xFrom stars was he born, with such shimmer and shine
Did the joker make his way
With his coat spotted white,
O my what a sight
Had he arrived on that fateful day
To himself did he say, “Home this will be”
And roots did he lay down
Bringing Flitz together
No matter the weather
But they were not the only ones around
For here did giants rumble and loom
And stake claim to the land before us
"To live is to serve"
They had quite the nerve
But surrender to them we must
Long would we labor, we toiled unpaid
If only to save our skin
But the jester had pride
Why should they abide!?
To these warthog’s every whim?
For moons did he watch, and listen and wait
Until the hopeless did leave him be
But the jester was clever
Though boast would he never
And at last, a weakness did he see!
Giants had strength and size to their cause
But lacking, were they, in brains
They did fear the night and her beasts
So he quickly arranged that their feast
Had something special to add in their veins
Their cups were filled with ale and rich wines
So easily were their masters to sway
An unholy song did we sing
Giants had never heard such a thing
And we pillaged in shadow and gray
O how we cackled and snapped
Ravaging without remission
But it was the joker who stuck fear
With shadows to grip and tear
Breaking the chains to our submission
Upon the giants he descended, a terrifying star
Bringing nightmares and tricks into the fray
The giants did flee
At last were we free
And ever we strive to stay

──────────────────────────────────────────────── ⊱The old rhyme has changed from it’s initial writing but it’s message
has not become quite so hazy. The verses tell of the first Flit, the
forefather and his prodigy, when first they arrived and their dealings
with ‘Giants’. Time has exaggerated on their oppressors because these
so-called behemoth’s were actually early Man and their subsequent
feud with the Shadow Flitz whom they sought to tame. The Shadow
Flitz at large were not meant to be forced in such a way but in their
fear were reluctant to fight for their freedom. Their enslavement was
never documented quite so well but it is suspected that it lasted a
generation or more before the one called Joker devised a plan to free
them when he discovered Mankind’s fear of the dark and the Flitz strength
among it. They took up their shadows and struck fear in the hearts of man,
terrorizing their sleep with games and trickery. Such a tale is meant to
remind the current generations that they have more strength than they
should take for granted and that no enemy is without weakness, should
they need to defend themselves.
──────────────────────────────────────────────── ⊱What better pastime for a Flit than trickery? Joker was not born
with the name he bears now; having decided in his adulthood that he much preferred the
transparency of this new alias. It's a 'what you see, is what you get' sort of mentality, if
you can envision it. While the connotation of trickery lies heavily with negative amplifiers
like deceit and swindling, Joker does not see this to be the case. Most anything in the world
can fall into the spectrum of good or bad, a nuance the general public fails to take into
account. It's the meaning behind the trick - the intent, if you will - of the perpetrator, that
makes it what it is. In troubled times when the spirits of others are weak, battered or
despairing, laughter can offer a sort of emotional salve. He and his people have endured no
less than any other creature. They have been hungry and half-starved, feared and demonized,
berated and shackled for any supposed wrongdoing or hand in it, but even with all their
hardships he finds that offering a brief reprieve in the form of revelry is enough to keep many
willing to press on. His tricks are most effective on the young; anything from simple slight-of-
hand (or paw) to twinkling apparitions to dance playfully in the moonlight, he's more than
willing to expend his strength if only to give others a much deserved glimpse of happiness.
