altines (called tines for short) are a species of furry, omnivorous mammal native to colder climates. they range in size from wolf-sized to tiger-sized and are very social creatures. there are three classes of altines based on size and hormonal levels: domestic, stock, and feral. domestic are the smallest and most submissive class and will never have manes; stock are the standard class and will occasionally have manes; feral are the most dominant and aggressive class and will always have manes. all altines have a mask-pattern on their face; there has never been and will never be an altine without a mask. the most interesting thing about altines are their tails. each altine's tail is in fact a individual, sentient galaxy! the tails can be good, neutral, or evil in alignment and influence the altine in actions and beliefs. are you willing to take one home?"traits + rarities"no rarity

physicalityaltines are canines that can range from the size of a labrador retriever to a tiger, however most altines are roughly the size of a wolf. females tend to be slightly larger than the males, but this is not always the case. a domestic altine will weigh between 70-120lbs, a stock altine will weigh between 90-200 lbs, and a feral altine will weigh between 240-400 lbs. they eat mainly just meat, but will also eat other things if needed. all altines have distinct mask marking that encompass both eyes much like a raccoon. click here to learn more about masks ! there has never been and never will be an altine without a mask, as it is a trait that cannot be bred out of their DNA.
they generally live in colder, mountainous climates and have a very thick fur coat because of it, but some have been found in warmer climates. those in warmer climates are considered a sub-breed and are much smaller and less furry than the standard breed. social structure & classesaltines have a social structure similar to lion prides; a community of altines is called a rabble and can have anywhere form 4-25 members. altines are divided into three classes: domestic, stock, and feral. domestic are the smallest and most submissive class and will never have manes; stock are the standard class and will occasionally have manes; feral are the most dominant and aggressive class and will always have manes. it is unsure what determines or influences class because pups seem to develop into different classes with no apparent pattern. feral altines are significantly larger than the other clasess, and commonly have exaggerated features such as horns, fangs, and large claws. a rabble with consist of mostly domestic and stock altines with 1-2 feral altines leading the defending the rabble. since feral altines are too aggressive and territorial to cohabitate with multiple ferals. unlike lions, any rank or class of altine can breed and all will care for the pups. altines tend to group together based on alignment (see below).
tails & alignmentan altine's tail is a very important and distinctive feature. from what research has discovered, an altine's tail is a small, sentient galaxy. while they cannot vocalize, they seem to have strong influence over the morals and actions of the altine hosting it. because of this, altines have been classified into different alignments based upon tail color: good, neutral, and evil. altines with light colored tails tend to have a good alignment, altines with medium tails tend to have a neutral alignment, and altines with dark colored tails tend to have an evil alignment. good and neutral alignments are both fairly common, but evil alignments are rare. class doesn't influence alignment. you can view a detailed explanation of each alignment here.
