Selicu has always been sensitive, both emotionally and physically. Their lusus didn't help much in that manner. Squirrelmom always wanted to protect Selicu, even if it meant that the poor troll would never truly know what injury felt like. Squirrelmom treated every little scratch like Selicu almost died, and the worst that happened during the younger sweeps was a tiny scratch on their knee. Selicu was rarely let outside, until they were about 7 sweeps old, and Squirrelmom decided to let them go out to the front of the hive. It was small, but Selicu was extremely excited. In fact, a bit too excited. They had ran down the stairs and fell down the flight of stairs to the first floor, slightly sliding on their face as they hit the ground. Of course, Squirrelmom was panicked, and due to Selicu's sensitive body, the scratch had gone over an entire side of their face, including their eye. It later turned out that the eye wasn't able to see anymore. Selicu has never been told they can go outside since, still overprotected by their lusus. Their only contact with the outside world leaves them with just themself, Squirrelmom, and their husktop.

Scorra doesn't know how to explain what happened to her face without going into detail that may disturb some trolls. So she just simplifies the story by saying "she was badly burned", which in itself isn't false but it doesn't answer the question of how it happened:
When she was younger - a child - she lingered angrily away from her lusus as she felt tied down when around Zebraunt. Scorra always knew that fire made her feel powerful and safe, so she would run away to the forest outside her hive and burn plants and trees to calm herself down and let her think. One day Scorra ran from her home on a hot, dry day in the summer. She burned grass around her and became quickly overwhelmed by the flames of her own creation. Worried, Zebraunt went out in search of Scorra when the woods began to smoke and grow hot in flame. Running into the red trees, Zebraunt found Scorra hiding within a downed logged and dragged her out before the forest fires could consume her.
Scorra has to live with a badly burned face and upper back, but has learned to appreciate her Zebraunt and her harsh caregiving strategies; she understands now that she is only harsh on her to keep her safe.
