taming:
I climbed from the truck as the engine died leaving the world in silence as the snow slowly buried the surrounding land. Honestly, my only goal was to get inside after all the temperature only seemed to dip further with each second making the warm house even more inviting. As I trotted up the walkway I was stopped by a break in the soft silence. A single mournful howl broke through the night catching my attention. It sounded so close. Reaching the door something in me compelled me to turn around along the snow-covered edge of the property was a large red dog, a Beranhund. They were common around these parts but rarely came close to civilization. Yet here stood the large Beranhund observing me with curious eyes and then he was gone as fast and as quietly as he had arrived.
His appearances around the property and surrounding woods became more frequent each time he seemed to dare himself to get a little closer to me. His apparent curiousness outweighing any fear. One day after letting the horses out into the pasture I had sat down on a nearby bench for lunch when I spotted him out of the corner of my eye. Facing him I pulled a chunk of turkey from my sandwich which I tossed to the ground near my feet as an offering. He hesitated only a second before caving to his inner hunger and creeping close enough to scarf down the snack. I pulled another chuck out as I edged closer stretching out a hand before dropping the second chunk. He watched me not appearing bothered by my close presence as he ducked his head down to receive the second snack allowing me to gently touch his head. His gentle boldness struck me as I stroked his head his warm red fur glittering in the sun. I think I'll call you Ryuu .
P.S. Happy Birthday Eleutheromania
