"It's time to set sail, boys" Chumana grinned wildly, paws hanging over the side of the beautifully crafted boat. The wood was a from a light palm, with etchings of the feral forms of the gods along the sides. Her claws dug into the cravings Styrkur, the god of strength and courage. She knew he watched over her in her many expeditions, making each triumphant and growing her fame as a traveller. Even the royals took notice of her, of what she brought back - especially the new foods and materials she found. Her group of soldiers now had even more royal funding, meaning she could keep going farther and farther until she explored the entire world.
"The winds are picking up, to the east!" She barked, standing tall at the front of her ship. "Shift the sail to the East, ride the high" she called over her shoulder, narrowing her golden eyes to the setting horizon. A storm was brewing, the clouds back home an inky black. The waves were becoming choppy, rocking the ship within its violent grasp. "The sea will never take us!" she laughed over the harsh winds, looking back to her crew.
"Öryggi watches over us" Chanted one of her men, fastening down serval boxes of rations and other necessary materials. The rain began pelting down, the waves became even more violent and soon spilled into the ships. The crew furiously threw the water out, passing buckets between them as they drained the ship.
"Land! I see land!!!" Another member shouted, their tail furiously snapping towards the distant shadow of a land mass.
"Don't think we've been there before" Chumana murmured to herself, nodding to the shouting man as he changed the sail position. The boat lurched forward as it was jerked to the west, barreling to towards the other island.
"Ease up, Ease up now" She growled, the ship slicing through the waves. The clouds gradually faded to a normal white as they passed through the eye of the storm. The island broke into view - the details becoming clearer as they drew near.
"Raise the sails" Chumana looked back, circling the outer edge of the boat in anticipation as her boat neared the coast. There was a small clear patch, a safe haven of a cove. The other edges of the island had a natural barrier of jagged and dangerous rocks. "To the cove" she flicked her tail forward, drawing her crews attention to the inlet. The ship stuttered forward, slowly drifting into the safety of the cove. Chumana was the first to leap forward, diving into the water with a rope held tightly between her teeth. Other members of her crew followed afterwards, they swam forward dragging the boat onto the bank of beaches. She shook off her body, trotting forward to tie the rope to the base of a nearby palm. The island was hot, much hotter than there homeland. It had fields of colorful flowers she did not recognize, with a few sparse and odd looking trees.
"You three stay here, set up camp and begin cooking. You five explore that half of the island, you four come with me for this half. Meet back here at sundown to report findings." She gave a strict nod before curtly turning and beginning her exploration.
