When Nefertiti came to Cottonwood Stables, she was very lonely and very skittish around the other horses. They were as friendly as could be but she wasn't so sure. So her groom placed her in a separate paddock and a stall away from the others. She started to get lonely though and was going off her feed. That was until she met a beautiful Siamese cat who said her name was Sam. Sam started talking to the lonely mare and soon Nefertari started eating again. They became close companions after that because they were worried Nefertiti would go off her feed again if separated from her companion. The two would even travel together to all the shows. It wasn't unusual to see Sam curled up on Nefertiti's back.

Companion: His companion is actually a bluejay that frequents the yard. The smart bird decided he was a good way to avoid the cats skulking about. The jay also likes to groom the stallion's mane and winter coat to take loose hairs for its nest. In the spring it isn't uncommon for him to have some gangly newly-flying chicks dangling from his mane or tail.
