Found a little time to get some things done.

Prompt - Lucky stared at the question with a blank face. It hid the fact that the gears in his mind came to grinding halt. Tell us about yourself, who are you... why was this a question on the job application??? I'm only going to be pushing papers! When his father had said that he needed to get a job, he went for the first ones within reach when his bank account was closed out, ones that he had no background or skills for. They never called back. Then the desperation came when the locks were changed. Anything and everything was up for grabs, as long as they took him. He hid his groan as a yawn with skill. When one lives in polite society, groaning is frowned upon even more so than growling frustration. At least, that's what mother always said. He thought about the question, and played with the pen. Who was he?

His friends came to mind. Not the many acquaintances he knew and who probably called him 'friend', no, his real friends. Agrona, Jean, Mary, Magnus... They were his friends. How did that fit into the question? Well, he would do anything in his power to bring a smile to their faces. He'd help them set up an entire haunted house in the span of a few days. Loyal? Loyal. He wrote that down, that he was loyal to his friends and family. For added measure he added "and company". His sense of humor? He could adapt it to blend with the tastes of the people around him like camo. That went on, too. He thought back to all the acquaintances he had. Friendly, and gets along well with others. That was good, right? Doubt creeped up on him, and he shoved it away like he did his loneliness. If he doubted himself, then he'd have to prove to himself that there was nothing to doubt... Right?

Lucky read over his answer a few more times, looked up at where the secretary was busy clacking away at the keyboard. A fine shaking took him over. He managed a smooth greeting as he handed the finished job application to the polite secretary. She looked at him with kindness, and a little bit of pity. His shaking must have shown. He didn't relax until he was walking down the sidewalk. He pulled the worn piece of notebook paper from his wallet. He checked the name off, and looked at the address to the next place that was hiring. Satisfied that he had the address correct, he put the paper away with care and made his way to the next job site. The confident swagger hiding his nagging doubts.

Wren lives in a land of nightmares and daydreams,
where anything can happen good or bad. Though
she's a young adult, her friends and family often
note she's never lost the imagination she had as a
child. She tells tall tales of ancient knights fighting
dragons, and unicorns fighting alongside kings and
queens on the field of battle.

Her daydreams make it to children's stages, being
told at libraries or festivals in exchange for a few
extra dollars from the charity of others. It's not just
the children that listen with their eyes fixed on her
and their mouths open stunned by the scenes she
paints, but their mothers and their fathers and any
passersby that come within earshot of her stage.
Her stage is a land of daydreams, of great escapes
and incredulous battles between good and evil.

Her nightmares live in the back of her head, never leaking out, and ever changing. The unwinnable battles between good and evil, and the stories where the knights die at the breath of the dragon. For every Daydream she tells there is a dark counterpart hovering just beneath the surface- waiting. Waiting. Waiting. They crawl out in her dreams waking her in a cold sweat at odd hours, and she never has to wonder what happens next because she already knows- they are hers. They always have been. Just as much her own creation as the Daydreams that come out to play in the sun delighting children.
