snippets of life wrote:present views wrote:Maggie is a very sweet gal, but she packs a punch. One minute she could be curled up next to you on the couch, and the next minute she's hissing and clawing at your arm. Though she prefers to call it being sensitive. Whether that is true or not, is a matter of opinion. Others may see it as being bipolar, or finicky, or simply being a 'woman'. Either way, it is recommended not to call her names to her face. Particularly using the word bipolar. This is where her nickname, nutmeg, came in. Although it had started out as being 'nutcase', 'nutjob', 'nuttie', etc. Some brave soul came up with nutmeg, and oddly enough, she took a liking to it. The other nut related nicknames, not so much.
first love wrote:The brave soul was Maggie's first love. She had dreams of being mates with him, but unfortunately it was not written in her future. They met when Maggie was brought to some animal scientist. You see, she has had many different homes but none of them stuck because she was blind. So she ended up as a lab rat for some psychopath in a basement of a rotting building. The brave soul had been there longer than Maggie, but he still had this light inside of him. A fire. He didn't stop fighting back, and he managed to keep Maggie's spirit alive as well. All the other animals there were dull inside, begging for their end. All them broken in some way. Even her first love was broken. After all, it was why they were all there in the first place. Some were missing limbs, or lost a sense, or even just because they were too scarred and ugly. The brave soul was deaf. Maggie was his ears, and he was her eyes. They had both a spark to them that others deemed to be crazy, nuts even. Because no one dared do what they did. It isn't like the same nuts as the tales of Joker and Harley Quinn, but instead in the way of walking the line. They both wanted to live and they would not just allow some wackjob take that away. They made quite a pair together, and together, their fight against the scientist paid off. They had managed to escape, but when they left the basement, they had found themselves in the middle of a city. Which city? They didn't know. All they knew was that they were getting out. No more humans. So they ran to the forests and stayed there. That was until he got sick. Before they're grand escape, whatever the scientist had last injected into the brave soul, hadn't been good. He didn't make it another month, though they had enjoyed their tome together. She took care of them and tried her hardest to relief any pain he may have had. His name was Chester, but like he nicknamed her 'nutmeg', she called him 'chestnut'.
the beginning wrote:Maggie was born into a warm life. The humans of the house were good people, although known as the crazy cat people on the block. Her parents taught her to be wary of humans but also not to be afraid to love them. Humans give you food and shelter, safety. Not all, but most of them, were good. And Maggie didn't understand why at first, but in quick coming weeks she had learned the humans of the house were going to sell her away. Her parents were trying to prepare for a harsh world, but they would not be able to prepare Maggie for the life she was about to lead. However Maggie didn't stop playing and laughing. Having fun. She loved and cared with all her heart, being none the wiser. When it was time for her to go, she had went on to her new home with hope.
peas in a pod wrote:She has friends few and far between, but each are held dearly to her heart. She sees no sense in surrounding ones self in lies and corruption. Though her heart remains closed off so that she may never feel the pain of loosing someone she could deem a mate. Which is why most of these dear friends aren't of feline variety. In fact, one friend of hers is a canine named Maisie. Rare as it may be, they had a history together while they both were living on the city streets. It was more of a give-take relationship. Maggie would stage a crime on Maisie to lock her away in the pound for awhile, and Maisie would trick Maggie into stealing what she wanted before taking it from her. It would constantly go back and forth between the two. But they eventually saw each other as an alley, because when things got tight they seemingly had each others back. They had shared the same losses and shared the same perspective. Now? Maisie lives with humans, a creature that the canine had once despised. Sure enough, Maisie still has a bite to her, but she's softer now than when she was before. Maggie would visit in secret, because the hope she had felt as a kitten had returned when she saw her dear friend with the humans. And once she had left, the feeling of hope would be buried once more within her heart.
lost amongst homes wrote:Maggie was unsure. It was her first time away from her family and she was in a strange, unfamiliar place. This new home had a young girl, and it was the only reason Maggie was there. The girl had wanted a kitten. Though just as Maggie started to feel settled in and started to open up to the young girl, the girl had lost interest in Maggie. She was simply cast away like an overused object. She was then given away to some newlyweds. It was to serve as some sort of punishment to the young girl, but Maggie doubted the girl learned anything from it. It was an excuse to get rid of a cat the parents never wanted. The newlyweds were a kind pair. They taught Maggie the kindness of humans. They loved her and supported her. Especially when her eye sight began to go. Just like her father, Maggie had the disease that deteriorates vision. It had amazed Maggie that they still kept her around, but the amazement hadn't last. There was divorce and Maggie was left in the dust. Abandoned and forgotten about during the commotion. After that things got blurry. Maggie bounced from one house to another. sometimes taking refuge in the alleyways some nights. It always was an never ending cycle.
light and dark wrote:Being able to see even the simplest things in life were something that Maggie never knew would be such a gift. When her vision began to fade, it was just hard to see far away. Then she couldn't see the difference in colours. Then she couldn't see in the light. And before long, it just all seemed to slip away. It was a slow process, but that end it all more terrifying. As a kitten she never liked the dark, it just always scared her. It was quiet and still, deceiving at times. Now she was forced to live that way forever. Sure she could hear and it wasn't exactly silent, but there was no sense of direction. For all she knew she could have been falling through an endless pit and the noises were of her voice, screaming, echoing. Fortunately it was not true, but it had in deed taken Maggie awhile to figure it all out. After accepting her loss and gaining balance, Maggie grew more reckless and less afraid.
hope wrote:The shelter was a change of pace. Never once had Maggie found herself in such a place, and something wanted to come crawling out of her heart. At this point, it had become natural for Maggie to shove it down and turn to cold everyone. Keep her distance, watch her back, and find a way to escape. She'd try several times, but each one failed. It even brought back memories from the scientists, expect the humans didn't have the same vibe about them. More people came by to look, they were outsiders as they never stayed. Some had left with one of the other animals, and Maggie knew it would be her turn to go eventually. To where she did not know. What she did do was stay the heck away from the human as much as possible. That went for those working at the shelter and outside of it. It seemed to have kept the outsiders from choosing to take her, up until a lost soul much like herself laid their eyes upon her. She didn't want it, but the human chose her. The human took her to it's home and she hid away, mostly under the bed. But the human didn't care. Instead it cleaned her litterbox, made sure she was fed, and had water. That went on for the longest time until Maggie grew braver to come out from under the bed. At first she'd curl up next to the human, while the human ignored her. It was odd, but Maggie felt annoyed by it, and before long she was trying to annoy the human for attention. Somewhere during the time, Maggie had allowed herself to opened up a crack. She felt hope for a better future and dreamed about a better life. A warm life next to this human.
rodents vs birds wrote:At the end of Maggie's line of reject homes; she had found herself surrounded by open land, two ridiculous canines, and a loving human named Molly. They lived on a horse ranch in the middle of no where. Maggie had her freedom as she did as a stray, expect she had a warm bed, food, and shelter to come back to. And everyday she was able to ask herself if she wanted to try to catch rodents or birds.
