Phoebe is one of Saturn’s moons, and the name also means shining and brilliant

Explanation (359 words)
The reason why Phoebe decided to grow her hair out over her eye is because she was afraid that nobody would approach her after one fateful day. You see, Phoebe’s right eye used to be a very small star. She could not see out of it, however it kept her entire body warm with its light. As expected, she couldn’t really look in a mirror without covering the star in order to protect her “good” eye, but it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience otherwise. People were intrigued by it, and if they didn’t look directly at her face, they would be okay with it and nobody ever complained about its brightness. Phoebe actually occasionally used it as a conversation starter! But one day in the winter, it just suddenly went out. She didn’t notice at first, because she was about to fall asleep, and then once she woke up she noticed that she was shivering with cold. She was very confused at first, because her star had always kept her warm. She wondered if her home was just so cold that it didn’t help, but the moment she stood up and looked in the mirror, she was horrified. Her star had died. When she (reluctantly) looked deep into the hole in her face where the star used to be, she saw a small white light. After some research on stars (really about 5 minutes of Googling) she realized that a small white dwarf had formed inside her eye socket. She knew that anybody that came upon her would immediately notice her star was missing, and she didn’t want anybody to think less of her. So, instead of moving far away like she wanted to, she combed her hair into a position (and cut it a bit) to cover most of the right side of her face. She told everybody that she just wanted others to be able to look at her face, and she found that they believed her. She goes about regular life now, and the only thing different is that she needs to snuggle up in blankets during the winter.

Nyx covers their eye because it comforts her. For most of her life, the eye she covers was blind, but due to recent technology advances they were able to get her eye to work again. Although grateful, she still struggles to get used to using her eye, so she covers it. This way, Nyx can see glimpses of the world behind her hair, but not a lot.

Eske's eyes are as black as the night sky, no colour, no shine. When she was little she was told her eyes are so black they send chills down everyones spines so she grew her hair out forever hiding her mesmerising stygian eyes

[why do they have hair over their eye?]: Pandora had always been a shy and reclusive soul, like the moon and the planet she was named after. A little bit of teasing always made her react. And this time it was centered around her eyes. Her eyes were nothing special at first glance but when you looked deeper, it was like you could see the universe hidden in them. You could see secrets and magic. Nobody could understand it. And what others can't understand, they are frightened of. So they tried to cover up their fear with cruelty towards Pandora. Those who had been her friends began laughing at her. They teased her and called her names mercilessly. Eventually, Pandora hid herself in her hair using it as a protective barrier between her and the others. After she did that, the others soon forgot about Pandora's eyes. But while they forgot, Pandora didn't. She has never cut her hair, her barrier ever since that day.
