from others what colors were like, where they were meant to be, and started associating them with what he felt.
The sun was yellow; warmth is yellow. Happiness was yellow. Summer was a golden haze.
Blue is a cool tone; cool like the rain, the ocean, jazz music and spring nights.
Pink is a different kind of warmth; the blush in your cheeks, a kiss, the feeling of love tingling in your stomach. Red is passion; excitement, drive, and anger alike.
Lush grass is green, and brown when dry and brittle. Brown is the soft mud beneath your feet, orange are the crisp leaves from autumn trees, and once the seasons change, become green again.
Every emotion has a color, as does every taste, every song, every touch. Living in a black and white world like Maxie, sometimes you just have to work a little harder to find them.
