Here's the second diatomic element, Oxygen - double the trouble. We need them to survive, they help form the air we breathe & the water we drink. They play a huge role in photosynthesis & cellular respiration - but don't get on their bad side. Oxygen can be toxic at elevated partial pressures, leading to convulsions and other health problems. They can be especially dangerous to divers who attempt to return to the surface too quickly, leading to an illness known as "the bends".
