personality most dont think much of marion. she's barely a blip in their lives, working as a starbucks coffee barista who clearly doesnt love her job as much as she loves the coffee she pours for customers from six thirty in the morning to six thirty in the evening. nonetheless, she's good at her job, she makes decent money, and when she gets home she gets to greet her loving wonderful girlfriend and enjoy a cup of coffee and a movie with her on their dingy couch they got from emma's mother before she moved out so they could live together.
she's generally considered laid back and relaxed by most people who've met her, and she somewhat prides herself on her chill attitude. she's usually the person her friends go to when they need to calm down or take a breather from everything going on outside, and she's happy to oblige. whenever the stress of everything gets too much, she sits down, takes a day off work, and plays some of her favorite childhood movies on the dvd player, eventually falling asleep until emma comes home. she doesnt like admitting when she's down and hates showing weakness, but for emma, she's a little more open to the idea of sharing how she really feels with others and allowing herself help.
she's not really sure where she's going in this world. she just kind of does her own thing, hoping to get somewhere and be someone before she reaches the end of the line. she thinks she used to have dreams, but after awhile she just stopped believing in them, put them out of her mind, forgot them completely. she's not particularly good at anything except making coffee, and doesnt see herself moving up in the world beyond her unimpressive job as a starbucks barista. she doesnt tell anyone of these thoughts, but she truly doesnt see herself amounting to much before her time's up.

history
mari's parents were never around much in her youth. a doctor and a lawyer, they often were at work until late hours of the night, rarely able to spend time with her or get to know their own daughter. marion often had nannies who looked after her and practically raised her since she was a baby. her parents truthfully never wanted a child, but it'd been an accident, and they claimed guilt as the reason for keeping her. sometimes she wonders if foster care would've been better than being seen as a mistake by both her parents for her entire life.
as a teenager, marion became more and more angry over her situation. she wasnt even living that terribly, she had a decent life, nothing bad had ever really happened to her, they werent hurting for money, but the knowledge that her parents couldnt even take one day off for her 16th birthday and talked to her that day other than the same "good morning marion, goodbye marion" when they left for work, not even a happy birthday, pushed her over the edge. she began calling in sock school to stay at home and sleep, slowly spending more and more time in her room than anywhere else. she essentially rotted in her room for months, barely functioning, until the nannies had enough and picked her back up. they helped her get back on the right track, and brought her out of the slump she'd found herself in.
when she graduated and moved out on her own shortly after, she met emma one day while working. the other looked just as weary and exhausted as marion felt, ordering a black coffee with nothing extra and plopping down at a table in the corner for the entirety of marion's shift. after she got off, marion couldnt help but feel something drawing her to the stranger, maybe out of sympathy, maybe because you felt the same emotions coming from them that she felt every day, but something drew her to them. she asked so quietly she herself almost didnt hear her, "is this seat taken?" the stranger looked up, two-colored eyes staring at you in disbelief almost, is what you'd describe it as. they'd shaken their head no, and gestured for you to sit in the seat across from them while they quickly hid their face back behind their laptop, messy head of hair poking out in random places where the screen couldnt hide it from your view.
they'd ended up talking for hours, until it was closing time and a friend was telling the two of you to leave for the night because they were about to close up shop, and she'd nodded and got to her feet slowly, not really wanting to leave but knowing she had to. before she disappeared from the coffee shop however, she gave the stranger, who's name she'd come to learn was emma awhile ago, her number, then headed out of the door without another protest except a hushed goodbye and a thank you for talking to her for so long and putting up with her random desire to chat.
after that it was all history. they met up a few more times in the following months, and quickly became good friends. it wasnt long before it felt like things took a turn for something more romantic, and eventually she'd started dating emma, after some prodding from her friends to ask. it's been over three years now since then, and around year two was when you'd both made the decision to move in together, and it'd finally worked out near the beginning of the year, after lots of hard work and determination. things are going pretty easy and seem to be good now, and she's glad for the brief moment of peace and quiet amidst the storm of life and all its troubles that it brings.

relationships
emma - girlfriend
the sun, moon, and stars to marion's sky (but dont tell emma that), marion loves her girlfriend more than anything in the world. she'd do anything for her and happily put off just about anything to make sure she's okay. although the romantic and somewhat clingy personality mari has can occasionally cause friction, since emma is more independent than marion, they generally get along very well and manage to work out any small fights they manage to have. marion is glad to have met emma and have her in her life no matter what challenges they have to deal with as a couple, and she's ready to tackle anything head on if it gets in their way. nonetheless, she knows that some day things might change and be different, or they drift apart, and sometimes the hardest thing is letting someone go so they can be happy, even if that means not being with you, and she's fully accepted that, but she doesnt plan on doing so any time soon, and enjoys her time with emma for what it is while it's happening instead of dreading the future and obsessing over the what-if's and possibilities.
lumina - best friend
lumina has been mari's best friend since they were practically babies. their parents were well acquainted with each other, and while their parents might have drifted a bit, marion's friendship with lumina has remained strong as it's always been over the years. lumina's been away on trips abroad for awhile now, so they havent had much time to hang out as of late, but marion knows their friendship will outlast and overcome any obstacles or challenges.
